I'm not sure if it's supposed to be as bad as it is. But, if you didn't see this send off to the short lived Connie Chung/Maury Povich abomination, you need to. Here's a clip. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcozKfpbmaA) This is right up there with the works of Mrs. Miller.

I don't even like Connie Chung, yet this makes me feel embarrassed for her. Maybe she was drunk?

Her almost falling on her ass in the process?

Connie Chung worked for ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and MSNBC. Early in her career she was a hard-working, respected journalist. Somewhere along the line, something went terribly, terribly wrong.

As for her swan song, it ranks right up there with Roseanne singing The Star Spangled Banner. I will say that Connie Chung in her evening gown looked better than Roseanne in jeans.

I believe she's claiming now that it was intentionally bad. That's what I'd say too.

She's still super-hot, though.

IT'S A JOKE.

She's done this before, she has no pretentions of being a good, or even a passable singer, she's making fun of herself, a light-hearted way to end a run. She sang (badly) to Dan Rather and Barbara Walters, it was just as bad. She knows what she sounds like.

It's a joke.

Yep, can't imagine Walter Kronkite, Dan Rather, Peter Jennings, Tom Brokaw, Christiane Amanpour or Jane Pauley considering, much less doing, anything remotely similar for their swansong. Not even Barbara Walters, despite those blech celebrity interview specials she periodically does.

Katie Couric, maybe.

what is worse than that; hmmmm ....

I would say that the bit where Linda McCartney sings backup on Hey Jude - that is still the champion. Beware!

It reminds me of Colin Powell singing El Paso when he was in Vietnam. This kind of intentionally goofy thing doesn't do nearly as much for me as the people who try to make good songs and are no better Ms. Chung.

I think this isn't the broadcast audio feed, or they didn't pick up the audio from the piano on the mikes. With just the vocals, it emphasizes just how bad her singing is.

No, he is definitely not playing it. I think it's just part of the "joke"... that this goofy lounge-lizardy guy has a big dumb grin on his face while he pretends to play. You can clearly see he's not even pushing the keys down.

The reminds me of when Maury Povich was on the old Daily Show with Craig Kilborn. One of the "5 questions" was "What are you gonna do to have fun tonight?".

Without missing a beat, he said, "What I do every night--Wang Chung!"

"That is correct!"

I've tried to watch that about fifteen times, and I can't do it. I get about as far as "I'm gonna be......hiiiigh..." and the fight-or-flight instinct kicks in. Certain muscles in my face twitch uncontrollably, my teeth clench, and I'm forced to choose between closing the window immediately, or putting my fist throught he monitor. I may have to be baked out of my mind myself to view this clip in its entirety.

Hey, it's just someone having a little fun. Don't get bent out of shape over it. Actually the first part of the song isn't all that bad considering. (A week of voice coaching and she could even make American Idol!)

She isn't taking it seriously and neither should you.

You're nothing if you aren't outraged about something while safe behind the veil of anonymity.

And Connie Chung makes me angry.

I took one for the team, man. And I'm a better person for it, I tell ya. What doesn't kill you, and all that...

Actually, my only salvation was the constant thought of Stewie doing the same thing when they spoofed it on Family Guy.

I thought it was pretty obvious that it was tongue-in-cheek. I agree, however, that it was way too long.

Are you sure the Linda McCartney clip is legit? I'm wondering why all the other music is muted...? And I must say Sir Paul does great in the background.

I saw the bit on Countdown with Keith Olberman where he interviewed her about it. If you notice, the piano player isn't actually playing while she's singing. Her explanation was that she's so out of tune that actual music would throw her off. So given that, you have to admire her performance. (BTW, she explained that she did the show because her niece is the executive producer of the Countdown show.)

Knock Maury all you want, but I heard he might be doing a show soon in which he tests guys DNA to determine the paternity of some really unlucky kids who will come out huge losers no matter what the result. Wow! The man is full of ideas.

And I must say Sir Paul does great in the background.I am almost certain the Linda McCartney clip is legit: it's been making the rounds of the bootleg circuit for a long time, since before digital editing was common.

Also, after Howard Stern played it on his show, he claimed that he had to stop playing it when he received a cease and desist order from the McCartneys' lawyers.

The tape was purportedly made from Linda's vocal mic by an engineer who normally turned her mic way down in the mix, but on this night surreptitiously fed the mic to a recorder. Which would explain why the other music is so quiet compared to her voice.

Wow! The man is full of ideas.Actually one time (I caught this and had to watch - it was so trainwreckable), they ran the paternity test for a baby whose mother had cheated on her boyfriend with ... his identical twin brother.
All of them were desperate to find out which was the real father - and none of them could see the flaw in the plan (or at least, that's how they acted).

Connie and Maury married in 1986. In 1987 she was roundly criticized for the documentary Scared Sexless.

On the other hand, if they hadn't married, Murphy Brown[I] wouldn't have had the Murphy/Jay Gold romance and In Living Color[I] wouldn't have done the "Me Want Maury" parody. I'm willing to give the marriage a little slack.

OK. I got up the courage to watch it. I only made it through about 20 sec. before I had to abort, but one thing I noticed: Connie Chung is one fine looking 60-year old. Maybe the poor quality of the video smoothed some wrinkles, but I'd be checking her closet for a painting of an old lady.

I litterally sat on my hands and made it through the entire clip (not Rocket Man...I'd never survive that, just Ms. Chung's farewell).

OK, not only was the joke lame, the whole thing was truly bizarre. What the Hell was up with her moaning like a cow and then collapsing at the end? I just didn't see the point. Did the effort of singing (she does sound like a bovine in labor) cause her to swoon? Were the six months themselves exhausting? Is anyone above age four supposed to think slapstick like that is humorous? Up until that point, I could see it as a hopelessly amateurish attempt at satire, but the coda managed to be both a little surreal, and a potent irritant. Presenile demenetia?
