View Full Version : Give old bands Nu-metil names

Indygrrl

I was just discussing how stupid some of the nu-metal names are and how I refuse to spell them the way the bands do.

KoRn
Limp Bizkit
Staind

etc.

So I said, yeah, I can't see Blayck Sabbyth, or Ozzy Ozzbizzourne (that's more Snoop), then my fiance pulled out the ultimate, m0t0rh3AD. Blaspehmy, all of them.

What are some old bands and how would you make their names nu-metil?

I hate to say, but that guy might be going to hell anyway, even though he's trying to look like Jeebus. haha. You don't get forgiven for the musical transgressions he's made. :D

Nu metil names, guys, not aol speak. (Yeah, I know, the Motorhead example was aol speak).

One could argue they were already there, misspelling a perfectly good insect name. :D Can I nominate Led Zeppelin?

I know you mean misspelled words, but I have the perfect one. Combine the Beatles and a hard -rockin' name and you get:

BEATALLICA!

What?

Oh, damn. (http://web.archive.org/web/20031202031753/www.sensoryresearch.com/~starkeff/beatallica.html)

My brother's personal rule is that he won't listen to any band that intentionally misspells their name (Staind, Skrape, Trapt, etc) or any band with a number in the name (Matchbox 20, Maroon 5, SR-71, etc).

That's a pretty decent rule, as long as he's willing to make a few exceptions. You know, Led Zeppelin, etc.

Some band on My Space invited me to be their friend and they were called EvasivE. Haha. Lame. I refrained from responding because I didn't want to hurt their feelings.

Or Def Leppard. The fact is, more prevalent now as it may be, bands have been intentionally misspelling their names way before Nu-metal was conceived.

I make some exceptions but I feel much the same in regards to bands with numbers in their names. For instance, I can't help but like some Maroon 5 but Matchbox 20, Blink 187, Three Doors Down, and most other docker rock just does nothing for me.

Well there goes Three Dog Night or Kingston Trio (depending on how strict he adheres to the rule). A little saddened, but less so, by the exclusion of 10000 Maniacs.

Am I being whooshed on Led Zeppelin? I realize that the Led should be our old friend atomic number 82, but the past tense of "to lead" is still a word.

It's a word, but in context it's misspelled. IIRC, wasn't the band name spelled "Led" in order to prevent mispronunciation?

No misspelling, as far as I know. They named themselves after the high-school (either gym or woodshop) teacher that told them "they would never amount to nothin'!".

You got a problem, take it up with Mr. and Mrs. Skynyrd.

Well, the teacher (at least according to VH1 Behind the Music) was Leonard Skinner. So it is a creatively altered homage.

KoRn at least has an explanation. The first album was pretty much Davis' childhood set to music. So they designed the logo to look like a child wrote it -- mispelled, the R is backwards, etc.
