View Full Version : Is a lemonade and vodka really just. . . a Lemonade and Vodka?

One of my favorite summertime cocktails is mix-it-yerself lemonade and vodka. We just had a conversation here at "work" and nobody knew if if had a cool name (e.g. vodka + oj = screwdriver) or not. A quickie web search has no other answers either.

If not, can we come up with a cool name for it?

I've heard it called Electric Lemonade myself.

I make it with 1 part orange vodka to 2 parts pink lemonade and call it a Pinko Commie myself.

Sounds like you're coming up just shy of a lemon drop (http://whatscookingamerica.net/Beverage/LemonDrop.htm) .

No further help here, but I always thought that the "electric" in electric drinks was acid, and not necessarily alcohol.
Me, I'll cast my vote for the fizzy-piss. For some reason, lemonade from the fountain has always smelled like urine to me anyway, even though it tastes pretty delicious if I don't sniff it first.

Use seltzer instead of plain water for the lemonade, add a cherry, and serve it in a tall 14-oz. glass, and it would be a Vodka Collins.

A screwdriver with lemonade instead of orange juice? Sounds like a "Phillips-head Screwdriver" to me.

"Electric Kool-Aid" is Kool-Aid with acid (LSD), but "Electric Lemonade" is any of a family of drinks, usually incorporating vodka and some citrus flavor. The version I make (aka "The Blue Drink") is 4 parts vodka, 2 parts sour mix, 1 part blue curacao, and lemon-lime soda to taste. With Mountain Dew instead of a clear soda, the drink gains a serious caffeine content and turns a disturbingly vivid shade of green.

smoke's version of a lemon drop seems far more complex than what I'be experienced---I've always done it with lemonade, vodka, and ice. Chuck it in a blender for a bit until it's a Slurpee-like consistency and you're good to go.

Perhaps you could just call it a Lemon Screwdriver?

Some suggestions:

Screwy Lemon

Lemon Driver (or, if you make it a shot, it could be a Lemon Minnie Driver. I kill me.)

Whatever the name, it sounds tasty. I'll have to try one later.

I always thought a lemon drop was (lick the sugar) + (vodka shot) + (suck the lemon), a variation on the tequila deal.

I think Lemon Driver would imply Lemonade + OJ + Vodka, which actually isn't too bad.

Sour Power?

Right. So why not call the OP's cocktail a "Lazy Lemon Drop"?

It's not the official drink for the name, but a container of frozen concentrate lemon juice, three beer, and a 26oz bottle of vodka make, what I call, a Porch Climber.

The only time I had this drink it was made with pink lemonade, and I was told it was a Pink Panty Pulldown.

I've always referred to it as Lightning Lemonade, and I picked up the term from my brother.

A bar I occasionally go to refers to a screwdriver as lemonade or OJ and vodka. They specifically ask if you want it with lemonade or OJ.

YMMV

Lemonade and vodka was the first mixed drink I ever had, when I was about 16, and I was told it was called a Frog. Why it would be called that, I have no idea.

We do this, no cherry though, and we call it a Vodka Spritzer.

That's me-and-some-friends we, not me-and-the-mouse-in-my-pocket we.

That actually rings a bell, now that you mention it.

I do like Pink Panty Pulldown though.
