Hello,
Can anyone tell me the origin of the expression "My love came tumbling down" and what it means?

I 'Googled' it, and it's a line in a few songs.
This one from Buddy Holly:
The whole world was my kingdom
and your love the gem in my crown.
Then I saw you glance at a new romance
and my love came tumbling down.

Perhaps the original source is Jack and Jill:Jack and Jill went up the hill,
To fetch a pail of water;
Jack fell down
And broke his crown,
And Jill came tumbling after.
Googling shows that Jack and Jill are used as metaphors in a million ways.
Or an alternative metaphor from the gospel song (as sung by Elvis):Joshua fit the battle of Jericho
Jericho Jericho
Joshua fit the battle of Jericho
And the walls come tumbling down
