Car handling

Its winter at the moment and the roads have huge puddles everywhere. By huge puddles I mean huge - abmout 3 metres long and 10-20 cm deep. I was talking to Mum and she said she has trouble keeping the car on the road. I don't have that problem. Mum has a front wheel drive and i have a rear wheel drive, so i was wondering if that has any effect on the handling. My car just slides round a bit when I hit a big puddle.
So - do front and rear wheel drives handle differently when driving through puddles?

My car is rear wheel, mid engine. It handles great in the rain. With the majority of the weight over the rear wheels it dosent slip very much. However, when it does let go, I might as well look in the rear view mirror to see where I am going. Mass in the back means when it lets go it wants to go is own way...

You might suggest she slow down a bit before reaching the puddle. Hitting a puddle 20cm deep at speed will make any car veer to the side.

It is great fun though.
