Alrighty, I know I'm new and nobody knows me and bla bla bla.. but I'm going out on a limb here and starting my first thread (Yay me!).

I love soap. Like, absolutely LOVE soap. I use a soap from a company based out of England called "Lush" (www.lushcanada.com). Hand made, natural ingredients (such as apple juice, etc.)... well, I guess all I'm wondering is what kind of soap everybody else uses. Hey, it could be interesting... you never know....... or it could just suck. =)

Either way, I'll take responsibility.

So? Got Soap?

Soap? I hate it. It's disgusting. Gets all lathery and slippery and its supposed to go all over your body like that.

::shudder::

Personally, I just hose down in the backyard once a week to knock the big splotches of dirt off me.

Don't even get me started on shampoo. That makes me feel nausueated.

Tone. It's lathery, nondrying and cheap, and I am told (though I have no sense of smell meself) that it smells nice :)

I like Lever.

When I was a kid, I said "Shit!" once and my mother stuck a bar of Ivory in my mouth. Does that count too?

Irish Spring Sport is the bomb. you get clean and you smell good... what more can a guy want in a soap?

on the girly front, body shop (body works? i don't know the difference) has a soap called Satsuma that drives me totally nuts. i used to go into the bathroom just to smell it in the air after one of my housemates who used Satsuma got out of the shower. they finally bought me a couple bars but i can't bring myself to open them. i just keep em in strategic locations around my place for when i need a sniff to brighten my day.

Ivory tastes good to me. i don't know why it does, but whenever i happen to be showering with it (it's my backup for when i'm in a hick town that doesn't have a store that carries Irish Spring Sport), i always get a little in my mouth "on accident."

I love body shop's liquid soaps, especially oceanus. The regular stuff just dries my skin out.

Our water here is heavily laden with minerals, so I like Tone. It doesn't seem to dry me out quite as badly, although I have to get it rinsed off pretty quickly, or it feels like it's left a film on my skin.

I'm a Dove girl. It's the only one that doesn't dry me out (thank you Accutane).

And personally, I prefer soap that doesn't make me vomit.

Ever since it was recommended for the antibacterial properties of Triclosan for cleaning new body piercings, I have used, and absolutely LOVED the smell of Liquid Dial. I buy the big gallon bottle at Costco and refill all the small dispensers in our home.

I adore dove, it's just so soft and mousturizing, I dunno why I love it, I just do. Though I can't account for taste.

I use Jergens aloe this week. Not only was it on sale but it leaves my skin oh so silky smooth.

I use Kama Sutra's Clove Body wash.

I, too, love soap. I'm planning on attempting to make my own.

I like Lush too, except I can't smell anything else for an hour after going in there. Dove wins on the creamy moisturising factor and means I can still smell.

Oh and welcome to the board.

I'm another fan of Dove. The only trouble with it is that it goes mushy too easily.

I love their Cedar Soap from Scotland. It's a very soft scent. On my last visit to the city, they told me they weren't going to carry it anymore so I bought the last eight bars they had.
Once that's gone, I guess I'll go back to Calgon's, In The Rain Body Gel.

I buy an obscure brand from the Paper Street Soap Company.

There seems to be a very disturbing trend here with people ingesting their favorite bath bars.

Please, folks, try to keep one thing in mind:

If you eat too much soap, you will start to blow bubbles out your ass.

Aren't you glad, you use Dial.

Whammo

Dial, gold bar. I keep my toothbrush in the shower and use dial to brush my teeth with when I forget to load it up with toothpaste before stepping in. Makes me gag, but it works alright. I'm tough, I can take it.

All you Dove people are sick sick creatures. My roommate uses Dove sometimes and when we run out of Dial I'll use her special Dove. The SHIT DOESN'T RINSE OFF!! IT WON'T RINSE OFF! I feel all slippery like i'm still covered in soap when I'm drying off. YUCK!

Like White Lightning and spooje, I'm a fan of Irish Spring. It smells like soap should smell. And (I can't believe I'm going to admit this) I even enjoy their cheesy commercials...

As for soap-like products, I'm a devotee of Victoria's Secret Amber Romance shower gel. According to the label, it's "alluring," and if there's one thing I need more of in my life, it's allure.

White Lightning

Whammo, are you ever right. Dove is like a super-slick-body-coating-bar, not a soap. it's icky.

"Juniper Breeze" from Bath and Body Works is probably my favorite.

I use Oil of Olay body wash. It smells nice and doesn't leave that soapy film that makes you feel yucky after you shower. I haven't had a problem with dry skin since I started using it. Hubby uses Lever... and in a pinch it isn't too bad either.

I use... um... this stuff that comes in this white bar, and my mom buys it.

If left to my own devices I'd buy the cheapest crap I could find.

I like Bath & Body Works body wash gel shower cleany stuff. I use it on a puffpuff sponger thing. It smells good. Lots of different good smellification.

I use Doctor Bronner's liquid soap. The stuff is all natural. The peppermint oil in the peppermint soap burns like hell if you leave it on the skin too long. The almond soap makes your mouth water. The soap is great, but the label is pretty creepy to read; it's full of small print of weird socio/religious/political messages. I recall SD answering a question about Dr. Bronner and his soap. It's worth a look.

This is the story of two sisters, Jessica Tate and Mary Campbell. These are the Tates, and these are the Campbells, and this is...

...not the "Farewell Richard Mulligan" thread. Oops!

Kirk's, definitely Kirk's. Runnerup is the sandlewood body wash from Crabtree and Evelyn.

White Lightning, you are now temporarily classified as "freak" in the SDMB Log for eating soap and liking it. Please confirm your status by admitting you cut up your Irish Spring like the guy in the ads.

I found this obscure brand called "Tough Guy" soap... it's got this yummy sandalwood scent. It's made for guys, but this girly-girl loves how it smells. Plus, it doesn't clash with my cologne.

I use Dial soap ("mountain fresh" or something like that). I us it for three reasons: 1) It smell okay. 2) It's antibacterial (I know using antibacterial products should be avoided, but I've decided to be a hypocrite about this). 3) It actually has the directions: "Use like regular soap" on the package; brings a smile to my face every time I see it.

I like Ivory (it just reminds me of all the times as a kid we went to the Sierras, the campground bathrooms used Ivory soap.)

I also love Crabtree and Evelyn soaps. Also, I usually special order soaps from a little soap shop up in Ferndale CA. They have some great, unique scents I cannot find anywhere else. My favorie is "Redwood Moss".

Goodness, I've heard about them. Don't eat the soap. Trust me. :)

Healing Garden's Lavendar body gel. I am a lavendar scented girl, instead of purfume, I use the corresponding Lavendar lotion.

I use Freeman's Cosmetics soap (and everything else). I like them cause they do the job, they are not tested on animals, and they smell like things you can recognize, like Raspberry Kiwi, Orange Grapefruit, Rosemary Mint.

I use Dove soap (per my dermatologist) but I LOVE Paul Mitchells Tea Tree soap. Pick up a bar and you'll see. It leaves you minty fresh and all tingly. Very nice!

I like this lavendar soap I got in France called Monsavon. I can't find it in the States, but it shouldn't be too hard to get ahold of, since it's made by Proctor & Gamble of Belgium

OrcaChow—Dr. Bronner's peppermint body wash is great! I ran out a while ago, but I do love the stuff. An old girlfriend gave it to me as a birthday present. It makes my body all tingly, and I feel the tingling for hours afterward. If I weren't so nearsighted, I'd read the bottle in the shower.

I like Zest, myself. Those commercials are correct about the film that other soaps leave on your body. I like the post-Zest feeling. Regular soap covers me with crud that I can do without. Zest isn't even technically soap. It's a deodorant bar.

Those of you who suffer frequent fungal infections may know that soaps are inherently alkaline in their pH levels (they contain lye, right?). Since fungus thrives in alkaline environments, I was wondering if anybody knew whether or not any of these great soaps listed above are closer to neutral or maybe even a little on the acid side. ("New mandarin orange dial- now with 10% more real orange juice!")

It may help with the battle of the itchies.

I use Dr. Bronner's. The soap is all-natural, bio-degradable, and it isn't laden with perfumes.

Count me in for Lever. Unfortunately, the store I usually shop at has decided to discontinue the regular stuff, and now carries only the orange-box bug-phobic-lemmings-sliding-straight-into-hell "antibacterial" brand. Not sure what I'm going to do about that one.

Oh, and I'm with the folks who hate Dove because it leaves my skin feeling all skunky. If I don't squeak, I'm not done getting clean.

Ivory; the 99.44% pure gimmick gets me every time.

And I hate soap; I'm forever dropping it in the tub while showering, making unsightly dents in the bar. Said dent doesn't dissapear for a few days until the soap bar dissolves, annoying me to no end and ruining an otherwise pleasant showering experience

Oil of Olay BEAUTY BAR in PINK. It smells soft, subtle and feminine. Except for Safeguard on "delicate areas"

For my face-I like Clearisil Daily Face Wash-I've been using it for a for a few weeks now, and I DEFINITELY notice I haven't had as many zits. In fact, I don't have ANY right now...woohoo!

I remember getting my mouth washed out with Zest when I was little...

I prefer Pears over all other bar soaps and use Dial liquid at home and at work. I love the smell.

When I was a wee Feynnling I used to stay with my grandparents. I would hop onto Grandma Feynn's lap and she always smelled wonderful. After I grew out of jumping on her lap I noticed that her bathroom had that wonderful smell too and for the life of me I couldn't figure out what it was. She had perfume on the counter but these all made me gag. One day I was on my quest to find out what made this smell and discovered a small container on the shelf filled with soap chips that my grandmother had saved. This was what made my granny smell so good. Turns out that it was Dove soap.

She passed away 3 years ago but the smell Dove evokes such warm memories in me I can not help but miss her even more than I already do.

I typically use ordinary buy-'em-at-the-supermarket soaps, but I just started using a French soap from L'Occitane. It's fantastic! Great texture and lather, and the scent is heavenly. This one is honey, but they make lots of scents, including some more masculine, woodsy ones. Fortunatly, L'Occitane has shops in NY, 'cause I have a feeling there's no going back...
