100?

Anyway, I wouldn't call even half of those movies "chick flicks." Most of them have a woman as the main character but to me the term chick flick has a connotation of fluff, and there's a lot of serious/"deep" movies on there. Though I have to say that most of those movies were pretty boring to me.

Meh, Oprah.

Glad to see The Virgin Suicides on there. I always thought this haunting movie was underrated. Have not seen every last film on the list, but watched a good many of them.
Never cared for either the book or the movie of Bridget Jones. Couldn't stand the way she obsessed over her weight.
Pretty Woman is probably a bit suspect as well, but I thought Julia Roberts pulled it off.
I own both Armstrong's Little Women as well as Ang Lee's Sense and Sensibility.
I watch them two or three times a year. Love 'em. I think they illustrate the agony and the ecstasy of being female. Good cinematography too.

Where is An Affair to Remember? Come to that, where is Sleepless in Seattle?

I discount the list all-together since it does not include Beaches or Waiting To Exhale.

And tell me how in the world Romy and Michele's High School Reunion beats out The Color Purple???

Desperately Seeking Susan andRomy & Michelle's Reunion in the top ten is just a travesty.

What? No Dangerous Beauty (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118892/)? Or Valmont (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098575/)? Or Elizabeth (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0127536/)?

Harumph. Where are my corset movies?

And..uh...Aliens? How the heck is that a chick-flick? Don't give me "empowered woman" crap, Alien (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078748/) was much better for that - until the underwear scene, of course.

Am I the only one whooshed by The English Patient? Gawd, I thought the agony would never end. The movie, that is, not his agony. Die, already! It's on so many "best" lists, I'm certain I'm just missing something, and I've even tried it several times. But it's not getting any better.

Agree that Elizabeth is a most excellent film and I own that one too.
I much preferred the movie version of The English Patient to the novel.
It was a pretty darn good chick movie. Visually it was gorgeous.
Seems like some folks disagree about what constitutes a proper chick flick.
I don't really have a chick-flick manifesto.
Myself,I like good dialogue and humor, I appreciate more than a few thought-provoking moments, and some sniffles are okay.

Yes, there are a few fluff pieces and that whore movie...

Yes, some more important and substantial films showcasing female talent or telling a women's story were left out...

At least all those weepy, overwrought, chewing on the scenery, showcase of 'hollywood actresses' movies were not included, like The Secret of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, and Steel Magnolias, anything with Cher...

There just seems to be no rhyme or reason to this list whatsoever. It seems like they would need to stretch a little bit to call some of these chick flicks. The Virgin Suicides is not exactly a chick flick. It's a good movie and there are in fact woman in it but a chick flick? I don't know. And Aliens? Why not just add Kill Bill to the list? There's a woman that kicks some ass in that movie. Amelie seems like it would actually be a perfect addition to the list and it isn't there.

I just don't get this list at all.

I was surprised to see Steel Magnolias and Fried Green Tomatoes off the list. When I think "ChickFlick" those are the first two to come to mind.

The Buy Family must be a total powerhouse in the directing world.
