It's cold

It's cold. It's raining. I'm making soup.

Well, heating it anyway. I've had some French onion soup from Trader Joe's in my freezer that I've been saving for a day like this. I've just put it in the oven, and I'll be eatin' happy in under an hour. :)

It was pretty hot today in the Boston area. 80 something degrees. I thought that I was going to pass out picking apples in my fall clothes.

I keep Tomato Bisque from Safeway (gourmet selection) for just such an occassion. That, a fresh baguette, dollop of sourcream and some chives makes for a hearty and soul warming meal in just the kind of weather you're having.

SOUP! Soup is great, especially on cold and rainy days. I love soup on days like those; in general I have to be in the mood for it though, which isn't often. Depends on the soup, of course, but if I'm not in a "soup mood" I won't want any.

I was in a "soup mood" today so I made a homemade version of the house special soup from a local Chinese place - chicken broth, chicken breast, shrimp, water chestnuts, bamboo shoots and green peas all simmered together - then right before serving add fresh mushrooms, snow peas and broccoli. Mmmmmmmmmmmm....

You lucky so-and-so. After a few teaser chilly days, it is back to the mid-eighties here for a while. I cannot wait to start wearing my sweaters again, but nature is not on my side...
