Zippo Lighters

I have heard that the hash marks on the bottom of a Zippo lighter have a meaning. The more hash marks, the better the lighter. Whats the deal?

Zippo (http://www.zippo.com/) says that the markings on the bottom of their lighter cases are for identification purposes. It's some sort of code which tells them what month & year that particular lighter was made.

It's a date code. They used slashes from the mid-60's through the mid-80's.
