View Full Version : Just another workplace rant

I'm knee-deep in mounds of data entry. Repetitive data entry.
Everyone in the office had to make a report of their media "hits" they had to do throughout the year. Well, now I have to take all that data and stick it into a special program. Redoing work anyone? Couldn't we just stick the icons onto everybody's desktops?
There's hundreds of hits! And to make me resent it more, this is the first year this job has been dumped on me. I hate it. Hate it! I'm tired of typing shit like this in:
3/01/05 WPTZ NBC EF 605 Franklin All sponsors 43 Franklin
over and over and over and over and over and over and over....
Please, tell me someone else is also suffering! Aaargh!

Can't you copy and paste?

Can't you copy and paste?
Nope. I mean, some things, but the program has fields, and each field has to be filled in for each entry. So 3-1 has a field, 3-2, 3-3, etc.
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Maybe the boss thinks you are outstanding in your field. :p

Possible to import from an excel sheet or anything?

Might I suggest lots of coffee, headphones and some loud rock and roll? That usually makes my tedious data entry more tolerable.

Nope....it's originally in a Word document. Major
Cheeseteak, you certainly may and thank you, I'm doing exactly that although not the rock and roll. Just some personal favorites.

If it's in Word, it can be imported to Excel, and once in Excel, it can be used to autopopulate fields. Data in computer documents should never have to be entered twice. But your supervisor probably doesn't care about that. He's got you to do the trained monkey work. {insert yet another rolleyes here}
My seasonal job is repetitive data entry, too, but I like the people a lot, the pay is fantastic, I come and go as I please, and there is virtually no stress at all. It just seems like you can't have everything.

Outsource it to me. I'm serious. I was downsized last Tuesday so my job could be sent to India. I'll do anything, I can't afford to be as picky as you.

I'm sorry to hear about your job being sent to India, really I am. However I don't think the last snippy comment was necesary. I do my job, this just isn't part of my job. And I'm doing it, aren't I? If we're not allowed to complain then that's just crazy.

Well, lorinda, a good friend scolded me a little for being snarky toward you, so I apologize. I don't think I was snarky at all, actually, but I was a little short on understanding. Hope things work out for you.

Yeah that sounds pretty mundane and pointless to me.
