I am, of course, googling, but if anybody has a good site or resource I'd welcome it. Print resources are welcome too, as I'm heading to the library manana.

That thread title, of course, should read "anyone know a good site for INFO ON their behavioral characteristics." And I'm specifically interested in the hunting scavenging habits of both sorts of animal.

Try this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0006340679/sr=8-1/qid=1146853865/ref=sr_1_1/104-9720517-1398365?%5Fencoding=UTF8

Despite the lurid title and the occasional mild ( if entertaining )anthropomorphizing of the subjects, it's a nice little book on the behavior of a particular clan of Spotted Hyenas, a particular pack of African Wild Dogs and a particular family group of Golden Jackals. Including discussion of hunting techniques and relative success rates ( in the case of the hyenas and wild dogs, a much higher success rate than neighboring lion prides for example ).
