This was posted before by Ukulele Ike, but can't be found in the search lists.

We need this information on record, for legal reasons, in case of an IRS audit.

I started a MPSIMS thread last August entitled "What Color is Your Toothbrush?"

Cecil swooped in within minutes, and made it as the fifth response, just after Alphagene, manhattan, David B, and tomndebb.

His toothbrush, I seem to recall, is green.

Mine is a Braun automatic, white with teal racing stripes, and the teal band on the replacement head.

Soupy, mine is mostly white with some blue markings. By the way, I did a search on "Cecil Adams" and he only shown as posting in 37 threads and none of them have anything to do with toothbrushes in the subject line. Some of the threads date back as far as a year ago last April so I guess the thread Ike was talking about got lost somehow. Also I noticed that the last time Cecil posted was May 12th, which means this is the longest he has gone without posting since the inception of the message board. Maybe he will break his posting fast by updating us with his toothbrush color.

Mine is like a see-thru teal color, with white and blue bristles, medium grade.

Mine is clear with blue and green highlights. A simple, classic toothbrush.

Purple with a medium head and soft bristles and a blue toothpick nipple on the end. No racing stripes.

Mine's white with maroon stripes and some yellow bristles...one of the "the head bends in the middle!" ones. I'm such a marketing dupe.

Did the bend thing work? Seems smart on TV.

I've got an old ivory Waterpick electric toothbrush, with red, blue, yellow and green heads.

May have to give it up though. The refill heads are harder and harder to locate.

Pinky-red (kinda inbetween). It is really old and I should get a new one but I hate new toothbrushes.

My everyday one is half white and half dark blueish-green. My GI-Joe one is a pukey sort of green.

One is purple (grape) and the second one, (in the shower), is teal. They color coordinate well with the white Tom's of Main propolis and myrrh flavored tooth paste. (Tastes like chicken.)

The one in my earthquake/emergency over-night bag in the car is a middle-green I think. The one in my camp gear is cut in half. It was white. Now it's kinda fuzzy-green-yellow.

I get the totally plain, least expensive brush I can find. I can't see spending $3.50 or more for a plastic stick and a few bristles. And since when do we need to buy a new one every six months?! I bought the teal one yesterday for $1.99, I expect it'll last a year.

Just the thought of bendy brushes drive me nuts! How can one apply any force if the damn thing bends?! Are they designed for people who genuinely don't know their own strength?

How about a bendy fork?

And another thing: I use just a pea-sized dallop of paste instead of the incredibly generous portion they serve up in the ads.

Speaking of exaggeration in ads: did you know that it was an advertising copy writer who put the word "repeat" at the end of the instructions on a shampoo bottle and that it increased consuption (and thereby profits) by 30%!! They don't "repeat" at the beauty parlor do they?

And shave cream...oh, sorry, carried away again.

Mine's translucent aquamarine, but it's wearing out, and the one I have sitting in the box to eventually replace it is white with red highlites.

And judging from what little I know of Mr. Adams' sense of humor, he's just apt to show up in here anyway.

Funny to answer this question now since I just bought a black toothbrush for the first time ever. I didn't even know they made them in black. It's a standard/medium black 'brush with white trimming and the brand name "Dr. Best" on it. German model, btw, but not unusual since I bought it here (in Germany).

What the heck is up with teal toothbrushes??

The government is involved somehow.

Mine is an Oral B Cross Action baby. Teal and White handle with blue and green and white bristles. Medium.

I'd like to be alone with my toothbrush now....

::::::long nostalgic story told mostly for therapeutic purposes. So just skip to the end for the raw data if you're in a hurry::::

My toothbrush is red. Why, you may ask, is it red?

Well back in 1958 my mom decided to "color code" the kids because, among other reasons, she was sick of fights over who left the damp towel on the floor, etc. My older brother got blue (the bastard, it's my favorite color), I got red (it could be worse, I'm the only girl, what if it was pink?), and my two younger brothers got green and yellow. Dad and Mom were black and white and sometimes they switched back and forth.

We had color-coded bath towels, tooth brushes, drinking cups, lunch boxes, boots(!), bathrobes, sheets, pillow cases, slippers. Our sleeping bags were tagged. Our socks had little colored embroidery thread "x's" on them. We have pictures of us as properly colored ghosts on Halloween, and need I mention our Christmas stockings?

It was drilled into our heads. "Just look for your color, you'll know which is for you." Every single time I go to buy a toothbrush, I stand in front of the multi-colored array and stare at the choices. I pick up teal brushes. I look longingly at the racing stripes. And I walk away with a plain red toothbrush. And I wonder, am I incapable of change? Is it a psychosis? I don't even live in the same state as my brothers anymore. What would really happen if I bought a blue toothbrush? Would the sky fall?

But, dammit, it's tradition. And it makes me smile and remember how much I love my mom. And it stopped the fights. Well at least it changed them into "Hey somebody used my towel." And I'm proud of my color (even if it isn't blue). And my kids, naturally, have "their color"--"I'm blue, just like Uncle Scot." "Yeah, well, I have Uncle David's color and he says..." "Well, Mom says when I'm 10 I can change my color if I want to, but everyone knows green..."

Red. The color of the toothbrush which I hold in my hand is just plain red.

Myself - I've read the "pea-sized" advice a lot, and think it must be wrong. I use a gritty toothpaste (Crest with extra whitening), and if I start with pea-size the grit is gone before I get very far. The problem is the Laurel Sulfate that produces all the foam. They could drop foam and I wouldn't miss it.

You are right about the shampoo. Consumer reports did testing on "shampoo, rinse, repeat" and no one found any benefit at all.

I'd say that the string of replies is proof indeed that no topic is too dumb for this forum.

Not that I'm complaining. Oh, my toothbrush is a lovely red and white ergonomically-shaped beauty with a real rubber grip.

Uk,
Perhaps you have stumbled upon a question of great social import and simply fail to grok its significance.

Much money is spent on the study of the effects of color in everything from fashion to office decor to, well, toothbrushes.

Buy two saloons side by side; paint one a red and paint the other a soothing pastel yellow or light green. After a few months compare the amount of booze sold in each.

There's little wonder why your brush is "a lovely red and white ergonomically-shaped beauty with a real rubber grip."

Tsk, tsk...

(And just wait until you find out the TRUE significance of the color teal!)

My toothbrush is ordinary and clear blue.

Mom had the same rule for us. I was blue everything, my brother was red, and Sissy was green, or purple if she could get it. One year everything in her closet was purple, all her shoes, purses, and even doll's clothes.

Now of course, she's more mature and only wears "heather", which looks like dusty purple.

I'm sure I saw that Cecil answer too, probably when he was preoccupied with world hunger or flatulance.

Maybe Ukulele Ike was told it had to be removed for giving away some of Cecil's secrets. He is a private man after all.

Oh, and mine is not important. I'm sure it has a color, but I never choose it. My dentist's assistant does.

I have a special "senior" one with both a clapper to turn it on, and a button to yell "I've fallen and I can't get up!"

My toothbrush is purple when I can get it, otherwise, I'll go for the most brightest, jadest, shiniest, most obnoxiosest green I can find. I'd love to have a black toothbrush, but that seems like such a strong statement to make . . . :)

I have noticed that as I get on in years, I'm more and more attracted to the high tech toothbrushes. I hate new toothbrushes, also, so maybe part of my brain is trying to compensate by starting out with the one that has the most bells and whistles.

I like to have clear or clear glittery toothbrushes most of the time, but other than that, I really don't care what my toothbrush looks like. I prefer regular bristles and a regular head. Rubber grips or strips are nice also.

Mine has a metal handle, but I hate it because it's cold to the touch. But it came as part of a gift set from one of my brothers with some other brushes, so I have to use it for a while.

Mine is blue at the moment.
Usually it's green, but when we were away on business
last week the person who was staying at our apartment
cat-sitting for us accidentally dropped mine somewhere
icky while getting out the toothpaste, so he was
kind enough to replace it before we returned.
I'm willing to forgive him his taste in colors! ;)

I used to not care what color my toothbrush was but since I redecorated my bathroom I am compelled to match. And the color I need? Grey. Do you know how hard it is to find a grey toothbrush? Or rather, a grey toothbrush that I like? I found one kind I liked but when I found it at the store I didn't want to buy more than one in case it was a crappy brush. It was fine, but when I went looking for more, I couldn't find any grey ones. Teal, purple, olive green, you name it, but not grey. My life is so hard...

Transluscent grey, with my dentist's name imprinted in gold on the handle, small head Oral-B soft. I get a new one every six months, but usually buy one at three months. The last one I bought had a handle (ergo schmergo!) that was too fat to fit in the toothbrush holder by the sink. I knocked it into the toilet accidentally, fished it out, briefly considered microwaving the badness away, and pitched it. It was a teal and white colgate with bumps.

I have a SonicCare so most of its white by default. My brush has a light blue band on it.

FWIW, I like the SonicCare even if it does feel weird the first couple of times.

Last time my SO purchased the new toothbrushes (is that right?) he got two identical green ones. It drove me crazy for several months. I could never be 100% sure that I was using my brush and he was using his brush.

Last month I purchased two new toothbrushes. Mine is pink and his is blue. I was feeling cutesy. Besides, I don't like anyone touching my toothbrush and I figure he wouldn't pick up the pink one. It isn't manly.

i like my teeth when they're white and clean -
my brush is the color of a tangerine.
because the store i shop at's small,
it doesn't bend or twist at all,
just a stick of plastic with a bristly end -
my toothbrush is my teeth's best friend.

I used to have a wooden toothbrush, I think I got it at some discount-o-rama store. I tossed it in the compost when it was worn out; it was pretty cool.

Right now I'm into The Preserve Toothbrush (http://www.recycline.com/). You send it back to the company when you're finished with it and they recycle the materials it to make plastic lumber. The one I'm using now it red, but coincidentally I just bought a new one today. It is happy, happy sunshiny yellow.

I decided to go out on a limb and bought an electric one. It's one of the cheap $5 ones you get at Wal-Mart cuz I couldn't see spending more unless I loved it which it turns out I do. I bought a green one but my husband used it and he really slobbers all over his toothbrush so I went and got myself a reddish pink one.

My "home" toothbrush is a Reach, white on the ends with purple handgrippy thing.

My "away" toothbrush, the one that I keep in my travel bag at all times, is teal.

My NEW toothbrush, which I only just bought, although I don't need it (both my Home and Away brushes are almost brand-new), is Player's Racing Blue. As a matter of fact, that's the only reason I bought the damn thing. I can't NOT buy anything in Player's Racing Blue.
