In which Shodan goes on yet again about his nephew, who...
last night was awarded the Outland Trophy (http://wisconsin.scout.com/2/598727.html) for best interior lineman in the nation
is currently projected by some to be one of the top three NFL draft picks in the nation (http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/sub/mockdraft.html)
is about to graduate with honors from my alma mater, the University of Wisconsin-Madison
became engaged to a six-foot-one, blonde haired, blue eyed absolute doll (http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=193&p=8&c=1&nid=1930813), who is as engaging and personable as she is prettythus sending his father, grandfather, and uncles into tizzies of delirous rapture of one sort because, well, he won the freaking trophy, and sending his mother, grandmother, and aunts into tizzies of different sort because now they get to play Wedding Day BarbieTM with larger-than-life size dolls

My sister once said, "it's been a heckuva ride with this kid". She ain't just whistling Dixie there!

Surely I can find SOMETHING to object to in one of Shodan's posts...

(double checks)

Nope, this one is clean.

Doesn't "footie" usually refer to soccer?

I thought it was going to be about his nephew, the star of foot fetish videos.

Wow, that's really cool!

He's really got it going on. He seems like a great guy, so I'm sure he'll handle the disappointment of his team losing to the mighty Arkansas Razorbacks on New Years Day and continue with his winning ways after that. :D

Blasphemy!

Burn the witch! Arkansas will cower before the might and fury of the dreaded - er, Badgers, small, furry creatures who burrow into hillsides.

But you are correct about Joe - he is a nice kid, if you can call a 6'8", 310-lb. person with a neck bigger than his head a "kid". He served an internship this summer as part of his degree work, and came out of it saying that if he never played another down of football, he would be perfectly happy doing that for his career. So he has options beyond sports.

But still and all - this skinny little kid I used to play hide and seek with is kicking butt and taking names in college football. Awesome.

But I feel like the punch line to the old joke -

The priest is sitting in the confessional, and someone comes in to the other side, and says thru the screen - ""I don't need absolution, I'm not even Catholic, but I'm a forty-three year old accountant. Last night I wandered into a strange bar, where I was picked up by two beautiful nineteen year old women who took me back to their apartment and seduced me. Not only did we participate in the most exciting three hours of my life, but I was able to perform sexually with each of them in turn - twice."

"Well", says the priest, "if you aren't sorry, and you don't want absolution, why are you telling me this?"

"Are you kidding?" says the guy.

"I'm telling everyone!"

Same here. :D

Shodan

All-Americans in whatever sport they choose. And yes she is a cutie.

p.s. congrats to you and double congrats to your nephew.

As a UW grad, I say congratulations. He may just be the best player ever to play at Wisconsin, Ron Dayne included.

I am told Mike Webster played for the U of W-M. He's the one that got me started in (semi-)serious weight lifting.

My folks, sister, and brother-in-law return from the banquet where the Outland was awarded tonight. Methinks I will call them up and we can bubble over at each other for a while.

My daughter also got straight A's (again). Remind me to talk about something other than how spectacular the kids in my family are sometime.

Just not for a couple of days. It's comfy up here on Cloud Nine! :D

Shodan

Cool. Hope he doesn't get stuck in Arizona, which is probably the most likely place, given a reasonable projection of the draft.

Btw, I think you mean offensive lineman rather than interior lineman for the Outland trophy. He's a tackle, which isn't an interior lineman (guards, and center)

All the references I have seen refer to the Outland Trophy as being for interior linemen.

But what I know about football you could fit into a gnat's ear with room left over, so maybe you are right. But I talked to my sister yesterday, and she is just as bubbly as you might expect, both about the award and the upcoming nuptials.

And it does appear at this point that it's Arizona, here Joe comes. The higher the draft, the crappier the team you go to. Ah well - Joe will turn it around immediately. :D

Interesting - I was wrong, in that it doesn't refer to offensive linemen. I looked winners up on wikipedia, and it's for linemen, period - including defensive linemen, which makes it a more prestigious award, with more candidates.

Well, they certainly need him. And if they start building the lines, they could indeed turn things around.

I know he's on many Browns' fans wishlists, but we're probably not going to draft that high.

So I assume we all get season tickets on the 50 yard line. Where do we pick them up?

Sounds like a long flight to you... even not knowing where he gets drafted.

He's a tackle, which isn't an interior lineman (guards, and center)I always thought "interior" meant center, guard or tackle, but not end (on offense). However, some of the past winners (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outland_Trophy) were DE's, so who knows.
