My first thought would be to run this sick sadistic son of a bitch over if I saw him walking through Edmonton. It would also be my second and third thought. I also wonder why the fuck they would even let this guy out on any kind of pass.
I do hope that the "wrong" people find him and hit him with the largest and heaviest object they can find.
On a related note I read an article that said another man was sentenced to four and a half years for participating in the abduction and gang rape of a woman.
WTF?

Thank you for unwittingly reinforcing all my prejudicial notions about naive Canadians, Feynn. What, you're upset because there's a sex offender at large? Must not happen very often in Edmonton, I guess. Granted, it doesn't happen very often here in the medium-sized Rust Belt Midwestern city where I live, either, but at least we don't get all outraged about it. So another one slipped the leash, huh? Just make sure you know where your kids and grannies are, and let it slide down to the bottom of the "Worry About This" list.
Got a news flash for ya, babe--down here, we've got sex offenders at large who got that way because their lawyers got them off in the first place, not because some Peace Officer screwed up by not putting them in leg irons for transport.
And your link thus unwittingly reinforces yet another of my prejudicial notions, the one about shy, tactful, "wouldn't say 'boo' to a goose" Canadians. It wouldn't have been tactful to put the guy in leg irons, eh?

BTW, this guy looks like one of my former therapists, but as FT had no hair, I think it highly unlikely. Plus his name (not that this means anything) wasn't Richard Ryan.

Well, since this board promotes fighting ignorance, I take offence to you stupid banal 'prejudicial notions'. Here is a thought: pull your head out of your ass, and learn a bit about Canada! You give decent non-ignorant Americans a bad name. You probably think we all drive a dog team to work too.
Spare me your self righteous 'American Superiority'. If the OP wants to express outrage and anger because a horrible offender is at large, I think its a worthy rant.
Apathy is destroying out world, maybe if more people cared, aww forget it! Nothing I say to you would make a damn bit of difference.

Feynn - I'm not sure I agree with your choice of running the bastard over with your car. I'm thinking something involving some pliers, a blowtorch and a couple of hours of playing "cook the wiener" would be in order. The same goes for the guy who only got four years . . .
Duck Duck Goose - I'm sorry that the fact that you are apparently living in the mid-west version of Sodom and/or Ghamorrah (sp.?) has made you look down your nose at people who can still be surprised and angered at something that is just plain wrong, no matter how often it happens.

Feynn: While I disagree with the idea of running anyone down, for the same reason I don't believe in the death-penalty or capitol-punishment, your outraqge is quite understandable.
Duck Goo: Listen up you feathered pig. There's a reason people are innocent there, it's because they can afford to be. And personally, I see that as a good thing. I can't understand why you'd think this way, but that's probably because I haven't lobotomized myself with an earwig.
Y'know why we can't be innocent here? Because our country is positively rife with assholes. I love Canada. Canada rocks. The U.S. sucks. And y'know what's even worse about it? It's full of arrogant pricks like you.
To sum it up:
In Canada you can afford to be innocent. Feynn is proof of that.
In the U.S. you can afford to be an ignorant asshole. Fuck Fuck Goober is proof of that.

I'm of the opinion that stoning of convicted rapists/murderers/dangerous offenders should be reintroduced to society. When Clifford Olsen(sp?) was moved to BC a lot of Vancouverites wanted him put on a street corner so they could have at him. I must agree.
"But this fugitive has one distinguishing feature that could give him away -- his nose. "It's prominent," said Garland. "It has a bump midway down, and it has a hook to it. ... Without surgery, it's the one thing he won't be able to change.""
My husband's nose is exactly like that. Could it be him?

Suo, the problem with that is, you can never actually prove that someone is guilty. You can only make a reasonable judgement based on the evidence. What if a whole bunch of people stoned him to death, and it turned out that he was innocent? You can reverse a judgement and take someone out of imprisonment, but death is rather permanent.

Aw, c'mon, Freak, I think "Fuck Fuck Goober" is a little harsh. "Fuck Fuck Asshole" maybe, but "Goober"? Where ya from, anyway? Is "goober" CaNAYjun for asshole, or are you using it in the American sense of simply "clueless idjit"?
Kelli, even if you hate my guts, you are still my favorite New Brunswickian. New Brunswonian? Nova Brunsoonian?
And a big "Hello from the Land of Lincoln" to all you other formerly chicken-hearted Canucks who finally, FINALLY got the balls to say "boo". WTG!
P.S. Can I borrow somebody's dog sled? Getting a little low on gas for the Dodge and we're out of milk.
P.P.S. Say, you know, I found a sense of humor laying on the floor over here in the corner--is anybody missing one? Beer Dog?
Couldn't be Feynn's, his seems to be in perfect working order.

Y'know, DDG, earlier today I thought about posting a "lighten up, it was a joke" comment, but I knew sooner or later you'd come back to the thread and defend yourself better than I could.
And Feynn: Yup. I hope the sick bastard gets what's coming to him real soon.

It's unclear why Ryan, who was considered at risk of escaping, was accompanied by only one corrections officer and wasn't handcuffed or shackled at the ankles.
=-=-=-=-=-
Yeah really. The guy's a "sadistic sex offender"? They could have at least borrowed a pair of his.
>Ryan was the 14th inmate to escape from the penitentiary
>since 1991.
Note to self... when planning extensive & vicious crime spree throughout Canada, be sure to get sentenced to Her Majesty's Penitentiary in the east end of St. John's.

On the suggestion of stoning sex offenders to death: You might want to consider some of the child sex abuse hysteria of the 1980's in which a good number of the cases consisted of baseless accusations and use of illegal methods by prosecuters. A good number, possibly even most, were later rescinded after the initial period had passed. Had these people been stoned to death as you seem to seriously suggest, this would be an even greater tragedy on the whole.
Plus, what if your husband was stoned to death just becasue he had a similar nose to a convicted sex offender only to later be found innocent? I do not think that you would support stoning people to death to quite as great of extent.

Ducky...
Saying "BOO" to a goose is just a dumb thing to do if your intention is to blast it and serve it as dinner. With that being said I think I will start duck hunting season a little early...
Shy and naive could possibly be the words least used to describe myself and your prejudicial statements just demonstrate your blant ignorance and prejudice. You could not have done better had you put up a 10 foot neon sign saying "DUCK DUCK GOOSE IS AN IGNORANT PREJUDICIAL ASSHOLE"
If you have become numb and indifferent to what happens in your backyard that's sad. I personally care what happens where I live. I have a wife and two daughters so have every reason to be concerned when law enforcement personel are so inept that they let someone this dangerous escape.
Where do people get the idea that we're all a bunch of delicate little flowers? Do you think we live in a society without it's share of pedophiles, rapists, and other scum? We want them roaming about just as much as anyone else does. I can't afford to be that innocent or that stupid to not care.
I hope that someone will recognize him and report his whereabouts to the police, if he is somehow maimed or killed in a traffic accident I won't be shedding any tears for this guy.

Of course, I can't say what it's like up north, but in the good ol' USA there are some very good cops around. There are also some that are in a blue uniform because they couldn't pass the civil service exam to work at the post office. Maybe this person wasn't even a police officer, but one of those wonderful "private security guards" that may carry a gun but isn't trusted with a bullet to put in it.
Oh well. Those of you who are without sin, at ease, and heave your stones when ready.

Eh, um, err, hmmm...
Well, Feynn. Here we are. Hmm.
I guess I have to come back and talk to you about this because I think you are a nice person, and I respect you and I want you to think well of me.
As Xenophon already so kindly pointed out, lighten up a little, huh? I admit quite cheerfully to being a hardened cynic, and occasionally even an asshole, but I do take exception to being named a "prejudicial asshole". It's supremely ironic that people in this thread seem to have taken me seriously when I talk about "reinforcing my prejudices", because AFAIK, other than a (to my mind) quite reasonable prejudice against child molesters, politicians, and journalists, I am IRL one of the most do-your-own-thing people I know. I personally am the one who wouldn't say "boo" to a goose. Are you familiar with the character of Milton, from that show, oh great, now I can't think of the name of it, four people in a row have called me an asshole and all my brains are leaking out of it. Anyway, Milton is Me, Coke bottle glasses and all (although I do manage to get along without a Swingline stapler).
And as far as any perceived prejudices against Canada and Canadians, geez, lighten up. Is it that they don't have "teasing" in Canada? Is it an alien American concept? Or what? I'm sorry you couldn't detect the "teasing" undertone in my admittedly case-hardened and cynical post. I truly do apologize and I won't say any more cynical or teasing things about Canada.
Except to point out, well, golly, of course we all think you're a bunch of naive shrinking violets when you post an OP that says, "Ohmigod there's a sex offender on the streets!" If my 16-year-old daughter said it, I'd be consoling and understanding and try and explain it to her. But you're supposed to be a grownup, Feynn, you're Married With Children. Hence my surprise that YOU are surprised. Weren't you paying attention? Or does this kind of thing really truly not happen where you are?
Shit happens, and I can say that without being cynical. Here's today's Chicago Tribune front page: Hondurans still stuck in the mud after the 1998 hurricane because the inept welfare agencies charged with helping them don't know their ass from their elbow. Also, many species of fish are over-fished and disappearing fast. Then there's Affirmative Action losing ground on college campuses, and last but not least, O'Hare Airport is looking at a major messy midair collision sometime in the next 5 to 10 years just because of volume of traffic. True, none of the stories involve escaped sex offenders, but the point is, the world's a big bad ugly place.
I hope this helps clear things up 'cause I'm really not trying to start a war here, okay? Or another "blame Canada/bash America" thread.

Ducky -
So sorry about those singed feathers, they'll heal if given enough time. I'll be brief...
No-one asked me to lighten up.
My sense of humour is intact.
I am rarely surprised by anything.
I don't need you to explain anything to me.
I am paying attention.
Your apology has been duly noted.
I still hope Mr. Ryan gets run over by someone driving a big ass SUV.

Wow, the things you miss when you go home for the weekend!
I made an innocent little post here awhile ago that the main point of which was to voice my agreement with Feynn. Not so much that I was outraged that the guy got away ( I live in the province that let Allen Leger run around loose, so escaped prisoners are old hat), but I agree with the idea of running the bump-nosed sicko over, preferably with a steamroller at 3 km/h . ..
The second half of the post was just a snarky comment at Duck Duck Goose. ( Not nearly as nasty as the one from KelliBelli, but I had to come out to support my fellow Nber.) DDG's response to my little jab was what I expected ,i.e. he took a little shot back , I cried for a little while at the sting, then I got over it, move on . . . ( I did notice that his response to KB was an unmitigated suck-up job, but I assume that's because she is so much cooler than me.)
So this whole post basically boils down to this :
DDG - I figured you were kidding, so was I . . .
, but . . .
KelliBelli called me her favorite poster !
Nyah! Nyah! phtttttttttttt!
