View Full Version : The Sims 2; i finally caught a trashcan kicker in the act

one of the random events in TS2 is a townie who randomly runs by and deliberately kicks over your outside trashcan , spilling garbage onto your lot, increasing the chances for roaches

most of the time when the Sims wake up, the can's on it's side with a pile of garbage attracting the flies

tonight, i had on the picture-in-picture camera, and around midnight it showed me an outside view of the trashcan on it's side, with a red blur running from it...

i paused the game and caught the perp. fleeing the scene, the little brat Alvin Futa

so, he needed to be punished, i built a small ground floor 4x4 room, wallpapered it in stone, and put the black loft windows in it, it's about as close to a jail cell i could get

Futa has been found guilty of domestic mischief and destruction of property, he has been sentenced to life imprisonment with no parole, *and* he has to live with the pile of garbage he created....

i entered the Move_Objects on cheat and dropped him in his jail cell, along with his "cellmate" the pile of garbage he created, he's now pacing the cell and crying his eyes out....

well, Futa, you have no one to blame but yourself, if you didn't make the voluntary *choice* to kick over Daniela's trash can, you wouldn't be doing time in a pile of your own garbage now would you.....

no, you're not going to be let out, we take a dim view of criminal activity here in Caprica Prime.....

I played The Sims only once like five years ago, but for some reason your post had me laughing out loud. I hope the little sh*t learns his lesson... maybe he'll find Jesus somewhere in all that trash... Uh... nevermind.

Anyway, well done.

i doubt he wil learn, sadly...

why?

well, lets just say he won't be kicking over any more trashcans anymore....

but you know the worst part, after all of that, i only got $150 for selling his tombstone off, i'm tellin ya' , the game's a real cheapskate...

oh well, i found a more effective jail cell anyway, instead of walls, just make it out of those glass fence modules, the perp can see all the suff they're missing out on, and can't climb over the fence

The google ads are great. 3 for trash cans and one for "Prison Rape Elimination The Omni View is the only prison design that meets law #108-79"

How much did your prison cell cost? Did you make a profit off of the tombstone?

Tell us if anyone else comes and kicks over your can.

Was it worth him doing it just so you could catch him doing it?

Another random event that I finally pegged was them looking out their window. For the longest time, I'd catch them just standing in front of a window, with a window icon in their action queue, but I couldn't figure out exactly what they were doing. As soon as I'd go to mouse over the icon, it'd disappear for some other thing.

Of course, it turned out to be something as mundane as "Look Through [Window]" but I thought it was pretty cool.

And the garbage scavenging... I guess I never had a Sim sloppy enough to have that option available until recently, but man does he ever enjoy rooting around in the trash.

You KILLED him?

A kid got the death penalty for mischief? He increased you chances for roaches and you killed him.

Now I want to get the Sims so I can have a SIM ACLU.

I have a question.

I just started playing Sims 2 so I haven't learned all the ropes yet, so forgive if this is a dumb question.

What is the deal with normally nice people coming over and bitchslapping my Sims?
The matriarch of my community, a very lovely sweet lady named Astrid Glycerine, is very welcoming to all guests in her home. She has made friends with almost everyone in town as long as I'm playing her home. But when I play other homes she will come by almost on daily basis and commence to fighting everyone, even teens she's never been introduced to. If you invite her over she's fine.

I hate to kill her off since she was my first Sim but this has to stop!

And my trashcan kicker is the townie named Komei. He reads the paper some days, other days he kicks my trashcan.

I haven't played The Sims 2, but in the first one, I would have a lot of fun creating large families, trapping them in their simple home, and watch as one of the children's attempt at cooking dinner turns into a tragic 4 alarm fire that claimed the lives of the entire family.

Good times.

Tiggrkitty liked to remove the ladder from the pool while her sims were swimming so they couldn't get out, and greatly enjoyed watching them drown.

More good times.

he's a convicted criminal, criminals are a drain on Sim society, a waste of resources, therefore, they don't get fed....

we have very strict, draconian, crime punishments in my Sim society, one strike and you're out, no appeals

commiting a crime is a *voluntary* decision, the Sim has to *choose* to commit a crime, if they didn't make that decision, they wouldn't be in the situation they're in now, starving to death in prison

so far, it's been worth it, i've been playing for a month or so, and have only had *one* house burgled, and that burgular is no longer among the Simulated either

Do your Sims have a telescope?

I'm afraid your sims are good for nothing peeping toms* - poor Astrid was caught in the nude and came over for vengence.

It's not her fault, the poor dear.

That's what I like to do. I hooked up Darren Dreamer with one of my Sims, they had twins, and then I got bored of him so I let him go for a swim and took out the ladder so he drowned. Then he came back and haunted his widow and twins, and dripped water all over the house at the same time.

I think I'm going to burn a few Sims tonight. I'm feeling somewhat violent this week.

Hmm, the only person my Sims have ever peeped on was Mortimer. I can't figure out what's so fascinating about a crabby old widower, but they just love to keep an eye on him.

I also discovered recently that if a Sim is writing in their diary, and someone they don't have a very high score with walks in the room, they'll gasp and clasp the book to their chest. I think that's hilarious.

Now wait just a minute! I had a very valid reason to off that family. When they were suppose to go to work, they were in the pool. They didn't eat, sleep, go to the bathroom or anything else except swim in the pool. I was constantly fighting them to sleep, eat, clean up etc.

So, after much frustration, I removed the ladder. They swam until they couldn't swim anymore. Problem resolved.

It was gratifying to see the last one drown after causing so much grief.

If you had to pick between two, so far I'd recommend Nightlife over University, however University also has a few features in it that I would hate to be without; namely the ability to get degrees (and therefore get jobs in fields that are otherwise unavailable, as well as start jobs higher up the chain than unedumacated Sims). There's also the additional wants that going to University makes available, which helps out a lot. The downfall to Uni is that the additional gameplay can get a little repetitive after a while...

There's also the additional wants that going to University makes available, which helps out a lot. The downfall to Uni is that the additional gameplay can get a little repetitive after a while...
Other University features worth having:
Lifetime wants are awesome - fulfill a lifetime want and your Sim is platinum forever. Lifetime wants include Become Criminal Mastermind, Become Captain Hero, Marry Off 3 Children, Graduate 3 Children From University, Celebrate Golden Anniversary, Max Out 7 Skills, Have 20 Simultanious Lovers. Their lifetime want is chosen randomly when they pick their aspiration and should relate to their aspiration.

The "Hang Out" interaction is invaluable for teens and young adults. A group of them can lounge around talking and it's a quick way to make and improve friendships.

Musical Instruments. In addition to the piano that comes with the standard game, University adds a drum kit, guitar and bass guitar which your Sims can play solo or as a group. They are very fun and so your Sims enjoy playing them. The downside is that - even in their own homes - when they autonomously start using them, they go with the Perform option which means they put out a tip jar, and then it takes the cursed things ages to check for tips when you tell them to stop playing.

The Ressurect-O-Nomitron lets you bring back people from the dead for a price. Scrimp and you'll get a zombie.

The antique camera lets you take photos of your sims that can be hung on walls or you can stand them on tables. This is awesome because you can capture moments with it like you can with the paintings, but you don't have to wait forever for them to finish it.

My Showbiz sims always want plastic surgery when they become elders, and I'm only too happy to oblige. My Sims will shortly be featured on AwfulPlasticSurgery.com. In the world of aging beauties trying desperately to cling to their youth, lips and eyes can never be too big. Gorgeous.

Very true, and an admirable system. But with one disadvantage—you don't get to keep them alive on starvation rations, existing for only to suffer for your amusement, in a ghoulish half-life.

Someone really needs to make a SimGibbet.

Well, i made another house, inspired by the SA article linked above, and on the fourth floor, i'm building a "labratory" to perform evil experiments on Sims, and created a horribly disfigured Sim (Reg Shoe) (looks similar to Marduk in the article, but with the alien skin tone and black eyes) to seduce a cloned/age accelerated Juliette and Hermia Capp, after a whirlwind romance, Hermia is now pregnant with Reg's babies (yep, she's carrying twins, should be really interesting, to say the least, to see what the end results will be....)

i walled off a section of the room with the "plexiglass" fencing, and used the InSimenator hack (a multipurpose hack that allows you to control almost everything in the game) to teleport over 2 of the NPC burgulars, when they're 'ported over they don't burgle the place, they act like normal sims, i used the moveobjects cheat to drop them behind the plexiglass partition, and i put the cheapest fridge and a microwave in the partition, just to keep them alive, i wanted to see how long it took before they were at each other's throats

problem is, Juliette (yep, messing up Veronaville....) wanted to get to the cheapo-fridge to make *her* dinner, even though she has the *top-of-the-line* fridge in the kitchen on the ground floor....

so i had to delete the thieves, the fridge, and the microwave, all because little Ms Juliette was too frakkin lazy to go down one floor to the *good* fridge, NOOOO, she wanted food out of the hideous green monstrosity

later on, that afternoon, i noticed another cool little random event that makes the game feel so "alive"....

Juliette was in the shower, enjoying a nice relaxing shower, when Reg came into the bathroom, he went over to the tub, as he turned on the water to fill the tub, Juliette screamed in shock, and *jumped* out of the shower, turned and glared at Reg, then ran over to scold him....

.....turns out when Reg turned on the hot water for the tub, Juliette got hit with a blast of cold water, and she didn't take kindly to this....

Heh, putting tiny little details in like this is what makes the game so damnned addictive....

I've been trying to get some of my Sims to spy on Mortimer in order for him to come slap them. The purpose being to watch him not get to his target. You see, the telescope is on a balcony and whenever anyone uses it during the day I remove the balcony's door! :D

Well, the Gallumbits family (Eccentrica and her two daughters) got burgled, cop caught the burgular, i paused the game to determine the name of the crook, once he was arrested, i decided to "take the law into my own hands" as i have no confidince in SimCity's Finest

i created a 1X1 box out of the clear plexiglass fencing material on the front lawn, used the InSimenator to beam the burgular over, paused the game, and used Move_Objects On to drop him in his standing-room-only cell, he has no room to walk, the only thing he can do is rotate in place and stamp his foot in frustration and cry, he's on display for the whole town to see, as a *visible* deterrent to crime....

"don't want to end up like this?, then *DON'T COMMIT CRIMES!*, Caprica has a *ZERO TOLERANCE* policy on crime..."

Yeah, but if you don't feed him, he'll die before he generates a knee-deep pile of trash and his own waste that he's forced to stand in as he prays for a death that will never come, denied even the escapes of suicide or catatonic insanity.

I suggest putting the next one in a 1x2 cell, with one of the tiles taken up by a small table, on which you can deposit starvation rations a couple of times a day.

I have been playing with Nightlife the last week or so, and have been having a problem with it. I call up a Sim, invite them over, they show up, I greet them, and they say "Oh, look at the time!" and leave. Doesn't matter what time of the day it is, they leave right after saying hi. Occasionally, if I call a second time and invite them, they will come over and stay. This is very annoying. :dubious:

Hmm, sounds like a close relation to the Headmaster bug, where if you invited him over for dinner before 5 pm (which meant he'd come the same day) he'd show up, and then leave right away, saying that the family wasn't the quite the school wanted to associate with. But if you called him again immediately after he left, he'd come back and stay.

Does it happen with more than one family? I think (not positive) that the headmaster bug was somehow tied to the lot, or in some way structured that moving to a different lot would fix it for me.

I made the same mistake - excellent laptop all around, but I didn't put much thought into the graphics card. (To be honest, I'm not very up to date on what the specs of a good graphics card is.) And of course, being a friggin LAPTOP, I can't fix the problem.

Been thinking about getting a strong desktop anyway, so if I do, I can guarantee that the graphics card will be up to par. I don't have a lot of problem with gameplay itself but I can barely stand going downtown sometimes, because of the major load times.

The box says 32mb and "...or more memory and one of these T&L capable chipsets: ATI Radeon 7200 or greater; NVIDIA GeForce2 or greater". Also DirectX 9.0 compatable.

My card is an nVidia GeForce4 440 GO, and it's not strong enough to offer full functionality in the Sims 2 - I can't see any of the special event movies, can only invite 2 people over to parties, and it bogs down a bit in the downtown situations where there are many people milling around. My work computer had the exact same specs as this one, except a stronger video card (can't remember which now, but it was also an nVidia) and it handled the game perfectly, with full functionality. So, don't get the 440 GO - it simply isn't powerful enough.

MacTech
10-08-2005, 01:38 PM
also, bear in mind, the "minimum" specs are just that, *minimum*, just enough to get the game running

if you want to see all the extra "eye candy", you *need* a better vidcard, i'd consider a vidcard with 64-128MB of vidram a *minimum*, none of this "32 MB" crap, that's just bull-dren, and the vidcard needs to have a relatively current GPU core (nVidia 6200+, ATI Radeon 9200+)

apparently, this game is more render-intensive than the latest version of Quake, look for a machine that can handle the latest version of Quake or Unreal Tournament, and you'll be set...

i finally found a good use for the burgulars.....

i tend to take the "lazy" approach to placing new houses in my lots, i simply export the house i want to use to a file, and re-import that house, it shows up in the houses bin all furnished and everything....

the problem is, i now have a duplicate family living in it, and if i move them out, they take all the furnishings with them

now, if a family dies, the furnishings are left intact, ready for the next family to move in, so what i have been doing is "assisting" the cloned family to the other side, i set their aspirations to Platinum, then select the "Die of old age" with the InSiminator hack

when a Sim dies with a platinum aspiration, they (to quote the Klingon philosophy) "die well" and get the "good" Grimmy animation, (he shows up wearing a Lei, has a pair of Hula dancers with him, Hawaiian Hula music plays in the background, and he offers the dying Sim a tropical drink to refresh them as they pass over) and their ghost is benevolent....

still, i feel bad killing off the family, even if they are duplicates, so now i do it a better way.....

i teleport in a burgular (when the burgular is "beamed in", they don't burgle the placem they act like a normal guest), i then add them to the family, i then move out the *real* family, then kill off the burgular (current favorite method is "Death by Satelitte")

same end result, a furnished home all ready for the new family, and i didn't have to kill the clone family, and as an added side benefit, i'm down one burgular to boot, everybody wins! (well.....everyone except the burgular, but they don't count, criminals have no rights in my SimCity universe)

I found a good way to get back at a burglar recently too. I noticed that with Nightlife, my sims "met" the burglar when he robbed them. For some strange reason, their relationship score with him increased (even though they were "furious" with him). One of my sims' daughters, who was a teen at the time, became attracted to him when she became a young adult. Once she was done being furious, I had her seduce the burglar, do the WooHoo with him in a photo booth, and then flirt with another guy right in front of him. I actually may have had her marry him eventually, but she wanted to marry a rich sim and was attracted to Mortimer. I had her marry him and they now have a child together.
I have also noticed with Nightlife that there's a lot more garbage can kicking. Seems when someone is furious with you, they often come over to kick over your garbage can. On the other hand, I've gotten some pretty cool gifts after dream dates. One guy gave my sim a pinball machine! She was really short on money at the time, so I sold it.

Heh, can't wait until NL is released for the Mac, the problem is, since i'm a fan of Vampires, i can see entire towns becoming "Embraced/Turned", the Human sims will become a definite minority, as the Undead sims will be *everywhere* (They're *everywhere*, man, game over, man, game over!)

it also gives me new opportunities for dispatching criminals, find out the burgular's name, then beam him over after he's arrested, have one of my Vampire sims turn him......

then plop him outside in the plexiglass 1x1 "cell" and watch him fry, crispy burgular!

I know i've been posting an inordinate amount about TS2, but i keep finding little touches in it that make it cool.....

one family i'm playing, an unwed mother with a child by Don Lothario (momentary indescretion....), and she's Woohoo-ing with her new love interest, after the woohoo, the kid *runs* into the bedroom, yells at the love interest, yells at his mother, then starts sobbing uncontrollably (he *knew* the man Mommy was with was not his father, he new she was being "unfaithful" to him.....

he *hates* Mommy's new boyfreind now....

i'm also playing the gold-digging Caliente sisters (one's pregnant via Don L.), and the other one has succesfully seduced Mortimer Goth.....

turns out the Caliente house is haunted by the ghost of Nina's last conquest (a rich senior citizen), and he's *quite* irate about Nina "Gittin 'er Done" ;) with another rich senior citizen, no sooner had Nina and Mort finished WooHoo then the ghost of her past hubby appeared to each of them, scaring each quite badly, i think Mort lost a few days of life, in fact....

now every evening the ghost is wandering the lot moaning in sadness about Nina's indiscretion, and yelling in rage, balling his fists up and punching them into each other, if it wasn't for his non-corporeal body, he'd be beating up Mort every chance he gets, as it stands now, he makes life miserable for any male visitor to the Caliente house.....

the Maxis programmers worked overtime on this one.....

If your game is too slow, try this (it helped me IMMENSELY):

1. turn off all virus scanning programs. MCAfee, etc.

2.
End background processes in Windows XP:

Press and hold Ctrl, Alt and Delete, then release the keys.
Choose to bring up the Task Manager (if it is not automatic).
Click on the Processes tab.
Click on the column heading called User Name (this will organize the list).
Now check for your user name or the word owner in the User Name list.
For every item next to that name (EXCEPT FOR EXPLORER.EXE and TASKMGR.EXE) click on it, click on End Process, and then click on Yes.
When only EXPLORER.EXE and TASKMGR.EXE are left next to your user name, close the window.

Be careful doing that. I have a couple of things on that list for my keyboard and mouse. If I delete them, things stop working correctly.

I've been using Don Lothario as a one-man sperminator for Pleasantview. I heard on other fan boards that he makes pretty babies, so he's knocked up Kaylynn the hott maid, Cassandra Goth, Dina and Nina Caliente, and a random Sim I created named Angelina.

Dina seduced and married Mortimer Goth when she realized she was in a family way. I'm thinking I'll hook Cassandra Goth up with Darren Dreamer. Kaylynn the maid had actually moved in with old Don, and she caught him boning Nina, and moved out in a huff. I had her move in with Brandi Broke, two single moms pooling their resources, and now they're a very happy lesbian family.

I actually turn off most services on my computer via instructions I got on freeing up resources for another game I play (Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines). It's a bit more complicated, requires a reboot, and won't allow you to get any downloaded from the Sims site within the game. I have XP...

1. Click Start, Run.
2. Type in msconfig and hit Enter to bring up the System Configuration Utility.
3. On the General tab, choose Selective Startup, and uncheck Load System Services and Load Startup Items.
4. On the Services tab, check Plug and Play and Windows Audio. Leave other options as is.
5. Click OK, let it work. It should come back up asking for a reboot.
6. Reboot, and the System Configuration Utility will come back up with a message that you've changed it. Just cancel out of it, and start up your game.

When you're finished playing and want to restore your configuration, just follow steps 1 and 2 again, but this time, choose Normal Startup on the General tab and click OK. Reboot, and you're back to normal.

An update on my burglar: I killed him. The mother of the other sim who seduced him was in the mood for some WooHoo (she's a widow), so I hooked her up with old Russ. She wanted to marry him, so I thought why not? Right after the wedding, I built him a nice little cell. Took forever for him to die. The whole time, his wants included "have baby." Shouldn't have married an elder then, you moron.

I do have a question for you guys. I had the elder sim mentioned above move in with her son to help with the kids, so they could buy a bigger house. When they moved, I moved her husband's tombstone to her inventory, and put it in the new backyard. Then a second tombstone appeared on the front lawn, and it says it's his. When I came back to the game another time, the second tombstone was gone. Anyone else have this happen? I haven't seen poor Leo's ghost since this happened.
