I was in New York on Friday night, and walked from GCT to Times Square. On the way I couldn't help but notice that they levelled an entire half block on 42nd Street right after Bryant Park.

Anyone know what they're building there?

P.S. It will be the 2nd tallest building in NYC, after the Empire States Building.

The link mentions that the antenna height will be 1200 feet. Is this building going to be the location of all those television and radio antennas that were lost when the WTC went down? Or is a special purpose transmission tower being built?

What a crock. This building will only have 50 occupied floors, and then a bigass antenna for the rest of the height. The ESB sticks its nose up and grunts.

FWIW, when the WTC was destroyed, most broadcast stations moved their transmission equipment back to the ESB, which is where it was before the WTC was built.

The radio is on, or will be on, 4 Times Square, which shares a block with this building. It also shares an owner, so there's not much competition, which would be the only reason to build two antennas on one block. Article on the 4 Times Square antenna.
