I've taken the leap and am making my first real foray into the world of computer music ... my only previous experience is pokin' and peekin' some sounds on my Commodore 64, but that's it.
I just bought iLife for myself and am starting to use Garageband. I got the package secondhand from a friend who didn't really care for it. Problem is he can't find the manual. So I'm fumbling around with Garageband, and managed to make a crappy 30-second song with a couple of the Apple loops. I've never used a music program before, so this is all new to me.
So on to the question - I downloaded a few samples, but when I try to import them into Garageband, it says that only Apple Loop format files will be visible in the browser window. So I'm stumped. How do I go about inserting one of these samples into a track in my song? Pressing record and then playing the sample so my external mic could catch it worked, but the sound quality seems like it's coming out of a can that way.
BTW, I'm running an iMac G4, OS 10.2.8, if that helps with any solutions.
Any help is appreciated.
