I was surprisingly very moved by tonight's episode. The way the entire staff dealt with Meredith's mother was sensitive and thoughtful. I particularly liked the end scene where one of her colleagues was gently helping her get to sleep while he pretended to be her mother's husband.

I hope the show sticks around.

Since it's on right after "Desperate Housewives", it's likely to stick around for the rest of the season. It did much better than expected last season.

The only thing I dislike about the show is the opening title sequence.

The interns are all a little too old, but we'll have to live with that.

I don't pay really close attention - but have they ever explained what the various characters were doing when they were (for lack of a better word) traditional intern age?

Poor George.

I think we're just supposed to believe that all the characters are in their early 20s, when they all look to be in their early 30s.

Well, you figure the average age for someone in a program like the one they're in would be mid to late 20s (graduate undergrad at 21-22, finish four years of medical school... so minimum around 25 when they start, even if they cut a year off of undergrad with all of that brilliance). I'd agree that the characters generally look in their early 30s, give or take - some are more believable as 26 to me (especially Izzy), while some are less (especially Meredith). With a quick look at IMDB, the actors are all in their low to mid 30s, with the exception of... Izzy (Katherine Heigl), who is actually a couple months short of 27.

Other than Meredith, I can mostly buy the 5-10 years we're supposed to be magically erasing in our minds (Sorry Ms. Ellen Pompeo! You look great for your 35, I swear! It's just that you definitely don't look 26!)

It could just as easily be argued that a few of the doctors on the older end of the scale look too young (particularly the Shepherds) for people who are in the positions that they are in - though I honestly don't know what a reasonable expected age would be for them enough to say that for sure.
