As I was watching the news last night, something caught my interest. It seems the Army is planning an involuntary Call-Up (http://www.whotv.com/Global/story.asp?S=1978717&nav=LotCOIrA)

Later today, the Army will officially announce this involuntary recall. The Army has about 117 thousand people in the Individual Ready Reserve. This recall will involve 56 hundred of those retired or discharged soldiers. This call-up will pinpoint people with certain skills that are in high demand like medical specialists and engineers. If things go according to plan, the soldiers will get 30 days notice before they're assigned to Army Reserve units deployed to help in Iraq and Afghanistan

I have two thoughts on this. My first thought is Thank Og stormchaser’s time is up! and my second thought was how many veterans are in support of this.

What do you guys think?

This option is apparently in the contract they willingly signed, so I can't get too worked up.

It is clearly stated that everyone in the military signs up for an eight year commitment. The commitment can be fulfilled in any combination of active, reserve, National Guard or IRR time. This combination is in the enlistment contract. Anyone who was in for over 8 years enters the IRR voluntarily. In other words there is no draft so they all know the possibilities for activation are there. If you want to look at a real call up of the ready reserve look at the Korean War. I don't have the numbers but they called up a ton of WWII vets to fight in Korea.

It will probably allow them to nullify the stop loss program .

I have heard a lot of outcry about this, but if you join the military, you know what you are getting into. I feel the same way about this as I feel about calling up Reserves.

You signed on for it, and Godspeed.
