She got voted off tonight, which means that the nasty jerk who put:
Spoiler alert
Gretchen is the winner.
In the other thread is WRONG WRONG WRONG!!!!!!
The end of the best show I have ever watched is NOT ruined anymore!!
So, speculate, debate, discuss....
but PLEASE, no more: "I know the winner, and here it is."
I know some of you think this is a stupid show - and thats your perrogative, but some of us are really enjoying this, dont ruin it. Okay?
GO RICHARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's ok. I was half kidding. I'll go and watch it tonight. I really don't care if you give away the ending, I just saw the opportunity and had to give you some shit. :)
It's tough being here on the West Coast. Everything gets to us three hours late.

And Richard's alliance held up, did you notice that? Everyone else voted hodge-podge but Richard's alliance got rid of the first member of the former other tribe. Richard and Sue say the goal is to get rid of all the other tribe first and if the alliance holds they may very well do it.

Spoiler Alert!!!
I started watching this show about 3 weeks ago and I LOVE IT!! I was very surprised to see Gretchen go. I thought for sure Greg was going to go until he won immunity. I do believe that Gervaise will get voted off next week.
Who is your best guess as to who will win? I'm thinking Sue, but Colleen seemed to be ignored as far as getting any votes. Maybe she'll slip in as the silent winner?? Also, Rich seems to be a pretty likable guy. I'd like to keep him around until the end.

Here's what I'm waiting for, regarding the voting alliance. Picture the following scenario, if you will...
Five people remain on the island, Richard's alliance and one other. (For the hell of it, let's say it's Greg... he won the immunity challenge tonight, right?) Then, Greg wins the immunity challenge... the alliance is screwed! They have to vote one of their own out, opening all the tensions right back up for the last couple of episodes.
Now THAT'S an episode I can't wait to see. Let's just hope it happens...
IMHO, I'm going with Richard to win it all. He seems to annoy the fewest people, which will be very important when the kicked-off people come back to select the winner. Besides, he gets to sleep with the girls! Too bad he can't enjoy the opportunity... :(

I don't get it. Wasn't Gretchen the 1 member of the beautiful tribe who didn't want to go along with voting the other tribe out first? Why would the Alliance vote her off?
Also, am I the only 1 who suspects that Richard may have been tanking the challenge? Not that he is Superman or anything but as the snorkeler I figured he would make it to the 2nd round. Perhaps he felt save enough on this vote to avoid the impression that he was a strong competitor.
I guess I'm the only one so far that cannot stand Richard. He is so arrogant! That being said, I really want Gervase voted off. When he was gloating to the camera last week that he had literally done nothing (not to mention he flubbed two challenges for his tribe) AND he said the only thing dumber than women were cows... well, what the hell is he still doing there? Charm can only get you so far.

There is a very definite line of disinformation being put out by CBS. In the weeks prior to tonight I had heard through 3 separate channels (this MB being one) that it was Gretchen who would win. I was very shocked . . . and yes, very happy when she was this weeks loser. Only because it means no one really has any clue who wins.
Back to the channels. I work in radio, and I heard via a couple of respected industry sources that a station in Seattle had accidently leaked the winner - what I was told was that it was "a female with a German name". Who else could it be ? Then there was the female lawyer (Stacey ??) who was on CBS the day after she was kicked off not two weeks ago. She was asked by the interviewer to give a one word answer to names being submitted. When "Gretchen" was asked, she answered "survivor". The local press had a field day, obviously she had messed up, she had by mistake given the winner.
As Kelli has said . . . NOPE
It is so wide open, and I love it. I will be watching on the edge of my seat every week, eating all this disinformation - and drama with a proverbial spoon.
I love this show.

The show is pretty darn entertaining, but it will become much less so if Richard's alliance just votes off a new person each week. Why watch when you know who the final 4 will basically be.
However, after this week, I think Rudy will break off from them and Greg will do something devious to break up the alliance. Since my favorite (Gretchen) is now gone, I will hold out hope the Greg or Sean makes it to the end.

There's no way the alliance can hold up for long because both Richard and Sue are such devious backstabbers that they will turn on each other before they get rid of the others.
My bet for next booted off the island is Gervase-lazy, sexist parasite, or Rudy-grumpy, cantankerous coot who doesn't pull his own weight.
I was glad Gretchen went because the show can still surprise me.
My vote for winner-Greg

If anyone out of the alliance had any sense, they would organize the rest of the tribe to kick out Richard who is the spine of the alliance. Without him, the rest of his group wouls break up and re-form with others. Rudy wont bow out, because he said: "Sometimes you have to get dirty" he was initially against voting alliances, but now knows its his best chance.

I assume you are aware of the photo that "proved" Gretchen was the next off, and that Gevaise was wearing the necklace. Check out http://www.survivorsucks.com. In the NEWS section there are some amusing attempts to analyze the photographic evidence. Perhaps it was more amusing before last night's episode, but still worth a giggle.

OK, I got sucked into this damn show the last two weeks despite my hatred for reality TV, so here's my take on last night's episode:
Before the two tribes merged, the strategy was to vote off the weakest members so that your tribe remained strong. However, now that the tribes have merged the stragety has reversed. You now need to vote off the stongest people because they are a threat to everyone else who could be beaten in an immunity challenge. The voting alliance probably would have voted off Greg, since he posed the biggest threat, but he had immunity. So the next logical person was Gretchen. She was strong, smart, and would probably kick everybody's ass in the next challenge if she was still there.
The only hope for the rest of the group is to band together to break up Richard's alliance. If they don't do it soon, they will not have enough people left to challenge the alliance and they will be dropped one by one until only the alliance remains. Things will get really interesting when that happens.

I dont think last nights challenge was fair.
Women by nature do not have the lung capacity that men do. Maybe the next challenge will be : "Who has the biggest feet?" the women wont win that one either.

I strongly dislike Richard. I dunno, his arrogance annoys me. And he's just devious. I don't like that.
Here's hoping the rest of the tribe figure out who the alliance is (not too hard,) and vote Richard or Sue off collectively next week. Break that alliance, you're golden. They'll start to panic and won't vote together.
I hope Greg will win. He amuses the hell out of me. "AND THAT ACCENT!" heh.

Gretchen being voted off last night was a COMPLETE surprise to me. I guess I just hadn't thought about the reversal--that now they want to get rid of the strong people. Even though I have mixed feelings about Greg, he comes off as just non-threatening enough to be the winner.
I agree that the challenge wasn't fair either. Maybe they will do something to make up for it, like who has the smallest feet!
I thought the preview for next week showed Greg giving Colleen the heave-ho and hitting on Richard, not Rich hitting on Greg. I find it funny that even though Rich is 'naked a lot', nobody has voted him off. When I heard he was going around naked, I thought that was a HUGE mistake. I really like him, though, and I'm rooting for him to win. Maybe it will come down to Greg vs. Rich and Greg will have been just a little too weird to win.

Richard bugs the shit out of me too. He's too damn cocky and arrogant. It's one thing to form alliances. That's not the problem. He's just an ass. If I was one of the other members of the alliance I would go team up with everyone else and get richard the hell out of there.

I think you are the only one who thinks that. My understanding of snorkelling is that you have a tube thing to breath through (the snorkel) and you don't actually have to hold your breath. Therefore, he had as much chance as any of the other men.
I also understand that men have a larger lung capacity, so I don't think that the challenge was very fair to the women.

Against my better judgment, I've gotten hooked on the show the past month or so. I missed half of last night's episode because I was on the phone, but was there a reward challenge other than the two ambassadors heading off to negotiate the second half of the series?
And, four bottles of wine between the two of them, and they didn't hook up? Wow.
Listening to the radio this morning, I found out that Colleen (aka, the cute one) used to work at a restaurant that's a five minute walk from my apartment. Hubba hubba.
and I realize they're on a tropical island. But is Jenna wearing the bikini all the time to keep the males from voting her off?
Male survivor thoughts before vote: "We should get rid of Jenna. But damn! Her briefs keep riding up her butt!"
I really think they should've had two Survivor shows: one with all male castaways, the other female. Then the hanky-panky factor would be cut out. (Unless there's some lesbian liasons, which would make it all the more watchable. [Hey, I said I wasn't a prude!])

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.
ALL women have tickle fights with each other behind closed doors.
They giggle, get all sweaty, and fall to a crumpled heap on the floor (or bed) in a tangle of arms and legs.

I thought the preview for next week showed Greg giving Colleen the heave-ho and hitting on Richard, not Rich hitting on Greg.
I thought that's what they said, too. But upon reflection, I think that what they meant was that Greg wants to make friends with Richard to avoid being voted off (he must know who's in the alliance) or join the alliance.

While snorkeling does use the snorkel, I think the earlier point was Richard was the one that has been doing the spear fishing.
Now imagine that the water is somewhat deep so he swims around with the snorkel looking for something to eat. He spots it and swims down to spear it. From this point he cannot breathe air, he swims down for 8 or 9 ft or so and begins to follow his prey. He gets close and spears it and then has to swim back to the surface and the snorkel is full of water and so he has to come up to breathe. He likely has to hold his breath for more than 1 minute to be as successful as he has. Remember that Greg went spear fishing and all he caught was a sea urchin (not a fast mover), so maybe the earlier poster has a point.
Am I the only one that thinks Richard is hoarding some food somewhere. His group has had little more than rice for 20 days and he is still chubby.
I think he is arogant to, but I cannot stand Greg. I would have killed him by now with all his acting crazy and stuff.
Rudy will probably win.
Also, would you have gone back after having eaten lobster and drank wine all night and then told the others who have not had anything worth eating for 20 days? I certainly would not have. I would have said they gave us rice like the rest of the group. They were just asking to be voted off by telling that.

Gretchen was the schoolteacher, right? Did anyone notice when they voted Joel off a week or two ago that when she wrote his name on the paper, she wrote a backwards "J" ???
Was this:
a.) a comment oon his intelligence?
b.) unavoidable as she is dyslexic?
c.) a by-product of being underfed and overworked for 15 days?
any thoughts?

People on some of the other message boards (here's (http://www.realworldblows.com) the one I've been occasionally lurking at) have been reading a lot into every little detail. As far as Gretchen's backwards J, the theory that emerged was that she was writing upside down for some reason (for benefit of the camera and/or to disguise writing) and she accidentally flipped it.
StrTrkr777
07-13-2000, 02:11 PM
Yeah, IIRC, she did write his name upside down, probably for the camera and to hide her handwriting, so she probably did invert it accidentally.
I thought is was kind of funny when the rafting guide (Kelly?) got all mad that Gervaise had beaten her in the rowing event and started crying. I mean no offense to her, but he looks like a pretty strong guy and eventhough she guides rafts for a living, did she really expect to be able to out paddle him? At least Susan did not cry when Joel beat her out on the spear throwing.

Mundane musings:
1) I think the "ambassadors" would have scored BIG points had they saved at least 2 bottles of wine to share with the group later. (No one had to know they had 4 to begin with) Good will goes a long way, people.
2) I agree they were jerks for bragging about the dinner. I would have voted them off for being so insensitive.
3) If they have no luxuries, then why aren't Jenna's pits hairy????

I had thought about them bringing back goodies to the folks, but I figured that the PTB would not let them take any wine or anything like that back.
Besides Sean was trying to get her liquored up to hit the homerun that they were discussing.

Here's my theory on why Greg will be the next one voted off next week. I've seen a picture with Gervase wearing a necklace and eight other tribe members in the area, suggesting that he has immunity in the the next vote.
http://www.survivorsucks.com/images/stills/tribalcouncil.large.jpg
According to a Headline News clip, Greg wins the next reward challenge. I think that will clearly make Greg a threat, causing the Alliance to vote against him. While the Alliance still does not have a majority, Sean stated in the last episode that he's voting alphabetically. While Gervase is next, he'll have immunity, forcing a fifth and majority vote for Greg.
Of course, in order for my theory to work, the Alliance must still remain in tact, Sean should continue voting without a clear strategy, and Greg should be perceived as a threat. I guess we'll wait until next Wednesday to find out.

I think Richard and crew know that Greg is the leader of the ex-Pagongers. However, they couldn't eliminate him, so they had to go with Gretchen.
If Greg doesn't convince the 5 non-alliance people to vote as a bloc, then Richard's alliance will just eliminate the Pagongers and Sean one by one.
www.survivorsucks.com has boards which cover all of this in great detail. Please, keep spoilers to yourselves though. I'd rather find out for myself.

3) If they have no luxuries, then why aren't Jenna's pits hairy????
My sister and I had a talk about that. She thought it was suspicious, I thought that since a good wax job usually lasts each of us most of the summer, and they've only been there 3 weeks (although it's obviously been longer from the viewers point of view), the wax job is still holding.
While they were tying ropes last night, it did look like some of the girls are starting to grow armpit hair.
kellibelli
07-13-2000, 08:00 PM
I could see bug bite scabs on Coleens legs last night. One of the men brought a razor, maybe he shared? You probably got the wax thing right though....they knew they were gonna be on TV for everyone to see, I am sure they planned for hair growth.
Here is a question:
How are they dealing with periods??
Nutty Bunny
07-13-2000, 08:31 PM
About the shaving: I agree with the waxing theory, but they were all allowed to bring one luxury item to the island. A razor would be a luxury to me at that point.
However, the menstration issue had me wondering last night, too. They've been there for 21 days. If all of the women had their periods right before getting there, then they haven't had to deal with it yet. But chances are at least one of them has. On second thought, I really don't want to know. Too much info.

Women's cycles will syncronize when they spend alot of time together. When one of them starts to menstruate, they all will.

I'm almost positive that tampons, anti-diarrheal medicine, and condoms are provided for the contestants.
Here's an excert from Entertainment Weekly regarding stuff they were provided with:
"Survivors get an unlimited stash of suntain lotion (50 SPF), bug repellent, tampons, anti-diarrhea tablets, iodine, Band-Aids, aspirin, contact lens solution, hand sanitizers, personal medications, and yes, condoms."
And, Sean's personal item that he brought was a shaving kit. Maybe he shared with the ladies?
