I have a cat and dog. I don't think I've ever referred to them as "the cat and dog".

It's usually the fuzzies or the puppies The dog is elderly, so neither of them is a puppy. When I'm calling both of them to come in, it's guys.

When I had 2 cats, I referred to them as the babies.

When I had 2 cats, I referred to them as the babies.

My two cats are the babies or the kitties. When I want to call them to their food dish (if I'm giving them a little fish, poultry, or meat), I call "Babies!" in a high-pitched voice.

Two shepherds, a schnauzer & a terrier here. Here goes my reputation as a hardass :D :

"The Goober Brothers" (the 2 sheps)
"The Pork Roll" (the overweight schnauzer)
"La Princesa" (my 14 year old terrier)

My 3 rats - "The Girls"
My 2 lizards - "The Boys"

My cat and the fish go just by that - "The Cat" and "The Fish". ;)

Well, three dogs, two cats and a cockatiel that all want dinner at the same time every night are usually referred to as the "various starving lifeforms."

When dividing up the species it's "all the durn dogs," "GD cats," and "freakin' bird"respectively.

:D

Our six cats are usually known as "the kittens," "the kids," or "the guys."

For some unknown reason, though, they are also occasionally known as "the booguns."

I have two cats. They both come when I call "Kiddens!" Sometimes I will greet them individually that way, "Hey, kidden." It's not "kid'n", it's "kidden".

No, I'm not calling them "kids"; the D sound is how my French grandmother always pronounces her Ts. I called the oldest cat that once when she was an only cat, my husband overheard and thought it was hilarious, and it just kind of stuck. They answer to their own individual names, as well - one won't answer to the other's name. But they both come running when I call out "Kiddens!"

Our three cats are most often referred to as "the kitties."

Individually, we call them "baby", and they seem to respond to it. They don't know their given names at all, probably.

First thing when I walk in the house, and I know there are no other people around, is to yell "Kittens!"

So, collectively, they are "kittens" even though one will be 13 soon, another is a 5 year old fat beast and only one actually qualifies as a kitten. And he's pushing it, having just hit 6 months.

Any of the following gets my two pugs running:

"Dogggieeeees!"
"Pooperdoopers!"
"c'mon you bottom feeders."

I also refer to them as my "pugterage" since they insist on accompanying me just about everywhere.

"The kids", as in "Have you fed the kids tonight?" or "Did you change the kids' litterbox?".

If they're being rotten, it's a collective "You little f*ckers!".

My god. That's exactly how I refer to the little fuc...um...cats! It used to be "the girls" but now we have a boy, too...so it's "the kids" or "the softies" or "the troublemakers" and sometimes...yes..."The Little Fuckers".

Individually, I call them by their names or one of a dozen nicknames. The dog knows all his names (and responds to them), and all the cat's names, (he'll look at the cat or go find him.) The cat only responds to a couple of his names and only knows the dogs given name.

When I was growing up, we always had a bunch of dogs and cats around the house. My dad called them the Livestock.

Dog and a ferret (more than one ferret at a time in the past).

We usually refer to them as the Animals, or the Beasts.

They both have their cages in a middle room that borders on the stairs. When I put them in their cages for the night and head upstairs to bed, I usually call out, "Good night, Beasts." Or, alternatively, "Good night, Beast" (to the dog) followed by "Good night, Least Beast" (to the weasel).

Gary "Wombat" Robson

When all of the animals I'm referring to are the same species, I use that. Otherwise, it's generally "critters," as in "It's bedtime, are all the critters in?" or "Did you feed the critters?" I often make distinctions between the "indoor critters" (cats, iguana, dogs) and the "outdoor critters" (horses, goats, cattle).

"The Feline Biomass". Or "The Cats". The two males are "The Boys" and their nine month old irritant is "The Kitten", and probably will be for the rest of her life, unless we bring home a younger one someday.

My mothers pets, which aren't all the same species, are "The Critters".

I'm boring. The dogs (2), the cat (1) the Bettas (2) and the goldfish (5.) Collectively, The Animals.
Elvis the cat usually goes by Elvisyoulittleshit.
And when I'm out somewhere with the dogs off-leash and I call them I yell "Puppies!"
Which is pretty funny, considering that gets two Rottweilers thundering towards me.

The two springers: "you jokers" or "the puppies" (they're 4 and 6)
All the dogs (springers plus shepherd/lab): "the dogs" (boring)

The cats: "the cats," "the kitty-cats"

Everybody: "the menagerie," "the critters," "you troublemakers"

But I randomly make up nicknames for them individually or in groups.

We call our 4 cats "the cat beasts"

Besides "the cats," the best collective name we have is "the kittizens".

Other than that, we also have "fur", which we use sort of like a pronoun for whatever cat happens to be attracting our attention at the moment ("Fur just destroyed the living room!")

Eight cats here. Collectively, "the cats" or "the herd" or "you guys".

You've been reading in the Pit huh??? :D

To the pets themselves, I say "gang", "guys", babies, cuties...just silly stuff. As in when I'm going out the door "okay gang, no wild parties!!"

To coworkers and friends I occasionally call them fur babies (in a tongue in cheek way), or just Dog, Cat and Bird, or my Pets (capital P yes, they ARE important).

The Beasts

Ironic when applied to sweet, shy, little Maggie, our youngest and smallest cat. But I suspect that Midnight and Clarence, our part-MaineCoons -- would appreciate it if they could understand it. They're BIG. And Midnight, our c ranky , somewhat arthritic oldest cat, has a definite attitude.

Three cats. When it was just the big fellas, they were 'the gentlemen'. Now we have little Lucy too, so it's 'the gentlemen and the lady'. But sometimes it's 'shut up, nobody cares what you think', like when they're waiting to be fed while I make tea.

Both my dogs are female, so they're "the girls." They respond to this, too.
When combined with my MIL's two "girls" or my SIL's two "boys," they become "the traveling dog park." (Not within earshot of the dogs, though)

Two JRT's. Their official title is "The Supervisors." Often referred to as doglets, puppies, the girls (Even though one is a male. The female is waaayyy alpha, so the feminine is the default gender.)

We have 2 cats, 2 dogs, 2 birds, a guinea pig, and a fish.

When calling the dogs to go out, we yell for the "puppies" (as in "puppies, want to go out?" or "puppies, want to eat?") even though they are both full grown and over 110 lbs each. When we want to feed the cats, we say "here kitty kitty" which gets both of them running. The other pets don't really respond much when you call them.

When referring to all of them together, we generally say "the pets" or "the zoo".

Incidentally, if I'm actually addressing them (which isn't as rare as it maybe should be, but at least I'm not actually expecting them to reply), I'll just collectively call them, "Ladies", as they're all female (well, on a chromosomal level, anyway).

We just call them "pets". As in "Pets!!! Stop fighting!!!"

We have a male cat and a female dog and they fight like brother & sister. Very entertaining but also annoying at times. Other than a few broken cat whiskers, so far there have been no injuries.

Four dogs, four cats. Collectively, The Pack. Thus, when I call home and talk to mr.stretch I ask "How's The Pack?"

The four dogs are also The Pack or the girls, puppies, poodles (though none of them are poodles), monsters, troublemakers, furbears, and fur bearers.

The cats are the boys...and Sybil (3 males, one female). Thus, "Where are the boys (pause) and Sybil?"

We have five cats, who are referred to variously as:

- the kids
- the furballs
- the livestock (as in, "Did you feed the livestock yet?")
- the boys (the two Singapura boys)
- the girls (the tabby girl and the two Russian Blue girls)
- the kittens
- the kee-tens
- the babies
- the cat-creatures
- the fuzzbuckets
- the princesses (the Russian Blues, who are sisters)

We also have a gecko, but he's usually just "the gecko," and doesn't get lumped in with the cats (who all find him fascinating and potentially tasty)

When it was just one cat and one dog, it was "the girls", then we got a boy cat, so it became the kids. Depending on who is in the room, it changes between boys, orange kids (girl dog and boy cat, both orange), the greys (boy cat and girl cat both grey tabby) or just the kids.

When I come home from work and four sleepy faces greet me at the door, it's always "hey kids!".

"The fuzzies" covers all 5 of our cats

The two oldest, a brother-sister pair that are both tiger-striped (more or less) are referred to as "the grey ones".

The two youngest, even though they're now over 2 years old are "the kittens".

And the one in the middle is "the calico", because, well....she is the calico! :)

Two cats, one hedgehog. Used to have a fish until he became the ex-fish.

Fuzzy little bastards.
Roomies.
Cats.

Individually, they get pet names. I think they know their given names -- at least they know who's being yelled at. :) And they know "FOOD TIME!"

The hedgehog is generally called 'little guy'.
