Simpsons and Cheers.

I'm a little shocked at some of the finalists. I think some excellent shows got knocked out early by being pitted against other excellent shows.

Ugly choices.

I. This is hard. Both ahve had a profound effect on ppular culture. My vote goes to...The Dick Van Dyke Show, for starting it all.

II. This is a slam-dunk, no-contest massacre. Cheers by a gazillion points.

Cheers is a no brainer over the never-should-be here I can't bring myself to name unworthy other choice.

Dick Van Dyke is a worthy choice, but the Simpsons wins the popular vote.

Mainly because I have never actually seen Cheers, except a few clips here and there. Nothing I've seen or heard of it compels me to believe that it was substantially superior to News Radio. More, popular, sure. But funnier? Eh.

The selection committee stands by its decisions. Yes there have been some surprises and upsets, but just think how happy Dave Foley and Andy Dick are right now.

Holy crap. I feel like a kid who grew up in Podunk Town, population 500, and Podunk U's b-ball team is in the final 4.

Go News Radio!!!!

News Radio.

Dick Van Dyke was great, but imo, Cheers was overrated.

I'm a little shocked at some of the finalists. I think some excellent shows got knocked out early by being pitted against other excellent shows.Isn't it usually seeded #1 v. #64 & #2 v. #63 and put in such a way so that if the higher ranked team always wins wins, all the way down, #1 will go up against #2 at the end? Perhaps for a reason.

Anyway since the criteria were "what would I watch"

The Simpsons and Newsradio.

Tough choice between The Simpsons and Dick Van Dyke, as The Simpsons has been merely average for years now, but it enjoyed a run of many years as one of the funniest and subversive sitcoms ever.

Although I am surprised these are the final four...seriously people, you never watched All In The Family? And Dick Van Dyke's schtick over Mary Tyler Moore Show's writing? Geez...thankgod Hee Haw didn't fit into the category.

News Radio - it went out on top, albeit almost forcibly. Wait, why did I vote Simpsons again then?

Gotta go with the ones that that knew it was time to quit while they were at the top of their game:

Dick Van Dyke and NewsRadio

True, one could argue that NR was "forced" into that position by the death of Phil Hartman, but it's not a given that a show ends before dismality sets in after a key cast member dies. *cough*8SimpleRules*cough*

That's it, that's all she wrote, the semi-finals are over.

What we have left are the final two teams-- er, shows.

I. Dick Van Dyke drops to III. Simpsons, 27-15

and

II. Cheers outlasts News Radio, 25-17

The championship starts at 10 tonight.
