View Full Version : Single Dopers: What Are You Giving YOURSELF For Christmas?

For me, I am toying with "Abba: The Complete Studio Recordings", a 9 cd set digitally re-mastered with a price tag of $108.00.
Anyone have it already and is it a good investment?
And for my birthday, six days later, I am giving myself an Ovation Tangent Mob57 guitar. Blue of course. All my guitars are blue, and I very badly want a Höfner (Paul McCartney) violin bass in blue. I found one once (on the net) but now it's my "Elusive Butterfly".
So "Solitary Man/Woman": What's Santa bringing you?
I hope it's something nice and which will give you lots of pleasure.

I'd like to get the three-volume hardbound edition of Calvin and Hobbes. Or a new camera. :)
I'll probably end up with a math book.

So far Christmas shopping I have bought 5 books, 2 CDs and 2 DVDs. The DVDs and one of the books are for other people. Until yesterday afternoon I had only bought the 4 books and 2 CDs for myself.

I was thinking about this today as I strolled through Sam's Club. I don't have a DVD player, and was thinking that might be the perfect prezzie for me. I have loads of tapes, though, that I hate to not be able to play. But NO ONE carries tapes anymore -- all the new movies are on DVD. Decisions, decisions.
I bought myself a new pair of earrings from a local jewelry for 6 bux a couple of weeks ago . . . kind of a pre-holiday present.

The budget is this year: a new engine for my Toyota 4Runner. Otherwise, it's just a nice big flower pot. Not very exciting, but winter just around the corner, and I don't want have to walk around in the cold and rain.

I got myself an entertainment center. Before that my tv, tivo and cable box were all crowded together on the top of an ancient farmstyle kitchen table.
With the DVDs and stuff in baskets underneath. Well that's my luxury gift to myself for the next 2 years!

Once you go DVD, you'll never go back. I bought a DVD recorder for my dad, and he's taken to re-recording the thousands of movies he has on tape. I'll be he hasn't played but 5 tapes in the three years or so since we gave the recorder to him.

It hadn't occurred to me that I might buy *myself* a present because I'm single. It hadn't occurred to me that I needed an occasion to justify buying presents for myself. As I've said before, I am my own sugarmomma, and I do treat myself well. ;)
Unfortunately, this year, my sugarmomma is going for the practical for Christmas. Likely a new fridge, as the old one has been making noises like it's lined up waiting for the start gun at a race track.

And for my birthday, six days later...
Quasi
Happy birthday from a fellow single New Year's Eve baby!
I get a lot of presents from my family, so I don't really see Christmas as a particular time to "treat myself right" as it were. When I want something, I buy it.
Of course, since I am going out today to buy presents for my niece/nephews, I might end up buying stuff for myself.

A Christmas tree. That’s what I got me.
I’m not single and have a wonderful marriage, my Wife really likes a Christmas tree, more than me usually. We have tones of ornaments to put on it.
But sometimes we are a bit to busy trying to hold my family together (Mom, Dad and now asshole brother) that we don’t get a tree for ourselves.
It’s been a hard year. My brother has turned from a wonderful guy and best friend to a person that has disowned and abandoned our dear caring mother. ‘Cause he fucked up, and my Mother had an opinion about. Mothers do that.
I needed a tree this year. My Wife and I decorated it last night.

Well, I gave myself a couple early presents (bear in mind I saw these last year and didn't indulge so it was a lengthy period of anticipation) :
Hymn (http://members.shaw.ca/davidladmore/hymn_five_printmaking_page.html)
Waterfall (http://members.shaw.ca/portfolio_one/waterfallthree_watercolour_page.html)
Oh and a couple pieces of porcelain by artists I like. And then I got a crockpot on sale. That'll pretty much be it because I want to redo my bathroom and kitchen this year.
For my birthday, I'll probably go to Snowball (http://www.snowballclassic.com/content.php?SectionID=1)

We'll let you non-singles in...for a small price:
My Christmas list:
Laptop to replace the 8-year old desktop
iPod/mp3 player
New cell phone (possibly a smartphone as the PDA is starting to go too)
New TV (old TV will be 16 in February)
New camera (I want that corrects for shakiness...)
I'm getting myself the phone. Y'all are welcome to help me out with any of the above. :D
Cool poster, rigs. (There are several other presents that I covet as well.)

I treat myself very well during the year, but the kids wanted something to wrap for me. So I picked them out a nice digital probe thermometer, with the understanding that if I need to cook something big before Christmas, I can use it. They do have it stashed in the spot where the tree is going tomorrow at least.
Santa brought me a fancy camera in June and half of an expensive taxidermy job last month. Thank you, Santa!

I don't have a DVD player, and was thinking that might be the perfect prezzie for me. I have loads of tapes, though, that I hate to not be able to play.Well, you know, buying a DVD doesn't mean throwing out your VCR. It's not like the DVD will wait until you're asleep and then stab your VCR to death.
As for me, I just spent a very expensive week in Paris, so I guess that is my present to myself. I'm certainly not going to buy myself anything else until this Christmas shinoola is over.
