Okay, gillygirl, good show! Now part two of the examination. Can you handle the following challenges?
A
numbered
list
A quotationcontaining another quotation
Some funky formatting:
Pow! Whap! Kapow! Bang Bang!
a mathematical formula
(a + b)2 = a2 + 2ab + b2
and your final challenge: a smiley with a person rolling his/her eyes. Only by "running the gauntlet" will you be admitted as a vB code (http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/index.php?action=bbcode) ninja master.

Well, my mother taught me that showing off was tacky...

DDG, I'm not showing off! to quote the wonderful Garrison Keillor, it's "extravagance, magnificent extravagance."

and gillygirl, if you ever want to know how some other poster did something (like Arnold above did) you can click on the "reply with quote" button in their message, and the part in your reply window will show all the code. ;)

gillygirl, I take off my hat to you. You've passed the vBcode challenge! (puts on party hat and blows noisemaker) And without cheating! I'm very impressed.
The superscripts and subscripts were actually not a fair question, since that's a little "extra" added at the SDMB, so you don't see it explained on the vBcode page. And you figured that out too!
Welcome to the SDMB. I hope you like it here.

Thanks! Now that I actually know how to work this stuff I think I will like it better! Life's little victories :)
