I'm online for two minutes here.

There is a lot of crossover in this one, and it really wasn't intentional. Sorry. Before I fixed it, it was John Turturro for all actors on all three levels. Yikes.

Bill Murray was not in Charlie's Angels. (Not in this puzzle, anyway.)

Although I did know 3 actors before they became famous. When they (and I) were children, in fact. One of whom was the afore mentioned Phillip Seymour Hoffman.

I will also add that the Cradle Will Rock link is a pretty obscure one. While 95% of that cast consists of household names, the one actor necessary to complete the puzzle is someone unknown to me, and was only included because he/she provided the link.

John Edward thinks the name starts with a P. John Edward is a moron.

First of all, congrats! As far as Geoffrey Lewis, I'm assuming you checked the IMDB. He is a bit more haggard-looking than his picture, but he should look familiar to any movie fan. Mostly westerns, but appeared in many genres of film. He's one of those "oh, that guy!" actors.

Correct! Although it should be mentioned that want2know did the bulk of the work on this. But it's supposed to be a cooperative game, to props all around.

The hint I was going to drop was that in all of the missing elements there at the end, each movie in question was about 3 people (perfect for this game!), and that each missing actor was on of those three people.

Three Amigos.
Three Fugatives.
Thre safe crackers.
Three school skippers.

I'm glad you do! Seeing as how it filled 8 pages in less than 24 hours, I'd call it a success.

I actually just thought it up in a few minutes, although I wondered for weeks how I could turn Capricorn One into a game.

I was originally thinking of some sort of scavenger hunt/six degrees combo. One in which I would occasional drop new hints. Like "An actor mentioned in today's Globe was in a movie with an actor mentioned in a Pit thread from yesterday, with an additional hint in John Mace's sig line. That movie is not playing on A&E this week", or something like that. I wanted to plan it to last several weeks.

If someone wants to make up a game like that, I'll play it.

It wasn't that easy. Those movies with lots and lots of characters are tough, especially when you have to really dig through them. I don't know why I was having so much trouble with Doctor Detroit. Not to criticise your puzzle at all -- it was excellent -- but I've been trying for a certain pattern in my own level three movies. I've been going for movies where that not only include three actors, but those who have a special relationship to each other. In Capricorn One, for instance, I could have said OJ Simpson, Hal Holbrook, and David Huddleston, but instead chose the three astronauts. In Three Amigos, I chose the three Amigos. If the target movie was to be Hannah and Her Sisters, I probably would have made the three actresses the ones who played Hannah. And her two sisters.

I think it lends a certain elegance to the puzzle.

Once again, that's not to criticise anyone else's choices. It's just my roundabout way of saying that I really wanted to do The Princess Bride for my next puzzle. Except I would have chosen Wallace Shawn, Mandy Patenkin, and Andre the Giant. :)
