View Full Version : What would make a good food/dining cartoon? I need ideas.
I got the grand job of making the "filler" cartoon for my neighborhood weekly (it only rates bottom-inside-margin position).
Pay? Not a cent above my regular pay for classified ad phone-in data-entry.
But I like to draw so I volenteered. I had 5 ideas and used them all. Help!
Ideas don't have to be great. My first: A billboard for the isolated diner in the desert background: "Wilma's Cafe - validated parking"

A couple in the sidewalk section of a cafe.
Obviously nude but descretely masked by other people/ferns/etc.
The waiter is scowling.
The man points to the sign saying "Then what does it mean?"
The sign reads Alfresco Dining.

In the grocery
Loaf of bread: "Boy, that was quick! And they didn't even have a going away party"
Other loaf, on the "Day Old" shelf : "Good luck kid! You may need it."

A priest a rabbi and a policeman come into a bar.

That's almost a joke, actually.
You need 3 people associated with food.
How about a fisherman?
Then the cop orders fish & chips
The fisherman orders a kosher pickle
And the Rabbi orders donuts.
Or, mix in some other people with food cliches.

You might try the half-jokes you see in New Yorker.
Like a bear asking the grocer for nuts and berries.
Or a clown with curly hair buying an identically-shaped broccoli.

Will they look like Slug's drawings?
Or can't you draw people well?
(I'm not sure Slug can draw like Slug. Every picture seems stranger than the last.)
HELP! I need ideas!
It sounded so easy, but now I'm blanking totally. (boo hoo hoo...sniff)
