We don't have TV so we get West Wing on DVDs a bit after the fact. We've just started Season Six, and last night watched the episode where CJ Cregg becomes Chief of Staff. At her first morning meeting, Joshua says it's time for him to move on and hands her his resignation letter; Toby says he hadn't intended for this to be a pile-on, but he too is resigning and hands in his letter. As CJ sputters, the door opens and Prez Bartlet indicates that he, too, is stepping down, and she catches on that she's being had. *

Deja vu kicked in and I knew there had been a similar event in a prior season, in which a series of characters had set someone up, deadpan like that, as a means of initiating them. Who and when? I'm drawing a blank...

It was to drive Toby crazy before a State of the Union speech. The whole staff was egged on by a $10 bet with the President.

And to Josh before the election (where they'd hired an acting troup to say they'd screwed up their ballots.)

So, should I watch the finale or just pretend it ended years ago?

If you haven't been watching this season, a lot will leave you scratching your head. This season is by far the best since Sorkin left. It might be the second or thisrd best of the entire series.
