I friend of mine at work recently came to me and asked that I save all of the little alluminum pull tabs from my pop/beer cans ( and no I don't drink beer at work). He claimed that his child is collecting them for some chariy or another. I didn't pay much attention at this point because all I could think of is "here's another sucker taken in by an Urban Legend". Does ANYONE have any actual doccumentation of any organization that actually takes these things??

When was the last time you saw a pull tab?

In addition to what Cecil originally said...
Those Ronald MacDonald houses in Minneapolis are still collecting them. There was a big deal in the Mall of America a year or two ago.

They have no particular value, and it is mainly an UL. But as UL sometimes come to life, some do accept them, at least for the value of the aluminum.

On the wall in the break room at my client site is a request for tabs on Ronald McDonald House stationery. One of the points they make is that the tabs are 100% aluminum while the cans are an alloy.
I have no idea how accurate that is. It appears, however, to be the assumption under which various RMcDH persons are operating.

The death of an urban legend.
We have an official Ronald McDonald House collection box here at work in Toledo, Ohio, too. I don't have any info on the aluminum content, nor does the Ronald McDonald House website, which isn't really unexpected. I wonder if any of the aluminum can manufacturers have more info.
