View Full Version : What's the story on post count parties?

I'm one away from that magic "1000". Yay me

Anyway, I've sort of got the impression that marking this momentous event is now somewhat frowned upon. I know it was okay way back when I was a little newbie with a mere hundred to my name. What happened? Did the hamsters revolt?

I did try to search this, both here on this forum and as a general search, but I didn't come up with much. Nothing definative anyway.

So, what's the word? Does #1000 slip by with a wimper or can I toss up a firework or two?

I still see you as 999.

See UncleBeer's sticky (http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=231482) atop MPSIMS. Relevant quote:
What we're trying to do here...is reduce the reduce the fluff quotient. Post-count celebration threads (most of 'em anyway) are, in the view of the staff, the whipped topping on the marshmallow fluff. They're the fluffiest of the fluff.

Which is, in fact, one away from 1000, as she said. Then again I was never all that good at math.

My understanting is that post party threads are still frowned upon. I celebrated my 1000th post just by adding a brief mention of it at the end of the post, which was on some other topic.

I'm still waiting for my gold-plated membership card to arrive in the mail. Maybe it got lost.

So, I guess I'll "spend" it right here then!

It's been quite a ride. I've enjoyed it immensely.

Many times Dopers have made me laugh, cry and scream out loud. Sounds trite, doesn't it, but it's the truth. I'm gratefull to my "American Angel" for making it possible to hang around for another year, at least. Maybe I'll make my second grand by the end of it!

Bless you all - Dopers Rock!
