"Rawhide" written by Ned Washington and Dmitri Tiomkin. Sung by Frankie Laine.

"Complete Directory of Prime Time Network and Cable TV shows" by Brooks and Marsh.

It's a book. It has paper and all that stuff in it.

...words & Music by Dimitri Piomkin

I did an Excite (www.excite.com) search and that was in the description of the first site listed. Interestingly enough, the site itself does not exist.

Wow, someone still uses those paper-filled thingies!!!

But seriously, thanks Bob (even though you just cost me ten bucks on a bet as to which research method would succesfully be used first).

www.allmusic.com

a) a buddy of mine works for them
b) They really do rule for any and all recorded music type questions
c) I don't know why more dopers don't go here first before asking music questions.

My answer had the correct spelling of Dmitri Tiomkin. :)

However, I also was pretty sure who wrote the song anyway, as I have it on a CD.

I used The Internet Movie Database (http://us.imdb.com) and looked up the title Rawhide. After getting past the movies, I clicked on the TV show by that name (TV shows on IMDb are listed in quotes). On the left side menu, I clicked on "full cast and crew". Scrolling down to the "Original Music" section, there are 8 composers. Dimitri Tiomkin has "(theme)" after his name.

BTW, Mr. Tiomkin has almost 150 movies and TV shows to his credit for composing music. He was nominated for 23 Oscars, 3 of which he won. He also won 5 Golden Globes.

Dmitri Tiomkin also wrote the theme to "High Noon". He was a prolific composer. If there's a really good theme from a Western, he probably wrote it.
