While waiting for our baby (http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=387611), my mother and my wife's sister have come to stay with us. We just moved into our new apartment, so we only have the old table and two chairs. We bought a folding chair and are using a camping chair for the meantime.
The sister only speaks Chinese, with a few words of English and Japanese. My mother only speaks English, with no Japanese or Chinese.
I speak Japanese and English and no Chinese. TokyoWife speaks Chinese and Japanese, and only a little English. So, not more than two of us can have a conversation at one time, and not many of us can talk without translation. :p
