View Full Version : The SDMB E3 2006 thread

Sure, we have a thread about Sony's diasterous PS3 pricing announcement, (http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=370800) but I'd like to see a thread devoted to all the gaming goodness being unveiled at E3 this week. Share your thoughts and impressions here!
I can't provide links right now, but I'll note that IGN (http://www.ign.com/) has streaming and downloadable videos of the Big Three's keynote presentations. I heartily recommend the Nintendo keynote, especially for watching three of their corporate bigwigs play video tennis with an ordinary Joe.

I'll be going tomorrow, so I'll let my impressions ramble along sometime this weekend. Now, if I was actually at the convention today I wouldn't be here to make posts about it. All I can do is read the news and point out what seems important.

I have to say I am pretty dissapointed about Sony at this moment.
I haven't seen any playable stuff, just some FMV's.
I haven't downloaded the complete press conference yet, but it appears that they don't have any titles which are even near completion.
Gears of War looks awesome and I liked the footage from Brothers in Arms and Call of Duty, although I am pretty sceptical about whether this is in-game graphics.

I saw some of the E3 footage from my buddy's house. Gears of War did look nifty. Call of Duty also looked pretty sick. Then again, I've got this theory that they make war games a little nicer and more glamorous so we join the military.
It's a conspiracy, I tells ya.

From the little E3 coverage I have seen, all I can really say is that the Morgan Webb interface looks very intuitive and would provide many hours of playablity. :)
The Wii controller looks silly.

Saw the trailer. Funny as HELL. :D
(Too bad Snake won't be allowed to sneak up behind Pikachu and snap his neck, though using the box as a shield will be good for laughs)
I also wonder if all the electronic interference at E3 will screw up the responsiveness of the Wii's Bluetooth controllers.

I've heard the the booth babes have been forced to cover up (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060511/od_nm/expo_sex_dc_3). Independent confirmation from the field will be much appreciated.
