I had some anchovies tonight in a salad and boy are they salty! I had some Marmite last year and it was plenty salty too. Which is saltier?

Anchovies packed in oil or in salt? I'm doing a little taste test now (on Polish rye bread). I'd say per gram, Marmite. Nasty stuff, though - I don't see how my wife prefers it to Vegemite.
If you're after the meatiness of anchovy and want to cut down on the salt a bit, you cn soak them in milk for a while, then rinse them.

Just had the pleasure of using canned Anchovies in olive oil and salt for the first time two weeks ago. They are far less salty than Marmite. I immagine to use Anchovies that are canned in salt allone you would rinse them first so I doubt even they would be as salty as marmite.
Off websites I see Salted Anchovies listed as 1.039 g Sodium per ounce, Marmite listed as 1.229 g Sodium per ounce.
