I've been told that cinemas sometimes use a very low frequency (inaudible) rumbling sound to get people to move out of the theatres/cinema complex after a movie. Apparently it makes people feel uneasy (even though they don't know why) and they are quicker to move out. Is this really what happens?

No.

slightly off topic, but the movie Irreversible used a low frequency noise during the beginning of the movie to give the viewer an uneasy feeling, which given the subject matter, was a bit redundant...
