Another good episode. Fewer laugh-out-loud moments than some episodes, but I really liked the interactions between Jim and Michael. They're both obviously played as broad characters for laughs some of the time, but it's nice to also really see the writers give them some depth and personality.

Toby trying to ask Pam out was painful but hilarious.

I liked this exchange:

Jim: I've sold forty thousand units this month.
Dwight: That's impossible.
Jim: Well, it is possible, and I did it.
Dwight: Well, I did it, too!

I cannot wait to see how Michael is going to go about getting Pam and Jim together! And good for Jim for telling Michael that he left because of Pam...the classic cliche is to invent some other reason and then spend an entire season in missed opporrtunities and misunderstood situations.

And I thought it was very cool that Michael got the Hammermill account, and just blew it off as something less important than having a party in his room....shows once again his skill as a salesman that enables him to keep his job.

Toby was so sweet, and shy, and hopeful. Such good acting between the two of them in that scene with Pam. Oh, and that brilliant moment when Pam agreed to have a baby with Michael if they are both single and childless after 30 years...you could see her calculating the odds of that, and the fact she'd be well over 50 by then, and not likely to be able to have one. And Angela's disguise, and the fact that Micahel didn't recognize her at the check-in desk....

Didn't Angela say "Is that you, D?" Not something a hooker would say...? Weird for them to have Jim of all people jump to a wrong conclusion.

And Creed with the drunk woman who presumably has worked there for some time..."{Some name similar to Angela}'s the office bitch, you'll get used to her. I'm Creed."

I assumed Angela must have had her face covered somehow because from the hallway we could see her bare legs, and Jim was practically in the room before he spun around and left, so he must have been able to see more than her upper body. Maybe she was wearing a monkey mask.

"Don't 'monkey' me, Dwight!"

My favorites of the night-

Pam: I heard the waiting list (to adopt) is like 8 months long.

Michael: I don't even know if I want a baby in 8 months.

......................

Dwight: Why do they call him the bus?

Michael: Because he's afraid to fly.

......................

Jan: Wow Michael, I guess I underestimated you.

Michael: Yeah, well, maybe next time you should estimate me.

Either Angela's face was covered, or Jim was so shocked to see a naked woman in Dwight's room that he didn't get a good look at her face.

I want to see Michael's swag-decorated condo. Microsoft logos everywhere!

Ryan really needs to grow some balls and get himself out of that relationship. Eew.

I love that Michael was able to make up for all his goofing off by taking one meeting with the Hammermill guy. And it was like a second thought for him.

I kind of cringed when Michael suggested that Jim and Roy get together to comisserate over Pam.

Yeah, that whole adoption conversation was freaky. When Pam suggested that the application alone for adopting a Chinese baby was $1000, Michael asked if she could find him a cheaper baby.

What did Jim mean when he told Michael he "laid everything on the line with Pam twice and she turned him down twice"?

We saw him making his case in the season finale and getting turned down.
Are we to assume he talked to her again at another time and got shot down again?

He talked to Pam outside and said he loved her - turned down.

Then he followed her inside the office, kissed her, and was turned down again as shown in the first episode of the new season.

Poor Pam, getting a ton of dating advice from the most clueless lot on the planet.

"Order the most expensive thing on the menu to let him know you're worth it"
"You do that, you're going to have to put out"
"Yeah, you'll have to put out."

Jobs must be hard to find in that town. I can't imagine working there more than two weeks. Hell, I can't imagine lasting a full interview with Michael (Jan, however, could interview me all night long).

I really liked this episode because, although we have always known MIchael to want to be friends with the people he is supposed to be supervising, I really think this is the first episode, that I can really recall that emphasized how important these "freindships" are to him.

The fun part from last night's episode was that she was a cartoonist (using the term loosely) when she was at Dartmouth. "Next time bring your sketches, I'll let you pick my brain." "It wasn't a Love Connection."

From a comedy writers stand point my favorite gag was the cartoonist date thinking his Freedom Fries joke was edgy and Pam's reaction to that.

I assumed that Jim didn't see anything more of Angela than we did. All he saw was a naked leg and someone saying "D, is that you?"

Creed's line of "Andrea is the office bitch. You'll have to get used to it." outstretching hand "I'm Creed." killed me.

Just remembered something I was puzzled by... Angela and Philadelphia. First she implies that every girl in Philly is a whore. Then she defends Philly when someone attacks it. And at one point, she thinks there's a fly in the room. I feel like there's some connecting thread there, but I don't know what it is.

One thing that bugs me a little bit is that I feel they're a bit inconsistent about the existence of the cameras. On the one hand, sometimes they clearly know there's a guy in the room with a camera, and basically talk directly to it. But no one ever actually out loud acknowledges it, no stranger ever says "hey, why are the cameras following you around?", etc. It's a bit inconsistent. But a minor complaint at best.

I don't see this an as inconsistency. I've never seen a reality show where anyone acknowledged the cameras on-screen. Take The Apprentice for example; they're out in the public constantly, yet no one is ever shown commenting on it.

I thought the fly bit was funny because most likely there was a fly in the room and the actress reacted in character to it. But yes the inconsistency with the stance on Philadelphia was odd. Unless it was an attempt to show her hypocrisy again. She lambasts women as sluts and goes to church but has a sexual relationship with Dwight. Its okay for her to talk bad abut Philly but not someone else.

Michael and Dwight were in Michael's room; Michael went to kick the party up a notch by turning on a black light. Of course stains were exposed on various items around the room.

I didn't look closely, because I was laughing too hard, but I really hope there was an incriminating stain on Dwight somewhere. That would've been a great capper to the Angela storyline.

The thing that cringed me: why would Jim confide in Michael again?
In this case, I think it was just to make him feel better. Michael thought that Jim had transferred because he didn't like Michael. Jim has always had a soft spot for Michael and an inclination to be kind when things are going bad for him. Confessing that he had left because of Pam was a way to reassure him that Jim still liked him (and I think Jim appreciates Michael as a boss even more now that he's in the sterile, humorless environment of Stamford). I think that Jim also just decided he didn't care that much about keeping his thing for Pam a secret. He's sort of resigned himself (at this point) to accepting that it's not going to happen. He's not at Scranton anymore anyway, and he thought it just didn't matter if anyone knew.

Also, maybe this is how things between Jim and Pam get restarted--- you know Michael won't be able to keep it to himself. He'll say something to Pam, and maybe she'll finally get off her ass and do something about it.

You've got to include the best part! The dialog between Michael and Dwight.

I have to say that I am impressed by the realism of the show. I have spent a great deal of time in Eastern, PA, New York City and Stamford, CT and the characters and locations all ring true. Stamford IS sterile and corporate - all office parks overlooking Rt-95 and The Sound. Jan and the other New York "suits" with their distaste of the tiny rural Scranton branch and their Big Corporate ivory tower.

And Philly does smell like cheese steaks :D

Also I like that they make Michael an excellent salesman. Too many shows put some ridiculous asshole of a boss in charge and you can never figure out how the hell he got there.

Typically hotel rooms have the bathroom near the door creating a small hallway. Most likely Jim would not have gone past the small hallway. He would have just seen Angelas lower half and been so startled he just did a quick about-face not even considering it would be Angela (who no one has any idea about).

I wished I'd taped it so I could go back and check, but I don't recall seeing anyone when Jim opened Dwight's door...just the voice, which I thought was coming from the bathroom. Didn't see any legs or anything. If Angela had been laying right there, she wouldn't have had to ask "Is that you, D?" and she would have reacted to seeing Jim. I think she was in the bathroom and you saw clothes on the bed. Could someone who taped it go back and check?

I kind of assumed Jim knew (perhaps subconciously) that Michael would eventually spill it to Pam. He's using Michael to communicate for him.

kittenblue, I recorded it and you do see Angela's leg. In fact, her feet & leg position indicate that she's lying on the bed spread eagle and Jim gets a full view.

She says "D?" when Jim walks in. Maybe she was wearing some sort of get up or a mask as ohers have suggested (maybe just the sunglasses), but I assumed there was enough of a hallway there that she heard Jim coming (believing it was dwight), but when she heard him talk ("old habits die hard...") she thought he wasn't alone so she called out "D?" to get his attention before he let anyone else in the room.

I figured Jim was so flustered to see a naked lady there that he just panicked and ran. He didn't notice it was Angela.

Jim was talking to and facing the camera while he opened the door. He probably assumed the room would be empty. He pushed the door open still looking at the camera then when he heard "D?" he looked startled that someone was in the room (you could see a pair of nude legs on the bed) and he took about a 1/2 second glimpse of 'nude girl' on the bed and slamed the door and ran.
It probably didn't register that it was Angela. He's probably never seen her with her hair down.

I'm not sure why anyone is baffled by Jim not recognizing her. She was laying on a bed naked, Jim looked at her for a half a second, I promise you he wouldn't have been looking at her face. Men are simple and this situation is not the least bit unrealistic or confusing.

No, I don't think she was lying spread-eagle; she was just lying there with her legs stretched out. One was straight out and one was slightly up, in more of a sultry pose.
Of course, I agree that Jim just saw 'Naked Girl' and turned and ran before he saw her face.

I was disappointed that we didn't get to see what he was going to do to Dwight's room.

This is what makes the show for me. It is the perfect example of the Peter Principle.

I could see Michael as a great salesman. He doesn't come across as someone who is trying to get over on you. He comes across as very earnest and somewhat pathetic. Just the kind of guy you want to buy something from because you are convinced that this guy is too dumb to con you, and you sort of feel sorry for him.

Actually, Pam definitely knows, and Ryan certainly suspects. At one point during Season 2, Pam was doing an "investigation" on Dwight and Angela and had told Jim about it. She asked Phyllis if she knew anything about a secret office romance, and Phyllis thought Pam was referring to herself and Jim. Startled, Pam dropped the investigation and never mentioned it again. Jim, who thinks Dwight is too weird to have a girlfriend, therefore doesn't know.

In conclusion: Pam knows, Ryan probably knows, Jim is in denial, and nobody else seems to have noticed.

Yeah, wunna these days I'll hafta check out them there hotel room thingies.

My point was, we (the camera) were still in the hallway and could see a woman's legs on the bed. Jim was ahead of us and, I felt, far enough into the room- and by that I mean he had enough of an angle into the portion of the room beyond the bathroom- to see as far as the headboard of the bed. But as others have said, maybe he was too shocked by the legs and the woman's voice to even register who it may have been before he turned and scrambled out.

I can't believe I'm analyzing this short scene to this extent. I need a life...

Ryan suspects? When did that happen?
In Michael's Birthday (http://www.tv.com/the-office/michaels-birthday/episode/631891/recap.html), the following exchange occurs:

Dwight walks into the lunch room, takes an ice cream cake out of the freezer, and tells Ryan there's still 5 feet of sub left if he's hungry. Ryan expresses surprise that someone ate 3 feet of it and Dwight tells him Hell Yeah! and tells him to save room for ice cream cake. Angela walks in and tries to take the cake from Dwight. Dwight resists and they struggle with the cake.
Angela - "Thank you (goes to take cake)"
Dwight - "Oh, I got it (grabs cake)"
Angela - (angrily)"It's the party planning committee-"
Dwight - (whispers urgently)"This is the most important day of the year. I can't risk anything!"
Angela - "Fine!"
Dwight - "What about that.. meeting.. later? To discuss finances."
Angela - "Yes... (whispers) but don't expect any cookie."
Dwight - (whispers) "But what if I'm hungry?"
Ryan throws a startled loook at Angela
Angela - (whispers)" NO COOKIE!"
Angela walks away and Ryan throws another startled look at Dwight. Cut to Ryan to camera. He looks absolutely shocked. He sits there with his mouth open unable to speak.

By the way, Ryan's non-talking head is the best Ryan moment of the series so far.

I have to say, it sure is. Except for maybe his expression on the double date while Kelly was feeding him.

Oh, and during the "Dwight found half a joint in the parking lot" episode, Dwight asks Angela if she's taking any prescriptions, and she says no, and he says "You're not ...
