Failed guitar-tuning-foo (Nickelback)

VeryCoolSpouse would like me to learn the new Nickelback hit "Savin' Me." The acoustic guitar in the intro is very cool, but it has notes I don't have! Does anyone know what tuning they're using there? The lowest note is C#. Did they tune the whole guitar down a third, or is it some funky variation on drop-D tuning or what?

Also, that guitar sounds freakin' great. Any music studio gurus know what they did to it--Aural Enhancer, EQ, other?

I recommend Syd-Barrett concert tuning: random sounds are preferable over Nickelback.
