OK, we just had the thread (http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=297673&page=1&pp=50) where a whole bunch o'female Dopers came out of the closet and admitted finding guy-on-guy action hot. And that they liked slash fiction. (for the uneducated, it's fanfiction written about tv, movie, or literary characters pairing members of the same sex) So, slash fans out there, what are your favorite pairings? And do you actually wirte in your fandom or just read in it? We've got a diverse group of people on this board and I'm interested in what y'all are up to.

(and, if you're totallly disgusted by this topic, feel free to go get yer rant on in the Pit, just don't crap in the thread)

Anyway, here're mine (I wish I could write, but I suck):

Current:
Star Gate: Jack/Daniel
Stargate Atlantis: John/Rodney

Anime:
Gundam Wing: any but especially Heero/Trowa & Heero/Wufei
YuYu Hakusho: Hiei/Kurama
DC Comics: Flash/Green Lantern
Trigun: Vash/Wolfwood

Past favorites:
Smallville: Clark/Lex
Voyager: Paris/Chakotay
Highlander: Duncan/Methos
SportsNight: Dan/Casey

Old school:
STOS: Kirk/Spock (the granddaddy of slash pairings)
Starsky&Hutch
Dukes of Hazzard: Bo/Luke

(man, that's more than I thought there'd be...)

I'm fairly limited in my slash fandom. The only ones I read are generally BtVS slash: Buffy/Faith, Buffy/Willow, Anya/Buffy, Cordy/Anybody... :D

I am quite limited as well.

Aragorn/Legolas.

Kirk/Spock.

Various pairings of elves, it just seems to work well.

Ranma/Ryoga (for some reason I'm more embarased over this one than all the rest).

And I read mostly, but have scratched out the occasional story (both slash and regular erotica). No one has ever read my stories, though, other than myself.

Voyager: Paris/Chakotay

I can't even articulate how disturbing that is. At least it wasn't Tuvok/Neelix though.

I wrote Garak/Bashir for years, and if I'm "famous" as a slash writer, it's for that.

When I was into DS9 fanfic, I also wrote a little O'Brien/Bashir (mostly involving Garak and O'Brien fighting over the adorable doctor), and a series of Sisko/Bashir stories where they were stuck in 21st-century San Francisco.

For the last two years, I have had a serious hobbit fetish, and have taken to writing Frodo/Sam (with some Merry/Pippin as a side-pairing).

Fandoms I have liked reading, but never wrote in:

Q/Picard
Mulder/Krychek
D'Argo/Crichton

But I'll look at anything if the character pairing interests me.

Anaamika
01-21-2005, 03:13 PM
The hobbit thing doesn't do anything for me. (Sorry, Miss Mapp).

But I forgot about Faramir/Aragorn or Faramir/Legolas.

I guess most of mine are from LOTR, huh? When I go home I'll think and see if there are any more.

I'm fond of Jack Sparrow/ Will Turner, which isn't much of a stretch, really.

And I have several Buffy pairings I'm fond of, especially Angel/xander, Spike/xander, and Spike/angel. So I'm twisted- I can live with that.

No, it's not. :)

When writing a story, I can sometimes actually stay pretty close to the book or film, and then just slip in a little of 'what we didn't see at the end of that scene.'

And I've always said that the scene in the Tower of Cirith Ungol is already a perfect little piece of hurt/comfort without any additional help.

Whaddaya mean, Hiei/Kurama's not canon?

I'm one of nature's slashers (I decided there was something going on between Zhane and Andros on Power Rangers, for crying out loud, and this was when I was twelve), so listing my pairings would take...quite a while.

In Star Wars (EU here):
Face Loran/Ton Phanan I recently re-read those books after about five years, and was a little surprised to find the homosexual relationship I remembered between those two didn't actually happen. And it can't have been fanfic because a) If it's out there, it's hiding from me; and b) I didn't have internet when I first read those books. The subtext is just that strong.

Are you allowed to link to that?

But I know, and it's with Snape most often. Isn't this more or less childporn? I mean, Harry (not the actor) only just turned 14, didn't he? A bit young for me. (To be honest I normally like older guys anyway.

I can't believe I'm posting this but:

Due South, Ray Kowalski/Benton Fraser. I do like some Vecchio/Fraser, but Kowalski (who's actor recently appered in the Battlestar Galactica miniseries) just goes with Fraser in a Hoyay way that Vecchio, well, doesn't. Vecchio's just too straight.

And even though I've never even seen one entire episode of the actual series, The Sentinel, Jim Ellison/Blair Sandburg.

I've never written slash, and I barely read it anymore, but I used to be really big on slash when I first discovered it in the early college years.

Luna Child

Mmmm, slash.

On the subject of Harry Potter slash: there's a -heck- of a lot of it out there. And it makes me happy. Far less Buffy slash than there is HP. It out-fics any other fanom I've explored. most authors go out of their way to make it future-fic so it's not(mostly) child porn. Chanslash, on the other hand, is its own genre and generally gets really huge warnings smacked all over it.

On the subject of 'Dear Og, there's salsh fanfiction for -this-?': there is Bible slash. I've read some, didn't like it, thought it was weird as all heck. Know someone who writes it, though. She doesn't really take it seriously.

Anyway, favorite pairings...

HP:
Snape/anyone, really, though Lupin tends to be best
and everything else kinda comes in second, with the exception of anything invovling Ron, because I like Ron the way he is in canon, and authors change him too much.

BtVS: Spike/Xander. Hands down favorite. (anyone got any links to reccomend?)
and Spike/anyone else next, then Angel/anyone else.

Smallville: Clark/Lex, because there almost is no other pairing.

Hmm...I read a bit of Boondocks Saints slash, but exhausted that fandom pretty quickly.

So, yeah. I like slash, yes I do.

The definition of slash is a pairing of two males who are straight, usually in pop culture.

If they are already gay, it's gay erotica.

Funny, I was under the impression that the word "slash" referred to the slash mark used to name the particular coupling contained in the story, i.e. Kirk/Spock. That many of the earliest stories along these lines happened to be of a homosexual bent was, I thought, due to the fact that the original Star Trek had a mostly male cast and may have been the first (or one of the first) series to inspire widely-distributed amateur fiction through fanzines and whatnot. Had the genders on the show been more balanced, I've no doubt every possible pairing* would be covered and a distinction would have to be made between "gay slash" and "straight slash", if one cared to do so.

Oh, well...

*As well as numerous threesomes, I expect

I think we are both right, in a way. Slash does refer to the slash mark, but slash generally means male-male. It would never occur to me to write a het or lesbian story about two famous actors and call it slash.

VampyChick
01-21-2005, 08:32 PM
The original definition covered both orientations, but it's changed. Words change to fit what people think they mean, and these days general consensus is, slash means gay, het means straight. I had a whole poll about this on my LJ some time last year.

Anaamika , what kind of slash d'you want? As in, for what, what pairings, etc....I may have some, or could find some for ya.

And yeah, BDS is twincest, but a friend of mine had already introduced me to Weasleycest, so it wasn't really an issue by then. Comparatively, I'm not easily squicked. I like all the participants to be human, and of age, but cant think of much else I'm all that picky about. Oh, yeah, has to be decently well written. Crap slash really just isn't worth it.

There was one slash a friend of mine (I belong to a SW fan fiction e-mail group) wrote, where Wedge Antilles goes back in time and hooks up with a young Obi-Wan Kenobi. It was hot, but all I could think of was that Denis Lawson, who played Wedge, is Ewan McGregor's uncle, and I couldn't get through it.

Other slash I enjoy:

Harry Potter: Sirius/Remus, mostly. it's practically canon :)

FAKE (a manga series I really like): JJ/Drake and, to a lesser degree, Dee/Ryo (Dee/Ryo are the canon couple, so I don't really need fanfic of them as much, but JJ/Drake is just hinted at/suggested, so I'm all into seeing how people bring them together, since Drake thinks he's straight (poor deluded boy...:))

David/Jonathon? Not much of a stretch there, really.

But when you get to Jesus and the "Beloved" Disciple, you're really skirting the boundaries . . . ;)

In 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, told in the first person by Professor Arronax, there was an unmistakable gay subtext to the way he talked about his dear friend Ned Land. Especially when he spoke of Land using the harpoon, "a deadly weapon in his hands." And they spent more than a year together on that guys-only Navy ship looking for the sea monster . . .

How about Brideshead Revisited? Sebastian/Charles! Oh, wait . . .

How could I forget Cyborg/Beastboy?

"I can't believe Terra's gone!" tears covered his green cheeks.

"Cheer up, pal. I'm your best bud. What could you do with her ya can't do with me?"

"Share a soda."

"We can do that." said Cyborg as he produced an ice cream float from nowhere, and inserted two straws.

"Go to the fair."

"We can do that." said Cyborg as he produced a bag of roasted peanuts, and some cotton candy.

"Hold hands."

"We can do that." said Cyborg as he took Garth's green hand in his own.

"French kiss."

"We can do that." said cyborg as he pressed his lips to Garth's. At first, he struggled. But, as Vic's practiced tongue explored his mouth, Garth surrendered himself to pleasure. He began fighting, not to escape, but to give Cyborg pleasure equal to his own.

When Cyborg finally released him, Garth could only stare into space and drool in mindless bliss. He heard only the wild beating of his own heart, and the voice of his new lover shouting "Booyah!"

BB's 'Gar', short for Garfield. Garth is Aqualad/Tempest.

But, a while back, I (almost) wrote a 'Titans Go Gay' story (using the TV cast)...I planned out the pairings and the sex scenes, never got around to writing the story...

Star/Raven (of course), BB/Cy (Belching as foreplay!), and Robin/Aqualad (since Speedy hadn't been introduced when I came up with this...I'd pair him with Speedy, now.)

Now I need to get on that, again...

To the OP...since you mentioned Gundam Wing, my favouite pairing is the hardest in the world to find, far as I can tell - DuoXQuatre. I don't like Trowa, at all, so the 3X4 does nothing for me, and HeeroXDuo is...well, it's an OK pairing, but not as much sheer pretty as DuoXQuatre - who happen to by my favourite characters outside that context, as well.

The strangest thing I ever saw was probably Colonel Sanders x Ronald McDonald. It was japanese of course.

I'm not a big fan of slash as much as I am a fan of boy's love, but there are some slash stories that really catch my eye. The slash things I like, however, are things that squick a lot of people out. D: I don't find them sexy in real life, mind you, but in the fantasy setting, they are incredibly hot. That being said, I do enjoy a good Snape/Harry fanfic.

I was a huge gundam wing fan, mostly 1x2 and 3x4. Batman x Robin is awesome for me too and I once read a most delicious Sabertooth x Wolverine that later turned into a Wolverine x Gambit. ::fans self at memory::

Could we mention the authors and titles here so people can google if they so desire? :)

Once upon a time, I was involved in a scavenger hunt at my college. One of the items on our list was "Ronald McDonald/Hamburglar". My group, like so many others, tried submitting pictures, but no, said the committee, the item isn't "pictures of Ronald slash Hamburglar", it's "Ronald slash Hamburglar".

So one group wrote some "Ronald slash Hamburglar...slash". I don't know if they got points for it, but they did get to read it in front of the other teams at the end of the evening. I only remember a few snatches: "meat between your buns" jokes, allusions to Ronald's big feet, &c. It's probably still on-line someplace.

Hey Anaamika, my favorite Kirk/Spock writer is jat_sapphire (http://www.geocities.com/jat_sapphire/tosfic.htm). She also does the only good Starsky&Hutch slash I've ever read.

For just general browsing, the SlashPageDatabaseProject (http://www.squidge.org/~minotaur/5data.html) is interesting. Some of the links are old but people are still adding to it despite the unupdated appearance. There's also fanfiction.net but they purged all teh NC-17 fics and the site has a ton of really irritating pop-ups.

When I'm looking for good fics in a fandom, I usually search for "fandom" "slash" and "recs" or "recommendations" and usually find some decent stuff.

Ozymandias/The Comedian

Bah.

Doctor Manhattan/Doctor Manhattan

Did he really keep Lori around just to satisfy his sexual needs? Perhaps, if he could find a way to satisfy those needs without her . . . Yes. If he could find sex somewhere else, and he still wanted Lori, then he would know.

There was the faintest shift in the air. A second Doctor Manhattan stood beside him. He divided his consciousness. It would be no use being two bodies if he still had one mind.

"Let us begin." he said to himself.

I'm a femmeslasher of minor repute, but I will confess here that I'm a closet McKay/Sheppard 'shipper.

John/John was very popular before the elections. I've made icons for Jon Stewart/Stephen Colbert.

Yes, I'm a bad, bad person.

Wesley Crusher and Worf. Just because I do not like Wesley.

Eww. I can see the logic, but I hate Wesley. Just...ew.

Horatio Hornblower: Horatio/Archie (*the* OTP).

Who is Archie?

It would be Hornblower/Bush, wouldn't it?
"Damn you impertinence, Mr. Bush, I didn't join the King's Navy to..."
I'm not gonna go there.

[QUOTE=carnivorousplant]Who is Archie?

[QUOTE]

Archie is Mr. Kennedy. He was a midshipman with Horatio aboard the Justinian. He had epilepsy, and went floating off in an untended boat during a raid on a French ship, and was in a Spanish prison for awhile, until Horatio also turned up there and they escaped. He's also the one who lied and said he pushed crazy Capt. Sawyer into the hold when, actually... Horatio did it (In the TV version at least. In the book, I believe it's more ambiguous).

I haven't watched those DVDs in awhile. Since I'm not going anywhere today, I think I'll spend the afternoon with the Royal Navy. :)

I don't do slash, only yaoi.

But in that, I'm fairly obscure with my pairings. 13x6, Shido/Cain, Zagato/Innouva, Berkeley Rose/Ryo, 3x8, 5x8, Jecht/Auron/Braska...and the list goes on. ;) I'm a lot more selective with fan fiction now than I was a few years ago. My expectations have skyrocketed, and I can't find the fics to keep up.

Is there a special term for crossover slash? Because I once read this great story about Sydney Bristow from Alias meeting Max Guevera from Dark Angel. For bonus trivia it had the first reference to the 9/11 bombing I saw in a piece of fiction.

I also remember another great story which had Dana Scully and Clarice Starling assigned to a case together.

Too many fandoms to count, ranging from Andromeda to Yu Yu Hakusho. But this was mostly collected when I was at uni and actually had time to have a life. :(

Some pairings that I've liked --

Highlander: Duncan/Methos
Tolkien: Men and Elves
X-Files: Krycek/anyone, usually Mulder
HP: Snape/anyone
Marvel: Rictor/Shatterstar
Vagrant Story: Ashley/Sydney
Due South: Fraser/Kowalski

Sakura/Tomoyo
Tai/Matt
Heero/Duo
Haruka/Michiru and, or anyone female
Miyuki-chan/reviewers admitting she's gay.
Kaworu/Shinji

I'll remeber more after I have logged off, I'm sure.

On the subject of 'Dear Og, there's salsh fanfiction for -this-?': there is Bible slash. I've read some, didn't like it, thought it was weird as all heck. Know someone who writes it, though. She doesn't really take it seriously.

I knew there was subtext in that kiss at Gethsemane...

This isn't the first thread about slash, but I can't find the one in which one Doper presented part of a slash story they had written. It was Rhett Butler and Ashley Wilkes, and the part we got to see was pretty good. It wasn't the sex scenes, it was a conversation between the two afterwards.

I recently re-read those books after about five years, and was a little surprised to find the homosexual relationship I remembered between those two didn't actually happen.

I seem to have missed this first time I read this thread...

I had the same revelation a little while back, concerning Fire and Ice from Justice League International.

I'm still not 100% convinced they didn't have one.
