The son of a family acquaintence, beaten (http://www.nbc5i.com/news/3951511/detail.html) into unconsciousness while trying to give a friend who'd had too much to drink a ride home lost his battle (http://www.nbc5i.com/news/3964090/detail.html) in a Ft. Worth hospital yesterday. I believe he was thirty six.

I didn't know Kent personally but our mothers grew up together and still held small reunions where five or six of their schoolmates would retreat to a country home for a weekend. Mrs. Schnable lost her husband years ago and raised Kent and his brother and sister as a single parent. Mom said she'd had a very difficult life and it's just been made horribly worse by a senseless act of road rage.

Apparently he'd been trying to get off the freeway to avoid a car being driven agressively but was cut off on the exit ramp. Three males accosted him and although he knew self defense, it wasn't enough against a tire iron. The person he'd been driving home was apparently too drunk to remember much, providing only a very vague description.

To the men that did this, I hope you have a conscience and that at some point it catches up to you. I hope someday you deeply regret this senseless taking of a life and destroying those that knew and loved this person. There's not a reason in the world this needed to happen.

This just makes me sick. People who do this are sub human and I do hope they get caught. To think these people are still walking out there on our streets is horrible. To think these men could be fathers walking around with their sons today like nothing happened is vile.

My heart goes out to the victim's familly.

I found a bit more on the Star Telegram site...
The friend said that the pickup had earlier driven up behind Schnable's white Ford F150 and flashed its lights apparently in an attempt to get Schnable to move over from the left lane.
<snip>
The friend said that before Schnable could switch lanes, the pickup swerved past him in the middle lane and then passed several cars on the left shoulder.

The friend said he noticed that another white pickup then cut off the blue pickup. Investigators say it is possible that the driver of the blue pickup may have been targeting the driver of the white pickup that cut him off when he forced Schnable's truck off the roadway.It's possible he was the victim of a case of mistaken identity.

I remember Mom talking about his mother and what a fine person she was and how it broke her heart that she'd had to endure so much, although she didn't go into all the details. What this poor woman is feeling now, what with losing a son on Thanksgiving morn I simply can't imagine.

Kent's company has offered a large reward. Hopefully someone will remember something.

That's absolutely horrible and senseless. Why, oh why, do people have to behave like this?? :mad: Sometimes I hate parts of humanity so bad I can't hardly stand it. I hope karma gets them and they rot. Sigh.

And it seems worse when the tragedy is somehow closer to you. Ft. Worth doesn't feel that far after something like that and it's still two hours away. But my heart really goes out to the family. Can you imagine how difficult it's going to be for them now during the biggest holiday of the year? They'll be reminded of, even moreso than usual, everywhere they look and in every song they hear. Always connecting it to heartbreak. I wish them Godspeed and comfort where ever it may be foung. :( :(

I'm just going to post one more link, as it has some information not mentioned previously about Kent as a person and Amanda, (http://www.dfw.com/mld/startelegram/news/local/10276018.htm)a most undeserving widow.

Also, in the off chance any DFW Dopers who read this might have been on 1-30 or 1-35 and Rosedale between 2:00 and 3:00 Thanksgiving morning, please give this a look.
