View Full Version : Songs That Remind You of Dopers, or vice versa

This thread is brought to you by the hit song, "Story of a Girl" which has been on heavy rotation on most kinds of rock stations these days, so the damned thing's going through my head far too much of the time.
To compound the effect, one of our posters uses the handle 'A girl', so naturally, whenever I see her on a thread, guess what song gets stuck in my head. And it goes both ways now - when I hear the song, I wonder if our epynomous (sp?) poster 'cried a river and drowned the whole world', and so forth.
Biggirl, for me, brings to mind Frankie Valli's "Big Girls Don't Cry". I don't know if she does or not; I've never met her, though I'd like to.
We've got posters who took their screen names from songs, e.g. SmoothOperator (Sade), jane_says (Jane's Addiction), ThisYearsGirl (Elvis Costello). In those cases, the connection is pretty obvious. There are probably more such posters, but I can't think of them right now.
So, any other posters whose names are connected with songs in your mind, and what's the connection? Are any posters themselves connected with songs for you, aside from their names, and why? (Let's keep couples out of this; that's a whole 'nother thing. I expect most of us have songs that remind us of our special someone.)

The Four Seasons and Donny Osmond did a song called "C'Mon, Marianne". I know the lyrics by heart because people always sang it to me when Donny came out with his version.
"oh, here I am, on my knees again, I'll do anything just to make it right. Say you understand, oh I know you can, c'mon Marianne..." Everybody join in!

I can never read a post by RTFirefly without muttering "hail, hail, Freedonia . . ."
It's not a song, but posts by ChiefScott often make the "Mousketeer roll call" scene from Rocky Horror go through my head ("Janet!" "Dr. Scott!")
voguevixen makes me think of Madonna (and then I get this funny feeling all over . . .)
UncleBeer, god help me, brings to mind "Uncle F*cker" from South Park:BLU
And I won't comment on the number of posts that reming me of Shari Lewis songs . . .

My name is actually Cheri, and all of my life I have been serenaded by the Four Seasons song "Sherry."
From Stevie Wonder fans I get "My Cherie Amour."
Both good songs, but I always wonder if the singer really thinks he is the very first man to think of this?
Oh well, I guess it beats getting "If You Wanna Be Happy For the Rest of Your Life, Take an Ugly Woman to be Your Wife."
I've never heard that one, thank you God!
