I have been to several different sites to see if the Sims 2 University has been released yet. I know it's technical release date is Monday, but I'm hoping someone'll put it out in the store early. I'm dying to play it this weekend, and I don't want to wait until Monday!
Tell me I'm not the only one waiting impatiently for this to arrive!

Can't report your own posts, so the thing here would've been to click on Bosda's post, and copy & paste the URL to the thread (not sure if reporting the post returns the thread or the post. Mods?)

If you really can't wait until Monday I've got a couple of smuggled Betas of future Sims releases that might help give you a fix. These are really immersive and require more skill and dexterity than the previous games. You'd have to come here and play them, we can't risk them spreading on the web yet. Read the descriptions and let me know if your interested.
Sims 2- Clean My House
This is the most realistic simulation ever created, you'll think you're actually doing housework. This game even contains the "Laundry" download and the "Dog Puke on the Carpet" minigame.
Sims 2- Yardwork
The outdoor companion to the previous release, you'll swear you can feel the dirt under your fingernails.
Not interested? Ah well. Good luck in finding your real fix early, I'm going to spend my weekend with my beta versions.

Actually, I get plenty of 'Cat Puke on the Carpet and In My Shoes', and 'Dammit, honey! Didn't You See the Cat Dragging His Ass On the Carpet?" at home:).
Most of this weekend will be spent playing my smuggled "Look For Dining Room Table That Doesn't Take Up 3/4 of Our Tax Return" and "Why Can't I Fit More Books In This Box?" for our upcoming move.

For the curious late-comers...what was the original thread title?
I went yesterday to EB to pay my five for them to hold it for me.
Found out the hubby and I had paid $20 to reserve San Andreas, but never picked it up so I transferred it to University.
I thought the official release date was Tuesday, the 1st?
I won't complain if it is Monday, though.

It is still bolded in Elza B's first post, the line is "I'm having trouble with an addiction" or something close. It was a bit scary for a lighthearted thread.

Are the supplies of new videogames so limited that you need to reserve a copy? I could imagine that might be the case with cartridge-based games, but for most CD-based games, I think you could go to the store on the release date and pick up a copy.

They seem to go that quick.
I get mine from the same guys everytime, so I like to go ahead and have them hold if from me, JIC.
Turns out it's a good thing we go to the same people every time as now it's over half paid for. :)
Thanks, Foible!
I glanced over it thinking it was just like a title you can put in any post.
Forgot it did that automatically for New Thread posts.

Am I the only Sims 2 fan that's just not bothered about it? Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I'm in university, but it just doesn't appeal to me.

Accomplishing this difficult task will turn your sims' aspiration meters "platinum" (fully filled) for the rest of their natural lives, making them completely immune to the effects of aging.
The expansion will also add all-new outdoor "lot" areas in the form of an actual college campus, where you can find such popular college stopovers as cafes, libraries, and dormitories

I'm looking forward to raising the dead!
Please, let them actually be able bring the deceased back to life!
I was dissappointed with Unleashed's version of it...could only bring back zombies.
Speaking of which...I've only either won or totally lost when it comes to gambling death.
Does anyone know if you can get a green zombie sim in Sims 2, like in the orginal?

Wow, Lute, where's that from?
I've just read on Gamespot about it adding an extra want slot or two (and an extra fear slot if you mess up! ) but nothing about the anti-aging thing.
I wonder how the "streaking" thing works.
In Leisure Suit Larry, it happens after he has one too many drinks. :p

You're not going to find it this weekend or Monday either, more than likely. The official release date isn't until Tuesday, which is unsurprising given that 95% of games come out on Tuesdays. I preordered last week, so I expect it Tuesday or Wednesday.

Best Buy has the official release date listed on February 28th, Monday - so does Amazon. I'd assume that I'd be able to pick it up at Best Buy on Monday if it's listed as being available then. I hope. I really want to get it on Monday, just to annoy my husband since he's been listening to me obsess about it for weeks. I passed up Oregon Trail 5.0 last night because I'm holding out for University. If I can't get this until Tuesday, I may just go out and get Oregon Trail anyway.
Eh. I can always watch Farscape, I guess.

Got mine from Best Buy last night with no problem - the shelf was still pretty much full. Haven't done much with it yet, City of Heroes is still taking up a good chunk of my free time.
I know there are some new objects like the guitar that people were missing from the original. There's also a plant that resembles a cross between Audrey II and a cow (http://compsimgames.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?zi=1/XJ&sdn=compsimgames&zu=http%3A%2F%2Fthesims2.ea.com%2Fabout%2Fep1_videos_0_play_hi.php), its one of the new rewards and its function is to slow down aging. Sims with a degree get on an advanced track in an existing career path or one of four new ones. Those are Paranormal, Ecology, Showbiz, and Artist.
This expansion also announces the next one - Nightlife - due out in fall. Looks like it will do for Sims 2 what Hot Date did for the original.
I have mine on preorder, but KellyM bought me a copy and the guide at best buy. We are starting from scratch because we had terminal flakiness going on. I started with the Broke family, making Gnose Broke to marry Brandy. things are going much better for all involved. I am planning to feed Angela to a cow plant at first opportunity.
P.S. The guide has an index!! I am quite pleased by that.

I got mine yesterday!
It's glorious. :)
No problems so far and I'm loving all the new interactions.
I did kind of over do it for my first time playing; I moved in a family of 4 brothers and a sister, and one of the Townie teens (that basically everyone in Pleasantview has gone out with at one time or another to fill their "first kiss" and "go steady" wants :p ).
For some reason, one of the things I got most excited over so far is the Sims being able to buy and use cell phones! The first time I saw the machine I thought to myself, "Now why would I want to buy a one-time-use cell phone when I can just use the pay phone?"
I don't know why I was thinking it was one time use.
It's cute when they use the mp3 player...I can totally see myself acting like that. :p
I like how they included the treadmill like in the console game...makes things less confusing for my husband. ;) He's forever looking for it to put in his sim homes.
I've already started one of Betty's great grandkids down the Paranormal path so I can eventually resurrect her using the new Paranormal Career Reward.
So far, all six have made it through their first Final Exam. All passed with an A+ except for one, who got a B. That’s kind of confusing though, as it appeared that all of their meters were topped out. I'm thinking it's not related to their moods because the first one to go and get an A+ about pissed himself and passed out when he returned, he left out in such a foul mood.
Anyone else think that the Young Adults walk funny?

That’s kind of confusing though, as it appeared that all of their meters were topped out. I'm thinking it's not related to their moods...
Clarification: All their school meters were topped out...not mood meters.
I did try to get all the mood meters up, but the first one snuck up on me while I was shopping for cell phones. :D
Which reminds me...if you try go anywhere during the time the sim has to be in class, they apparently still go to class.
I didn't notice the time and sent Simon to fool around at some shops, but when he was supposed to arrive there I couldn't find him. I finally realized what had happened so I just waited it out to see if he would come back to the store area after his class was over.
He did.

I've got it - installed it last night and removed all of my downloads and hacks:(. I have to put some back in - I miss my hairstyles and funky clothes.
I have to admit, I am completely underwhelmed by the new objects and hair. I was really looking forward to having new stuff, and I'm kinda pissed we didn't get it. I'll have to go back to my hacks and downloads.
I do like the college thing, though. My Eliza Crichton (okay, so the first new characters I create are always in relation to Farscape - sue me) is now a sophomore with lots of grant money. I've decided to have her pledge a sorority this year and try to get into a band. We'll see what I can do tonight.

Am I alone in being underwhelmed by this game?
Things I don't like:
1. Random pranks. No, I don't. I don't like silly slapstick stuff IRL and I don't like it in-game.
2. Influence. Honestly, peer pressure to do assholish things is one of the bad things in life - why on earth would anyone want to incorporate it into a game? It's like my Sims are living in a START post.
2a: I made sure my Sims could afford a maid in their rental place at Uni - so why are they obsessed with telling other Sims to go clean for them?
3. I can appreciate that while staying in a Dorm you're going to get people from other dorms wandering in and setting off fire alarms, and other irritating things. But when my Sims are renting a home that is unconnected to any dorms, I think the burglar alarm should catch any people letting themselves in and the police should treat them as criminals. That would be far more amusing to me than having some idiot in a costume race in and do something annoying to my Sims.
Things I do like:
1. The mobile phones and other electrical gizmos from the vending machine.
2. The new window/door and other building mode stuff.
3. I might have just been lucky, but the pre-generated Sims on the university campus seem less ugly than the ones in town.
4. It's good that study of skills done during childhood and high school pay off with financial benefits for university. All my 'kids' learn how to cook really well, and also play a lot of chess.
5. The ability to work for cash at the drop of a hat is handy.
What I don't get about this expansion:
It's been pretty well established that the prime marketing base for this game is mostly teen girls and stay-at-home-mothers. (Or, in my case, stay-at-home-depressive-semi-agoraphobics, but I doubt that's a major demographic!)
Last I checked (and admittedly, I'm not a mother), mothers spend a lot of time training their kids not to pull stupid pranks and act destructively. Where's the appeal in a game that presents it as being great fun and a normal part of teen life? Before people pile on here with a related argument - I'm not suggesting that games like GTA cause kids to go out and steal cars. But the big difference is that real-life stealing cars and killing people is illegal and immoral and kids know that*. Non-psycho people can tell the difference between game fun and what's just plain wrong when translated to the real world. However, pranks are neither illegal nor immoral, they're just stupid - and teens are frequently attracted to stupid.
What's the next expansion? Sims2: The Jackass Edition? Impress your SimFriends by performing more and more ludicrous stunts?
Basicaly, I'm:
Overwhelmingly not impressed with this expansion, though most of it is okay and I'm working around the bits I don't like. Certainly I'm feeling disappointed after having looked forward to it so much. Basically I'm just hanging out for modthesims2.com to release a hack to allow me to lock the door of my house against any non-invited guests (they already have one for the Young Adult 'funny walk', btw - and it works without causing game problems as I'm using it myself).
------------
*Speaking of which, I'd find it really funny if the jerks doing the fun-buzzer handshake type stuff happened to be sitting in a pool of water from a water balloon and electrocuted themselves and died. Or, as mentioned before, the crazed mascots got picked up by the burglar alarm and carted away by police. Or people putting detergent into the fountain found out they'd killed fish in there and had a breakdown. Consequences! That's what this game is lacking.
Bites When Provoke, you don't have to use your influence to be a jackass. I use it mostly to matchmake, getting sims to talk to other sims at parties. I can attest as someone who actually uses influence to get someone to clean and cook for her that there is something to being able to do that.
Things I like:
Life goals and permanent platinum. I love that since Dave Lister became Captain Hero he can always make smart milk.
I like that there are more interactions. I think pranks are a bit annoying, but is is a motivation to have nicer sims.
The band and additional instruments.
That you can make money easily, even if it is not very much.
I now have ways to get visiting sims to do things. That would have been very useful the first time around when I was working Brandi Broke as a single mom. This time I maried her off to Gnose Snifter right away. Everyone is much happier.
Skill building in childhood has more of a reward. My sims usually have many skill points by the time they are adults. That has meant that they get to the top of their careers quickly, but it was kind of dull. Now it has rewards.
There are reasons to have sims have their own friends and not just family friends.
Things I don't like:
I can't turn the cell off when my sims go to bed. Afternoon naps are impossible.
Visiting sims who decide to perform even though they have no talent.
My flashing blue custom objects.

I love that since Dave Lister became Captain Hero he can always make smart milk. *giggle*Dave Lister as a hero? Now that's a concept!
I do have a suggestion for the mobile phone problem. MTS2's J.M. Pescado (http://www.eviltone.net/evilforum/forumdisplay.php?f=22) has a fantastic file you can pop in your downloads folder - it's called the Phone & Taxi hack. It's self-contained (like all their mods) so if you want to remove it at some stage you can delete it without impacting anything else. For the record, I find it better to rename the files with a consistent prefix - all the hacks/mods I've put in are always prefixed with HackMod_(filename) or HackObj_(filename) so I can find them in the event that something I install causes a crash. So far, I haven't had any problems with any of them. :)
But, back to the phone hack. The following is a part-quote from the description:
ANNOYANCES ELIMINATED:
1. Sims will no longer hang up the phone before repairing their relationships: They will now converse until their relationship with the sim they are speaking to is fully repaired (from their perspective), AND their Social need has been fulfilled. No more babysitting and forcing them to keep calling until they actually are DONE. After the relationship is at 100 and they are fully Socialized, they will automatically hang up.
2. Teens can now go and sneak out even, or especially if, they lack a guardian. This should not be construed as support for parenticide, although we're sure some of you are going to try it now. In event that no adult is present, the teen sim no longer requires permission to go out, because, obviously, he has nobody to request it from but himself. The options to "Go Out" and "Sneak Out" will appear at the appropriate times.
3. Midnight Call Lock - Ever wondered why your Sims somehow seem to decide to go to sleep earlier when you're not playing? Tired of them simply screaming at you even though normally, they never go to sleep under YOUR direction until like 2 in the morning? We couldn't make insomnia-tracking to determine which families are regularly insomniacs, but you are now protected from accidentally doing this: If your sim attempts to call another sim outside of valid calling hours, he will pick up the phone, then realize this is a bad time and put it down before bugging the other sim. You may still attempt to place emergency, service, transportation, sneak-out, and crank calls normally.
4. No more dumbass phone calls: Friends who miss you no longer make stupid phone calls just to waste your time with their whining: They will instead make a USEFUL phonecall, so if a friend you haven't heard from in awhile calls you to talk, instead of bitching about it, this is why.
5. Sim-children should no longer bug random adults that they bumped into on some community lot by phone. Sim children should only call their relatives or other children.
6. Sims should no longer place casual calls when they are NOT SUPPOSED TO BE HOME. No more truant children calling for kids which are at school, or people calling when they SHOULD be at work.
FEATURES ADDED:
1. Set Ringer - Set the number of rings you want your phone to ring when an incoming call is received: 5, 10, 15, the default 20, or even OFF, which means you will not be notified or receive any incoming calls. Don't do this if you're expecting a call from your publisher.
My Sims have a phone and a mobile, and I've set the main phone to never ring. So consequently, the mobile never goes off either. They can still dial out perfectly well though. :) Oh, and you can change the settings at any time, so if you only want to turn the ringer off while your Sim snoozes, that's perfectly do-able.
Pre-University I also had a nifty Caller ID thing installed, which told me who was calling and who they wanted to speak to. I'm looking forward to the EP version. :)

Is anyone else having a problem with extreme slowness? It seems like it takes about 15 minutes for a house to load now that I've installed University, and the gameplay is never entirely smooth. I had some slowness problems with Sims 2, but never this bad.
DiosaBellissima

carterba I have noticed it is freakishly slow- particularly when I create a sim and try to move them into a lot.
Over all, I like the new stuff that comes with the Univeristy; I am underwhelmed, though. I expected LOTS of new content, but there isn't too much.
Things I like:
The college students can woohoo.
In a dorm, there can be unlimited people, but you only have to control one.
Prepared food in the dorms.
Different parties.
Streaking (hilarious).
Things I dislike:
In a sorority, you have to control all the members living in the house (unless I'm missing something). I would like the sororities to be like a dorm.
EXTREME SLOWNESS. It's probably just my computer, but jeez. I had to uninstall and reload the program twice because it kept freezing over and over at random spots.
My sim got in a fight with the cow. It made her sad. When my sim is sad, I am sad.
I haven't played enough to give a detailed review, but I do agree the kids all seem to be more attractive.

I like the whole concept of the game, and I enjoy pretty much everything, except that the semesters are entirely too short. not even a full 3 days per semester? shit, my sims spend the entire TIME writing the term paper, doing homework, in class, or kissing a teacher's ass. no parties. no fun. I could probably let them go out once a semester if I wanted them to get Cs rather than As or Bs.
I don't use cheats, but for once, man, I really wish somebody'd come up with one to fix this. some sort of freeze-time function, like the "Aging Off" thing, only for semester-time. otherwise, it's really just kind of a chore.

I should state right up front that I'm a control freak when it comes to my Sims -- they're like little Stepford Sims. So I've also been a little stressed by the pace of the semesters -- not a lot of time to have fun. I'm alarmed that the semester clock keeps ticking when the Sims go to a campus community lot. So far, I've been giving each Sim one outing per semester, and they're still able to make As. The research paper seems a lot more important than the assignments in terms of class performance, and I send them to college with a lot of skill points so they don't need to spend too much time building those. I've pretty much been ignoring the professors, the Sims have been getting As without becoming friends with the professors. One of them always wants to flirt with the profs, but she has enough other wants that I'm able to meet those instead to keep her spirits up.
Can you kick the NPC Sims out of the dorms? I'm sending mine to University five at a time, and between my five Sims, and the random dorm inhabitants, the game is running a little slow.

Yeah, but. . .
There are no hot tubs in the dorm and no room for double beds in the bedrooms. I tried to get my hot co-eds to go to the gym, figuring there might be a hot tub there, but I couldn't figure out how to get the two of them there at the same time.
I'm sure it's something simple, like just asking, but I could not find that options. So all my students are chaste little honor students.

For the record, I find it better to rename the files with a consistent prefix - all the hacks/mods I've put in are always prefixed with HackMod_(filename) or HackObj_(filename) so I can find them in the event that something I install causes a crash. So far, I haven't had any problems with any of them. :)
JM is one of my favorite modders :D You know, I should really put my stuff (like this nursery set (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?p=318628#post318628)) on my page too, but I never seem to get around to it. If I ever get a day off from work I'm really going to. I mean it.

I don't know if you count it as cheating, but I just keep using the zapper to get their moods up.
Also, it helps a lot to Influence someone else to do their term papers.
I like to make the cow or cheerleader do it. :D
You also can do your homework and term papers down town.
I've graduated all of my original Pleasantview Crew. Two of the graduated boys fell in love with fellow college students, and I want them to graduate too before moving them in.
Also...if anyone else is having a problem with Final Exams, here's a link to the fix I'm using.
http://forums.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=48978&page=1&pp=25
I've had no problems so far.
I've brought my first few people back to life.
Betty, my first Sim, naturally. ;)
What's weird is when she came back, the Social Bunny was in her relationship menu.... twice.
Now, if they would just give us something to turn back the aging on them.
I was curious about the boolprop cheat, so I tested it out on Betty and her resurrected husband, Pao, without saving. It allowed me to turn them both into Young Adults which didn’t do much good because as soon as she aged, she was an elder again. I also didn’t see a way to send her to college as a Young Adult, so I just exited without saving.
Now the weird thing is Betty has been over to other Sims houses as an NPC and she looks normal, but when she’s gossiping about Pao the thought bubble shows him as a Young Adult still. I haven’t been back to that house to check it out yet, but that just shows how Boolprop can’t be trusted. :D
If they live in the same household, you can use a taxi to take multiple Sims to whereever. Also, you can use a cell phone to invite a sim to a community lot once you are there. You can't control the invited sim, but you can get them there.

Biggirl A double bed will fit in some of the dorm rooms, you just can't have anything else in there. Also, you can buy a hottub to stick on the dorm lawn- assuming you have the $.

Now, if they would just give us something to turn back the aging on them.Is Betty a playable Sim or an NPC? If she's playable it's a piece of cake using SimPE. Just make her the age _prior_ to the one you want, and set her 'days left' to zero. Then play her and grow her up and she'll transition beautifully. Of course, if you want her to be a YA you'd have to make her a child, grow her to teen and then send her to Uni...
If she's a townie it's not much harder - just follow the same steps to set her age, get one of your Sims to invite her over (she'll walk a bit odd) and use Merola's mirror from MTS2 to take control of her long enough to do the 'grow up'. :)
If you don't set them to the age previous to the one you want and do the 'grow up' they look and act weird. It seems the age transition thing is important to reset their size and behaviours.
ONe of the first things we did at the dorm was to replace their beds with the very best ones. It gives you hours more wake time with them. The next big thing that helps is the bong in the dorm. Our Sims usually skip one or two classes, but always do the term paper, group study, and assignments. So far, all A+ for everyone. The sims we raise from babies have all 8s or nearly so for their skills. We put three in a nice house. They all have creativity 8 and can make 1000 simoleons in a jam session. That is getting to be a nice house.

She's my very first Sim that I played all the way through to death and brought back.
That's good advice...I'll have to look into it. I just wish it was a part of the game. It probably will be in a future expansion pack.
: crosses fingers :
I got a Sim into the Secret Society last night for the first time.
I was kind of wondering why he was being kidnapped at first until I saw the blazer the girl was wearing. :p
After playing around in the SS house, I have a question.
What does the new Aspiration Reward Camera do besides let you earn money?
It has so many different settings but I can't see what else it's supposed to do.
When I took pictures with it, I didn't have the option to view them in the Photo Album...it was disabled. All I could do was sell them directly out of the camera.
I thought you had the option to hang them on walls and stuff, but didn't see an actual print that I could pick up anywhere. I even went into the buy mode thinking I could pull it off the camera (like a painting off the easel) but no luck there.

Is it me, or was the SS (heehee) a little unimpressive? I don't know what I expected, but I was a bit disappointed. Why is the cow plant completely locked away there?

It eats people! After it eats a Sim, it produces some elixer or something (never tried it)

How much effect does it have? Just a few days or is it worth it?

I haven't tried the cow plant yet, but I would think it's just like the elixer of life. Three days per sip.

You go into Build or Buy mode and you can pick the photo up out of the camera - it's sticking out of a slot in the side of it. Once you grab it you can hang it on a wall or stand it on a sidetable.

a word of warning: Be careful about hydrostatic testing boxes with more and more books.
They're really effing heavy when you do that.
(Not that I would be speaking from experience. Not me. I'm too smart to have forgotten that while packing. Really. Don't you believe me? Why are you shaking your head at me? :p)

Thank you, cazzle! I couldn't for the life of me work out what the deal was with that camera. :)
Well, I have not done this yet, but apparently drinking the elixer gives you a memory of drinking the sim killed for the elixer, "Drank April" if April was killed to make the elixer. Sims can have wants to drink particular other sims.

Now that's just too weird!
cazzle: As for the camera...I thought I had tried that, but I'll give it another go tonight.
Just to be clear; you did this with the one sitting in the Secret Society house?
I had the thought that maybe since the Sim I was playing with didn't live there, it might now work the same for him.
Then again, maybe I was just missing grabbing it.

I have done it with the camera in the SS house and with the same type of camera in regular houses. I promise you this is how it's done!
If you look at this image (http://thesims2.ea.com/sims2_exchange/story/13/21213/snapshot_2f406420_4f40f999.jpg) from my Sims 2 album (no idea if you need to be logged in or not) then you'll see a photo I took with the camera hanging on the wall behind the sims, and more portraits (http://thesims2.ea.com/exchange/story_detail.php?asset_id=21213) in this picture.

D'oh! That second link goes to my whole album when I was trying to link to this picture. Feel free to browse the album if you're interested but the link in this post shows some of the pictures and the camera they're from. I only wish I'd thought to take a picture of the photo sticking out of the camera while I had the game running. Maybe later.

Is anyone else having trouble getting their sims to go to class? From what I understand, you click on the sim within an hour of the start of class and tell them to go. When I do this, though, the only options that come up are "meditate" or "do yoga". The two sims I started out with all flunked their first semester, and I lost interest after that (well, actually, I discovered Neverwinter Nights, but that's a separate issue.)
It's probably a problem caused by the hacks I installed from MTS2, but has anyone else had this problem and fixed it?

There should be a go to school icon (like the go to work icon) in the upper left hand corner. Where all the other "thing I'm doing right now", "next thing I'll do" icons go.
If your sim has too many things to do before going to school, you've got to get rid of them. If you're sim is in a good mood they go to school all by themselves no matter what crap they're supposed to do.

It's probably a hack from MTS2 causing a conflict. There's a thread somewhere on there that lists all the hacks that are University compatible and all the ones that aren't. There's also a utility there that lists all the hacks you have and what they do (in case you've got some that you didn't install intentionally, which is possible since they can come packaged with downloaded lots). Sims2Pack Clean Installer or something similar.

Thanks, I figured it was probably a conflict of my own making. As soon as I can tear myself away from Neverwinter Nights I'll go look for that list.
