I can't seem to find any word of what happened to the soldiers kidnapped that started off the war. Are they still presumed alive?

The Lebanon ones at least are presumed alive. There was a little bit about them on the radio news this morning. Publically, Israel has said they will not do any sort of swap for them. That said, they have a dozen or so Hezbollah POWs and a few Hezbollah dead bodies that could be quietly released.

I just always figured they were dead. Israel was bombing anything that so much as smelled like Hezbollah, and I assumed H would have kept the prisoners in one of their offices or bunkers somwhere, many of which are now rubble. Do the math.

Nah. Odds are they smuggled them out of the country as fast as possible, probably on the very day they were kidnapped. The assumption here is that they're in Iran.
