CNN story (http://www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/Music/12/05/abba.reut/index.html)

This comes as no surprise, really. The group once turned down an insane offer of $1 billion (http://www.musicinsight.com/node/view/28) to do 100 concerts.

They continue to make lots of cash from their records and DVDs. Plus, Benny & Bjorn are making a mint from Mamma Mia and their other musicals. Benny even said that Mamma Mia has made them more money than their records (they've sold over 350 million (http://www.mamma-mia.com/london/abbastory.asp) over the past 30 years, though the CNN story says 100 million. On one of their DVDs is a presentation of an award for 300 million).

Although I was never able to see them live (they came as cloase as Atlanta in 1979), I agree with their decision not to tour. I think a VH1 Storytellers or MTV Unplugged would be interesting, though.

No more fucking ABBA, then?

Only on box sets (a newer, bigger one is on the way). I rarely hear them on oldies stations anymore.

I had a dream once that I was in that video for Knowing Me, Knowing You where the chorus is set to shots of the band members' profiles and I climbed up one of the blonde's nostrils while I sang along.

Someone interpret this for me?

Sigh... I guess I'll have to abandon that dream, and hope for a big Bo Donaldson & the Heywoods reunion... or a big Bay City Rollers comeback tour.

Put them on a ticket with Hamilton, Joe Frank, and Reynolds and I'm there! :D

Not a surprise. Agnetha, for one, has been adamant about not reuniting for decades. I don't really blame the girls especially...there was a lot of bad feeling and liverchewing bitterness toward the end.

You really should. Lots of fun.

I hadn't seen it either until I ran across it while channel surfing and caught it in the middle. Now I have the DVD. :)

On EVE Radio one night, they seemed to be going for what I am assuming is the current European dance sound. Every single song sounded exactly like Abba, just with modern synthesizers and mixing. I couldn't decide whether Abba should feel cheated or proud to have been chosen as the premiere dance sound.

Mama Mia was a fun play.
