OK, now my friend is looking into becoming a host in a convention center's banquet hall. We are looking for any information about how to be a good server. Information on the etiquette rules such as where to place the fork, how to greet the guest, and why it isn't a good idea to throw a cream pie at an idiot, no matter how much he or she may deserve it, would be appreciated.

Are there any good web sites out there or should we make this up as we go along?

You probably can take the bold step of going to a public library and checking out a book on such a subject. You can find an etiquette book fairly easily.

If you want to buy one, I'm sure a bookstore (online or otherwise) sells titles on how to be a waiter. A lot depends on the type of serving you are going to do.

I doubt that this topic is well-suited to being researched online. A lot of the time, you have to ask somebody.
