I saw him on Comedy Central -- last year, I think. 20something white guy with a beard. His schtick is to tell stories as if he's entertaining a group of small children, the stories leading into (mostly) bawdy songs, accompanying himself on his guitar.

I know who you mean, it'll come to me in a minute here....

Hmm ... I'd have said Stephen Lynch, except he's not bearded.

hmm...I'd also assume Stephen Lynch, but could he have been bearded? at least, at one point?

Lynch isn't who I was thinking of, but can't come up with his name. ::grumble::

Doesn't mean it's not who the OP means though

It's Zach Galifianakis (http://www.zachgalifianakis.com/)... right?

It could also be Demetri Martin - but I don't think he does a "story time" theme....

Sorry, here's al ink to Demtri Martin's site (http://www.demetrimartin.com/main.html). Martin's style is more one-liners set to guitar music... not so much w/ the "bawdy songs" described by the OP. It's gotta be Zach G he's thinking of...

Zach plays piano, not guitar, and I've never heard him do the children's story thing.

I've not heard or seen him do the children thing, but Mike O'Connell (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2v-AkSj260)?

(Not safe for work, but hilarious.)

Almost forgot, O'Connell can be found with guitar here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NjPxX0-G9l8).

(Also probably NSFW)

I believe it is Stephen Lynch. I think the comedy set that the OP is refering to is set on a stage where a few people are all sitting around Stephen. He is up on a stool, looking down on them, and speaking to them as if they were children.

If you could remember any of the songs, that would be helpful. I think in this specific one, he did a few songs like Special Fred, If I were gay, Hermaphrodite, Lulaby, a quick Taxi Driver song, If I could be a superhero (about a girl who leaves Stephen for a doctor named Bob) and a few others.

I really do think thats what he is talking about though. For sure.

Also, Stephen was a little beared in that specific Comedy Central Presents. I think a better term for his facial status would be "unshaven" but thats just me.

Stephen Lynch's abums are freaking hilarious, by the way. I highly recommend them.

It's definitely Stephen Lynch, the most beautiful man in comedy. Well, at least as far as I'm concerned (http://www.geocities.com/mulderscreek/blog/neoxblog.html/3), he is. The start of one of his specials was the set up that he's talking to a class of kids.
