I thought "Don't make prank 911 calls" was something so ingrained that the only pathological people and very immature kids would do it. Either there are a lot of twisted people out there, or it's not the 11th commandment I thought it was.

Now, I'm with you on the problem, it's a MAJOR thing, it happens even more than it's reported, but as an investigation that I personally conducted (on a very small scale) revealed, it's not always pranksters that are on the other end.

In this case, yeah, but not always. Chicago is just one of the first to do something about the crank callers.

Unfortunately, there are some things that are unavoidable when it comes to cell phones, and what many people DON'T realize is that a cell phone that you no longer use, and has been deactivated, can STILL dial 911. So if you think it's cute lil junior can pretend to dial a call on your old cell phone, you better make sure there's no power in the battery.

those whose phones have been used to make at least 50 bogus calls over the last six months -- warning them to "cease and desist" immediately.
Why are they giving these morons 50 chances? Has any normal person ever had to call 911 50 times? If you're the caregiver to a person who's prone to life-threatening episodes, you still wouldn't call 50 times in 6 months. That's more than once in 4th days!
In NYC, I believe it's illegal to pull the handle on a fire call-box just once. Why would they even consider a warning letter and all that?
