View Full Version : That Taco Bell ad is asinine!

Have y'all seen that Taco Bellad with four white guys doing a capella rap, ending with, "Go, David, it's your birthday"
reapeated ad infinitum and ad nauseam? Not that I ever ate at Taco Bell much anyway, but that ad has made me swear off EVER going there. It irritates me no end! Are there other commercials that make you want to puke on the tube?

I happen to find that new Jamie Lee Curtis cell phone commercial to be particularly insidious. She spends the whole time trying to quietly get out of this party without being seen or heard. Then, as she's finally scott free, she shouts "BYE LOSERS!!!" at the top of her lungs. But perhaps I'm putting a bit too much thought into the continuity of a commercial.
Also, while I know I'm gonna get pelted with sharp rocks for saying this, I do actually kinda like that other Taco Bell commercial. Y'know, the one with all the guys standing in a circle singing "Encherito" over and over again. I know it's stupid, but somehow, it's so weird it's funny.

The Taco Bell commercial is very annoying, I don't eat there, I prefer authentic mexican food. The AT&T collect commercials have maxed me out on the idiot that always stars in them.
One commercial I do like is the one for the Discovery channel, two guys dressed up as mosquitos or mosquitoes (where is Dan Quayle when I need the idiot).
We have some locally produced commercials that any fifth grade acting class could do better.
Oh, well, that is my input.

"My name is David. My friends call me "G". One hungry young dawg I be. I'm cool like a penguin, slick like a tuxedo, so hook me up with my gooey Encharito....Go David, it's your birthday."
Sorry, I had to.
No one commercial bothers me. It's usually a whole group of commercials from one product. Like The Gap, Old Navy, and the newer Pepsi commercials with that little girl in them. Also, 1-800-COLLECT, 10-10-220, and all other phone commercials. Those anti drunk driving commercials like the one where they show the ultrasound picture and then it says something like: "Abby Danielle, killed by a drunk driver on her way to being born." Not because I approve of drunk driving but because it's just so damn sad. Okay, I'm sure that there are more, but this is enough for now.

Ahh. The atmosphere. Ahh.
These kind of crack me up - I wonder if they auditioned actors to see how badly they could pretend to act, or if they really just pulled random people to read cue cards while dressed up like mosquitoes (from WWWebster: "Inflected Form(s): plural -toes also -tos) or meteors or partially-digested fish. But while watching croc week I kind of got sick of them.

There's another commercial that gets me giggling everytime I see it, too (sorry, I know I'm bringing happiness and sunshine into the Sucky Commercials thread, give me a minute and I'll be gone)...anyway, it's for some beer and their new 'keg can'. There's a guy sitting on a porch reading and he says to someone off-camera, "Hey, throw me a cold one, would ya?" Suddenly he's knocked straight backward off the porch through the railing by a flying keg. :D Love that one.

I think the Herbal Essences shampoo commercial is hands down the most eye-gougingly, crotch-jabbingly, infertility-inducing ad ever shown on television.

However, a few GOOD commercials (hard to believe, but true):
The IBM flying car commercial: "It's the year 2000, and I don't see any flying cars. Where are the flying cars? I was promised flying cars. Why are there no flying cars? Why? WHY?"
The Lexus ones w/ Joe scamming money in creative ways.
The Passat commercial with the cookie on the ground.

Chili's Restaurant wasn't bad enough with 'I want my baby back baby back baby back baby back....'
Now they have that equally, if not more obnoxious 'skim-duh-bam-duh-boom-skimmy-bam-boom.' I want to slap the goofy looking blond, and smash those three waiters (one white, one black and one Asian, of course) heads together when they say that phrase with their phony excitement.

That's my favorite in years, I was gonna steal it for my sig but I was too lazy to write it down.
Taco Bell has always had awful commercials. Anyone remember TB's M.C. Hammer commercials? Anyone remember M.C. Hammer?
Hey, I LOVE that Taco Bell commercial, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. It is, at least for me, one of the best commercials in recent memory. Why do I like it so much? Well, I often find myself doing a boom box beat with my voice, and that's exactly what one guy is dong in that commerical. So, I do it along with him. Then the Chihuahua sings, "Go David, it's your birthday, along with the guys." It's old school, it's funny, it's a good ad.
Ditto the IBM ads with Avery Brooks (a.k.a. Captain Sisco from Star Trek DS9) I like the one about having an epiphone.
And those discovery.com commercials are simply genious. The meteor one is priceless. Our very own Strainger has "Ahhhh...the atmoshphere. Ahhhhh" as his sig.

I LOVE THIS ONE!!!! Way back in elementary school, in the early 70's, we just knew that way off in the future, by the year 2000, we would all have flying cars and wear silver space suits and eat food pills and be living on the moon....oh, never mind...
The Jamie Lee Curtis one is rather ironic, considering her hubby is a Duke or Lord or something, and she probably has to go to stuffy gatherings like that occasionally. I can't stand her, just for the record.
The one I REALLY freaking hate is the one for Pepsi One, with the people on the rocking ferry boat, sipping the wrong drink each time. I hate it!

There is a new genre in music: prescription drug commercial music. There is nothing like it ever. John Tesh must have peaked when he made it (if he made it). This music puts those drug commercials over the top, those that depict that using their drugs will put you in some Happyland where everyone will smile goofy, dance all day and make paper mache dolls. Te best part is where they gloss over the side effects, while turning up the music: using XXX can cause diarrhea, upset stomach, acne and sometimes death. I was always really annoyed by those adds for the Oxygen network. A bunch of newborn girls in a maternity ward tossing their pink hats off... I mean, I have nothing against starting up a Women's TV Network... but why'd they have to do it so BADLY?!?
Then there was the great mystery back when the Mach 3 razors were introduced... anyone else remember those? That they showed adds for 6 months or something, saying only "Man has achieved Mach 3!", and they didn't reveal what the product was?!? THAT was annoying!!
And, finally, every single Pepsi One add pisses me off to no end. Why? 'Cuz Pepsico cancelled the World's Greatest Soda, Josta, to produce Pepsi One. Those assholes!! Grr! ::shakes fist::
And, yeah, those Taco Bell adds are really annoying. However, rather than use them as an excuse not to eat there, I just don't buy the food that they advertise... after all, I just can't get enough of their chicken quesadillas. But now that Del Taco has that chicken taco, that all may change...

All of the kids are out of tune, and the accompanyment is a horrble sounding toy keyboard and drum machine. The flaw in YOUR logic is that all broadcast television has commercials and they all suck, IMHO. The Simpsons has seen better days, and one of the main reasons I decided to pull my cable was because Andy Richter left Conan and it just wasn't the same after that. What I'm saying is that you have to draw the line somewhere. That little Pepsi girl belongs on Celebrity Death Match.
That "d d d different" commercial for Dodge is a truly annoying piece of work.

One of my favourites is for a local hardware store:
A man and a visibly pregnant woman are looking at paint colours and we presume this is for a nursery. They finally choose the perfect colours and the scene switches where we see the man and the woman at a sporting event, the woman has painted the team colours on her face and is going off like the world's biggest superfan.
Our beer commercials are often the best done, our infamous IamCanadian ad actually was nominated at Cannes and did very well.
The Pepsi girl really has to go.

You want a rip-off commercial? There's the funny one by Bud (I think) where the guy's at the checkout counter at the grocery store and the bag-boy is cramming everything into the bag...The best one is where he takes the plant and turns it upside down and shoves it in...anyway, when he gets to the Budweiser he wraps it in bubble-wrap and writes
"Fragile" or "Handle with Care" or something. Really funny stuff.
Then, a couple months ago, I see a commercial for some other beer or coffee company or something. It's almost IDENTICAL. The plant part and everything. It made me so mad. It almost makes me think they came up with it first and Bud stole the idea before they released it and by then it was too late or something, but it was such a blatant rip-off. And it wasn't as funny, either!

The weirdest part about the talking M&Ms is that the adorably dopey yellow M&M's voice is performed by J K Simmons, the actor who portrays the violent, cruel, butt rapin', murderin', hatemonging Aryan Brotherhood prison leader Vern Schillinger on Oz. Easily the most evil character on TV.

I really like the new Taco Bell commercials. I find cheesy rap to be amusing, and the singing version is just silly. Besides, the ratdog gets minimul(sp) exposure in the new commercials, and that's a Good Thing.
The dodge D-d-d-different commercial would have sucked back in the days of Max headroom. Nowadays, a commercial like that is just plain sad.
The Pepsi one girl really needs to go away. That's all I ask. Just go away.
Anyone see the new Nike commerical with the soccer-playing secret agents breaking into the hi-rise (I've only seen it at the movies during previews)? SPOOFE Bo Diddly: Did they seriously discontinue Josta BECAUSE of Pepsi One? Either way...THOSE BASTARDS! I'LL KILL THEM *ahem*...
I also hate the Pepsi One commercials, but not because of the premise of the commercials. What pisses me off is the slogan: "Pepsi One Tastes More Like Regular Cola." More like regular cola than WHAT? Horse shit? I'd probably agree with you there, but compared to, say, another diet cola, I'd say no.
Also, there's another, even funnier, commercial for A&W Root Beet with the "thick-headed" campaign. I forget all that it had, but it included a guy looking in the mirror at lipstick on his cheek and saying "Wow, honey! This doesn't look like YOUR shade of lipstick!" Then he's watching TV saying "Hey, honey! Come look at this! It's the video of my bachelor party! Oh man, what was I thinking there? Hahahahaha!" Followed by the "[THICK HEADED]" stamp. I love it!
Another ad campaign that really pisses me off are those beer commercials (forgot which brand) that just have the guy sitting there talking about things that have nothing to do with beer. Then something about beers needing to be original, so you should buy that beer for no particular reason. Those commercials are illogical and they piss me off for some reason.
Also, it's "¡No blue aquí!"
And re: the Mach 3 commercial: There's one that says "This fathers' day, surprise him with a Mach 3," and it shows a guy waking up and his son giving him a razor. Awww. I think this is one of the "so-bad-it's-good" commercials. It's bad because even though I'm not a father (and not even old enough to shave yet) the last thing I'd want is a razor. But it's good because it reminds me of the episode of The Simpsons where Homer buys a gun:
Homer: Open your eyes, Marge. I've got a surprise for you!
{Marge opens here eyes to the image of Homer pointing a gun straight at her face.}
It would be so funny to parody that commercial with that same theme.
Son: HEY DAD! {slash slash slash slash slash}
And re: the Taco Bell commercial, I don't really like the one with the rappers (1 table, 4 guys, 0 talent), but I do like the one with the little guy singing "encharito-rito" really high.
Ahhhhh! The atmosphere! AHHHH!!

I thought that was Outpost.com.

'Twas Outpost.com. They had the one with the wolves-eating-marching-band thing, then there was the shoot-the-gerbil-through-the-"O"-in-"Outpost", or something like that, which I though was much funnier.

There seem to be a lot of bad commercials on TV now...
The absolute worst comercial on TV (at least in my neck of the woods) is that "Dempsters Hearty White Bread" commercial, with that little kid in it ("You just have to wear them down. They keep trying to feed you brown bread with those yucky fiber bits, but you keep refusing to eat anything but white bread..."). Unfortunately it's on like twice per ad break.
Those Dodge commercials suck.
Everytime I see that Pepsi One commercial with the barge I have to say "Meningitis!" out loud (there was a minor meningitis outbreak here in Edmonton and it was pretty much the only thing in the news for a week and everyone got vaccinated, and I remember that every time I see that commercial).
The Evil Pepsi Demon Child must be exorcised from the airwaves immediately, never to return.
That Brisk Iced Tea commercial with Elvis, James Brown, Willie Nelson, and Coolio, all in claymation, is just diabolically horrible. What the fuck were they thinking when they made that garbage?
The enchirito commericals suck, too.
1-800-COLLECT services should be abolished based solely so that they wouldn't run any horrible commercials anymore. I have never once seen a commercial for one of these services, whose very existence didn't diminish the universe (how's that for an insult?).
I hate all of those commercials. There are a number that I like. The IBM commercials with Avery Brooks are good. Those A&W commercials are good. The "Make 7 Up Yours" commercials are funny.
My favorite commercial at the moment is one of the Molson "I AM CANADIAN" commercials, that starts out: "Canadians are polite...". The part where they say: "Canadians are passive???", then it cuts to an old shot of Canadian hockey player AT THE OLYMPICS who has just been thrown into the penalty box, who gesture at someone as if to say, "As soon as I get out of here, you're goin' down!!!"... Makes me smile every time I see it.
Damn... I watch WAY too much TV...

What make the Pepsi One "tastes more like regular Pepsi" commercials even more obnoxious is the fact that it was kinda good with Diet Dr Pepper (which is a tolerable, if not good, product). It was just great to lean over to someone and say, completely outta nowhere, "you know what I heard about Diet Dr Pepper?"..."It tastes more like regular Dr Pepper". You either creeped them out or got them to play along. Then Pepsi One came along and killed that joke.
And the Pepsi girl should just be lined up next to all the performers that agreed to appear with her and just shot.

I absolutely fucking hated the Sprint ad a while back with that bitch teaching a class of school kids about their new long distance plan (think all of them dancing around the classroom chanting "nickle across the state, nickle across the country" over and over). For some reason, the fact that they even dared pretend they were doing this in school made my blood boil. My roommates thought I was nuts.
My favorite commercials at the moment are for Fox Sports Net. There's one that shows a guy in pants and a bra staring at the mirror. His wife comes in, stares at him, and asks, "who was the all-time rebounding leader in the NBA?" Then a graphic comes up that says, "Don't you wish all questions were sports questions?" That one kills me.
They also have a series where they show seemingly authentic extremely bizarre foreign sports, followed by, "News from the only region you care about. Yours."

Know what commercials get my goat? The ones that tell everyone that Airtouch became Verizon Wireless. "All the world over it's so easy to see/ People everywhere just wanna be free..." It's a nifty little jingle, not annoying... 'cept the commerical just comes in from out of nowhere with it, AND they usually it twice in a row (same music, same company, same idea... just different images on the screen...). They don't adertise any special deals, no sales, no products, NOTHING. Just a name-change. And they've been doing this for weeks now.

I also hate that Verizon Wireless one. The scene with the guy who either is a Hassidic Jew or Amish, flashing the peace sign (V for Verizon) at the 2 cute girls....come on!
Other commercial I hate...the one for Riunite wine with that really annoying girl walking through the little vingettes of people drinking wine...I can't stand it!
