Governor McGreevey resigned effective 11:59 AM Monday so why did state Senate President Richard Codey take the oath (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=519&ncid=519&e=1&u=/ap/20041115/ap_on_re_us/new_jersey_governor_11) on Sunday the day before he became Acting Governor?

The ceremony was done privately; the news says it was because he didn't think it was appropriate to have a full-blown ceremony, considering the circumstances of Gov. McGreevey's departure. Doing it a day early jumps the gun very effectively and removes the story from the media.
As opposed to contestants on reality shows, I think he's sort of an anti-fame-whore. I think the scuttlebutt is that this guy does not want to continue being governor after his 14 months are up.
