View Full Version : Midget Raid?
I'm currently reading Erskine Childer's The Riddle of the Sands which was written around the turn of the century. It contains a reference to some small sandy islands which are claimed to be perfect for "midget raids". What are they- a small raiding party? Midget submarines?
And I've already come up with my own smart-alecky answers.

Miniature raids....raids on a small scale. What Evans Carlson and the 2nd Marine Raider Battalion did at Makin Island in August, 1942.
They didn't have effective midget submarines at the turn of the century.
I figured that's what they were but it doesn't quite make sense in terms of the context of the book- maybe I need to finish reading it for it to make sense.

Midget Raid? Isn't that the product exterminators use to rid your home of annoying midgets?
