View Full Version : How would you get A&D ointment out of doll hair?

My neighbor's 4 year old squeezed the ointment in her mother's porcelain doll's hair. So far we've tried to wash it with soap and brush it out, but it's not coming out. Any other ideas?

Cornstarch or something to absorb some of the ooginess?

A&D is mostly petroleum jelly, isn't it? Have you tried laundry detergent? Or perhaps K2R (spot remover)?

Since I believe A&D is largely composed of petroleum jelly, I would recommend using some Dawn brand dishwashing liquid. The "grease cutting action" in Dawn has always worked well for me when having to remove gunky, vaseline-like substances or oils.

The google ad seems to think Butt Paste (and there's only one ad, it must be rather confident on this one) will work, but I don't think that's the ticket. As others have suggested, Dawn or laundry detergent. Otherwise I might suggest a solvent. Gas? Hmm, maybe something tamer for a doll. How 'bout acetone (nail polish remover) or rubbing alcohol or paint thinner. If you do try a solvent, you'll probably want to try it on a section of clean hair first. It wouldn't surprise me if it dissolved the hair. Otherwise what about hot water and something absorbant like newspaper?

I'd check the A&D website to see if they have any advice. Or, I would try WD-40. It has lifted both grease and crayon from my carpet.

Try a paste of water and washing soda. The latter is found in the laundry aisle, and is great for removing oil, grease, fat etc.

A&D ointment is thick and greasy so maybe if you poured a more liquid oil over it, that would help emulsify and slip most of the ointment out of the hair. Then, dust some cornstarch or talc over the hair to help soak up as much of the oil as possible. If there's any left, shampoo the hair with Dawn as many times as it takes to get the hair clean. Hope this helps.

I'll second the WD-40. It got a large petroleum jelly stain out of a shirt of mine.

Phewww!
When I read the Thread Title A&D ointment out of doll hair? I got a whole different kind of picture in my head. :D That's a relief!

Now that I know your doll isn't the infatable kind, I third the WD-40 suggestion.
