Hey knitters! With winter coming up, I thought I'd share my Column of Leaves scarf pattern. It's done in a beautiful lacy leaf motif and it pretty easy and quick to do. Let me know what you think. Also if anyone has patterns to share, post them here!
Here's the pattern: Brooke's Column of Leaves Knitted Scarf Pattern (http://brookenelson.com/leafscarfpattern.html)

That is truly lovely. I just bookmarked it and I'm going to spend the rest of the afternoon daydreaming about what yarn in my stash will show it off best. Thanks for sharing it.

Ooh, that's beautiful! I may have to make that for a few Christmas presents this year...

That's beautiful! If I wasn't already overwhelmed by Christmas present knitting, that's definitely something I'd make myself.
<---- has been bookmarking patterns like crazy for after-Christmas knitting

Oh wow, that's pretty.
*prints* Ahhh, I love having a laser printer at work. I'm totally going to start one of these when I get home. I need a new scarf - and once the inevitable screwed-up one I make is done, I'll know what I'm doing wrong, and I can make lots of 'em for friends and coworkers.
*is now excited* I haven't knitted in so long - but seeing the scarf made the bug bite me again. :)

It's nice to see I'm not the only one.

Far from it. My first project with a new skill is always a disaster - or the first half of it looks horrid, but the rest comes out beautifully. Whatever is going to be hardest to fix, usually.

Hey there! It's Zette from LJ knitting.
I do so love this pattern- it's gorgeous and I have GOT to get to making it soon.
I posted up a finished project today but the pattern was not mine, it was just adapted from a knitty project. (a beer bottle holder)
Keep up the great work- I love that design.

Wow! That is so pretty!
I'm just learning to knit and can do the basic knit/purl stuff well enough to create a block of my own pattern but don't know how to do anything curvy like your leaf stitch yet. I might see my mentor this Thursday. I'll bring your pattern (which she'll love and want to do herself) and maybe she can help me get a start on it.
Thanks so much for the inspiration!

I wish I knew someone that could make me scarves. I looove scarves, but I am picky about color.
I am so untalented in knitting/sewing etc. I don't have the patience or dexterity.

I'd offer to make you one and send it, but you might get my waffle scarf, haha.
Actually, the problem is that I've been so busy lately, that I've barely got the time to do any of my standard crafts - basket weaving, knitting, crocheting, sewing, latch-hook, cross stitching, anything. The only reason I can even satiate my SMDB addiction is because I have free time at work often (and they don't take kindly to me hauling in a needlepoint pattern, soo).
But if I had the time to actually sit and make my crafts all day, I'd totally send you all stuff - cuz I have nowhere to put it, and not nearly enough people in my life to offload the stuff on. Come to think of it, though, there's probabably charities that would love to have crafts, for the homeless and for raffles. *ponders this*

That is a beautiful scarf!
You should submit it to Knitty!

Yeah, I had people complaining that I was knitting at work.
Well damnit I had plenty of blank space to fill! I'm not going to sit staring at the wall for so long without doing SOMETHING.
I'm too busy now to knit at work though, so I haven't taken it to work in awhile anyway.

She should!
Definitely bookmarking this.

I've started on this now, using KnitPicks' Andean Silk (http://www.knitpicks.com/yarns/itemid_5420126/yarn_display.aspx) in Pitch (the color looks deep gray on my screen but it's actually black). It looks great; I just hope I can block the hell out of it to make it look decent!
I tried to make a scarf for myself last winter, and tried several different patterns before starting on one that I didn't hate, shelving it when I ran out of yarn. I only ordered more a month ago, and I think I'll just rip that partially-done section to scavenge the yarn for this.

It'd be a great submission, but I think you have to take the pattern offline to submit it. I don't think Knitty accepts previously "published" patterns, even if it's your own pattern you just posted on your blog for free.

I thought about submitting it to Knitty, but honestly I didn't think they would accept it because they are very very picky. However, I am in the process of making a matching* hat so maybe I will submit that!
*The yarn matches but it's done in a cable motif, not the column of leaves motif.
Speaking of which, today was the very first day I have worn my scarf! It is cold and windy today and it's the first day this fall that it's been cold enough to need a scarf. It was also cold enough that I said to myself, I need to hurry up and finish the hat, I am definitely going to be needing it soon!

Oh I love that Andean Silk yarn, I was just admiring it yesterday. It is perfect for this scarf. It will block beautifully. I can't emphasize enough the importance of blocking this scarf, it is amazing the difference it makes! Not only does the pattern just "pop," and open up the lace, but the scarf grows in length and width!
